Asmongold Now Attacked For "Harassing" Blizzard Devs

After Asmongold said that the World of Warcraft community is trash and also fired back to some Blizzard developers insulting him (even before the Blizzard lawsuit was made public); there's been quite a lot of people that have tried to attack him on Twitter and paint him as one of the main cause of the existing toxicity in the WoW's community. Is this the reason so many people are quitting WoW? Asmongold discusses and responds to these attacks...

The word "toxic" is really getting thrown around a lot these days. I never thought Asmon as someone that is toxic. If he's being an asshole most people that understand social cues knows he's playing it up for the stream As far as the critique he's giving Blizzard it seems they are the ones throwing "toxic" around a whole lot. I don't know, I just don't see a world where Blizzard are right in this situation.

Its interesting becouse i have a feeling asmon gets looked at differently just becouse of his excessive use of swear-words and his way of not beating around the bush. True, heartfelt honesty said with passion is rare these days. And when you mix in " fuck" "dick" and so on with that passion, suddenly people dont take you serious anymore.... This lady telling her followers on an open platform that asmon can to fuck himself. Then it tells me not only has asmon struck a nerve, but she is also frustrated about it. I belive its becouse asmon is right with his criticism and she can't defend that. So she turns personal hate. Low low low standards and she should be punished by blizzard for hurting their players like this while employed by blizz (which is also directly hurting the brand) Sure tells me alot about her in the end...

its players as well and thats a fact. I've seen WoW players attacking FF14 fans countless times in comment sections. They had and still have no reason for that however the FF14 fans took kill them with kindness to a new level and have done nothing but welcome new players to the game both to new and old MMO fans. I played WoW for two months but I hardly saw anyone and noone was friendly however then compared to just this week started FF14 and on my first day everywhere has players, everyone is helpful and seen multiple messages in chat welcoming new players offering help and advice to anyone. The contrasts between a healthy and toxic fan base there cant be ignored because while sure both have toxic areas one of them at very least has shown players to be friendly.

It's evident it's a pathological *need* to deflect blame on others at this point. Blizzard employees have no intention of being held accountable for anything. The Diablo 3 devs going "Fuck that loser" to a Diablo 2 dev situation is 9 years old at this point, and apparently nothing's changed, and likely got even worse. It's pointless to engage with these sorts of people. The entire company must be purged. Glad you could make it, Uther.

The WoW community IS awful, I remember opening 5 tickets with WoW GMs about a broken quest and they kept closing it saying it was fixed when it wasn’t (was old TBC daily content and they clearly didn’t care). Then I posted this frustration on the WoW Reddit (no insults, just “Why isn’t this stuff being taken seriously?” with the description of my experience) and was flooded with trolls telling me to quit the game then if I don’t like it, get out, etc. Just absolute trash mentality.

Yup. Only takes spending a few minutes on WoW forums to understand just how toxic the community is. A LOT of it coming from Asmons community though on those forums, as they love to brag about it and quote Asmon all the time. What i find interesting, that a lot of people arent really talking about, is how many people have been transferring off of the Aether datacenter in FFXIV because of Asmon and the people who followed him. Yesterday we had quite a few show up in the novice network that all said the same thing...they left because they were getting annoyed being over there with Asmon's community. Even today on Asmon's stream, his community was trying to mass report people to try and get them banned. Its just a horrible trash community, and Asmon does indeed play a part in it...especially his mods who were hyping it up and supporting the toxicness in his chat today.

I’m actually really glad Asmon speaks his mind and isn’t afraid to say how he feels and tell how it is. It’s far better than the people who pretend nothing is wrong and won’t address the serious problems at hand. (looking at you Activision/Blizzard) the fact that they actually react to him so easily show that he’s right and that they do seem to care about what he says. I hope he never changes and keeps playing games and having fun, that’s what gamers do after all.

The next day he was at school with his parents and the police trying to press charges.Thankfully the kid who threw the punch only got three days of out of school suspension.

I think that whenever anyone (streamer or not) mentions someone that said or did something negative, some people have a tendency to go to that person and give them a piece of their mind. To the receiving person it will feel like they are being dogpiled, ergo the use of the word "harassment". That is maybe something Asmon *can* still do: make it VERY clear that whenever he adresses a person, viewers are to LEAVE THAT PERSON ALONE. Don't @ them, don't talk to them, don't even think about theme. Asmon can adress it in a video and that's that. But I don't think Asmon is toxic because some of his viewers are assholes and try to argue with a person that has no bearing on *their* life. And yes, I have been a part of such raids. Something I thought about and realized after the fact. That's why I talk about it: to make more people aware that even though such behavior is prevalent, it shouldn't be accepted.

They have to ruin his reputation, because he is right, and the only way those devs could stop people from listening to him, is to persuade them that he is a bad person. Asmong tells the truth that they don't want people to hear. Blizzad devs want you to believe that you are "part of the problem" if you demand to get what you paid for. Blizzard employees touched others is a way they should not, and when you ask "where is the patch for the game that pay monthly fee", they say that they have more important stuff and you are somehow responsible for it.

That is the only way it's tolerable because anywhere you go most people will be assholes. General chat in cities are full of people ranting about their insane takes, you go to a BG and everyone is malding over the smallest mistakes, I try to do some basic heroic dungeons and the group just runs around to 60 different directions because everyone wants to do whatever they want to do. Now it's not all bad, I did some LFR content for the story and most of them were pretty alright. But I noticed myself becoming very toxic as well in BGs or some raids and I hated it. It took me a while to get used to FFXIV community's acceptance of mistakes and to not be sketched out to talk to other players and befriend them/attempt to do some harder content. I only started watching Asmon when he started playing FFXIV cause I'm not a WoW player, I'm an FFXIV player. But from what I've seen is that Asmon is fairly positive whenever he is doing group content. In raids he is constantly trying to pep up his team, when someone messes up he downplays it while pushing for everyone to do just that little bit better. I have not actually seen much I would consider "toxic", and that toxicity is largely him doing chocobo races, where he doesn't even have team mates and I write it off as banal competitive chatter. In fact, compared to a lot of what I hear in competitive games, this doesn't even count as toxic it is so minor. With all that said, glad you are enjoying your time in FFXIV, Asmon, and hope you continue to do so. Games should be for fun, first and foremost, and I sincerely hope everyone is having fun playing their chosen games.

Doesn't mean he is always right tho, but always open for discussion. I, for one, don't agree on WoW community being trash just because I know lots of very great people and guilds who are very friendly and supportive. It's almost like the devs have forgotten about the OG realm forums and elitistjerks. These where the primordial ooze for the current WoW culture. You had to be the best to loot the best. Loot was a gamble of time vs rng. Your reputation and progression was based off of playing through and with the top players, which were by nature noxic. When you base a game off swag and make the swag tough (in the terms of time allocation not difficulty) to obtain high end players stopped putting up slackers. We then passed this behavior down through the generation of new players. The good players stayed and the bad ones either went to pet battles or unsubbed. Asmon is a product of the games environment. He is popular because he is like most of the player base not because he invented it. Zach is smart enough to know this is what gets views. Go on with you my guy.

To be fair. Asmongold is an influencer which means he influences people. There is responsibility involved in being an influencer. An influencer is a person who inspires and/or guides the actions of others. I wouldn't call Asmon toxic or an harasser though since a lot of his criticism is constructive, honest, satire and comedic. I do believe his criticism is valid and I do believe a lot of people watch him because they sympathize with him regarding his frustration. Blizzard's using the wartime strategy of turning internal conflict on an outside force. And the easiest target for both the devs and the shareholders to turn their sights on is the most influential WoW streamer that recently made the switch. The fact the company hasn't punished anyone for attacking Asmon despite how much of an impact he can have on their already diminishing stocks is because the company's silently (or maybe even intentionally) encouraging it. If it goes in their favour, they let it keep going. If it turns out bad due to more of the community turns on them, then they'll backpedal and punish the devs they're using as scapegoats. Also doesn't help that Blizzard is plagued with the kinds of people you'd expect to see on twitter calling everyone toxic for ever minor thing, pretending they have some moral highground for cancelling people, and has an all-around SJW culture (minus the recent harassment issue). Makes it very easy to start slinging buzzwords at people and pretend you actually have a point.
@gusty9053
@gusty9053 3 жыл бұрын
I would say "the recent issue" is perfectly typical of the SJW mindset. It's always all right when they do something despicable because it's never their fault, it's always someone else and somehow they always find a justification for acting like assholes towards normal people (like orange man bad, or white man bad or something else equally stupid). Plus the rule of thumb seems to be: the higher the volume at which they screech "look at me virtue signaling!!! over here" the more skeletons they have to hide.

WoW is the most anti-social online game I can think of, it's designed to turn people into stressed out husks. There's no longer any social elements, no wind down, nothing to do to relax and chill with friends. Its an MMO where the game world is dead. Its been turned into a seasonal Diablo-like on an agressive montization system. People are fucking miserable because the game makes them like that. I know you want WoW to eventually bounce back, but unless you're willing to slash your standards you know that won't happen. This petty arguing and gaslighting will be the future of the game in lieu of any talented design. Also, I'll just say it: you can tell just how insanely frustrated they are that they can't call you anything harsher and have to resort to stammering the same few quasi-insults over and over.

Asmongold might be rough around the edges true, and he does have a lot of influence. Also true. He'll even call himself an asshole. Anyone who's watched his stream can see that he isn't perfect and tries to separate himself from that toxic culture. This is coming from someone who didn't like him at first glance. Then I actually watched a stream and thought to myself he has a lot of insight. Watched a few more and just didn't see the same toxicity from him that I had found in the community when playing the game. He's simply a scapegoat for people who can't take accountability for their own actions. Every person is responsible for their own choices, and if somebody acts like a scumbag because everyone else is doing it. Guess what, they're not acting. All it takes is the decision to be one and be just another drop of water in the toxic ocean. It's always a choice and it all of it adds up. It's that simple. Not everyone needs some grandiose villain backstory to explain why they decided to be a sadistic prick one day. Even fewer have a good reason. Humans are easily swayed by things they can do collectively, but it doesn't excuse them of responsibility. And anyone going around blaming others for their own actions, well what does that say about them? Are they easily manipulated sheep incapable of thinking for themselves? Blizzard has proven time and time again they're collectively clueless about their own community's wants, needs, or motivations. It's a broken company full of unprofessional hypocrites who are going to direct as much negativity toward someone like Asmongold as they can. Gullible people will jump on that bandwagon immediately. Never realizing a simple truth. Asmongold of all people, while being hated on, blamed, and his named dragged through the mud by Blizzard, is still trying to get people to support the honest, hard working, decent people who may still work there. Would even one toxic person ever do that? To stay in the fire when you can easily just move on? Only someone who truly loves the game would put up with that much crap even when he's clearly having more fun playing other things. Asmongold clearly has more faith in the company and community than I do, but it doesn't matter. He'll win in either scenario. Blizzard will either turn themselves around and make Wow good again, or they'll be the final straw to break the camels back. Either way Eorzea will still be there.

I'll admit, I was one to do that too when he mentioned trying FF14 I was like "oh fuck...here we go..." but then I sat down and watched him stream it (with chat turned off) and it was the FF14 community that disappointed me so much more than Asmon did. Those assholes on their whale mounts, people constantly spamming effects because they didn't want 'him and his community' in their game. I began watching more of him and Rich and...yeah...turns out Asmon isn't the person he use to be years ago. We have lots of holier than thou people running around these days acting as if they're above certain others because of their beliefs and opinions when in reality a lot of them are cowards who would step on a homeless man's neck to reach the next rung in their social hierarchy

Honestly i really see eye to eye with this. The fact Blizzard responded in such a manner to you is unprofessional and ultimately hurts them even further as a company... And taking the personal attack route is just the easiest route in an argument whether the person is right or wrong... its a lame tactic.

I love the irony in these tweets, twitter is literally an echochamber for some people to share in the collective fart sniffing. I'm with Asmon on this.

Hey, what all of this means is that Blizzard and their defenders officially acknowledge that Asmongold has a bigger following than Blizzard. For Asmon and his community to make WoW's community toxic, it means they are the majority of the community.
