It all depends on your definition of "Casual", since there are 1.5 billion variations, the answer will be both yes and no. IMO, a casual is someone who schedules their game time around what's going on IRL. Versus someone who is hardcore who schedules RL around their game time. Example: Hardcore: I can't meet you guys for dinner tonight because I'm raiding. Casual: I can't raid with you guys tonight because I'm meeting some friends for dinner. Has nothing to do with skill level or hours played. Just dedication to the game. Classic is definitely casual friendly as you can easily take months at your own leisure to level and it shouldn't be difficult to find a guild that needs bench players who can log in to raid when they are missing people, meaning the casual can join the raid, show up when they have time, and join the raid if the guild is short that night.
@giorgosvasoglou5 жыл бұрын
I agree with you almost 100%! The variables are sooo many and people have different perspectives on the game, so a comparison is almost pointless! That being said, as I mentioned in my comment too, nobody rushed me to do ANYTHING in Bfa and I was never left behind. Wasnt the optimum player at any BFA's life time, but wasnt far behind! And the point of a big guild, communities for lvling,rbgs etc etc and the plethora of content serves exactly the same purpose you mention with your example of the gaming experience a "Casual player" has! Think about it....Blizzard made it so every1 get upgrade gear and Azerite from all contents of the game! Have a nice day :)

While lvling, the frostbold rotation isn't that boring to be honest. You still have to frostnova, blink and fight for yourself. Did you ever play a hunter in classic? You're literally just standing around doing auto-shots, while your pet does tank the mobs. It's only interesting if you fight a few mobs at the same time. Even then, you dont feel like you're doing much, compared to a mage.
@azuraquinlilax12453 жыл бұрын
@@fritzschnitzmueller3768true but it raids you hardly used frost nova unless you provide your tank with some space. Which if both the healers and the tank in question is doing their job right , you won't have to do even that honestly. Warlocks have it worse with shadow bolt. And a banish every now and then . still love classic though. The social experience compaired to retail is night and day.

The feeling of progressing on a character is greater in classic and up to pre ICC WotLK. When you clear the raid you are done for the week. My best memories are from TBC and WotLK finding a group in Shattrath or Dalaran and the traveling to the dungeon and then completing a normal/heroic dungeon. Having heroic dungeons isn't an issue. But having different raid difficulties which are not worth doing since you get better gear from mythic dungeons, which you can run as many times you want is. Endless progression is what makes me feel I'm playing in an unoptimal way when I'm not playing on my main. Compare that to classic where you can "finish" gearing outside of raiding.

Something I really appreciate about classic is once you got an item for pre raid bis or bis, you got it. Bar fucking none. If Dal'Rend's Tribal Guardian drops from Rend Blackhand, you know you need it and there's only the rng of you getting it vs the other fury warrior/combat rogue vs the huntard. Now though, you'd need Dal'Rend's mythic Titanforged Corrupted Tribal Guardian of the Quickblade with a very specific Corruption enchant. Way too much RNG in retail. Same with professions as well - you got the mats for Devilsaur Gauntlets and you craft it or pay someone to do so, boom you're done pre raid bis in classic for gloves slot. In retail you'd need Devilsaur Gauntlets of the Feverflare that you then need to get to 2/4 stages upgraded. TL:DR, retail's system decreases the meaning of getting gear in general - in retail it's just increasing numbers on your gear so you can increase numbers on your damage. In classic gear has far more meaning imho. And that's just the gear issue, let alone class identity and the journey to max level being a slog rather than an experience in of itself.

I can not believe how on point they both are about the urgency. The time gating makes it 100x worse. So you have to quickly go and do a thing, but then once you finally decide to do it you immediately get dis-incentivized by having to wait another day or another week for it to give you the same rewards. They're conditioning a religious sort of "Do this for this long and then stop for this long" pattern that ultimately makes me decide to detach myself from the game. I know I don't want to play the game the way it tells me to play it, so obviously I shouldn't be getting invested in it beyond what little I can find to have some immediate fun (which let me tell you, isn't much).

@Mercb3ast the mechanics were far more detailed than WoW was at it's launch. There was a great reason people were calling it Everquest for retards when it came out. Now compare Everquest to something like BFA and your 100% correct. I think the reason the world was so immersive was it's difficulty, harsh penalties and your dependence on other players. You needed other people to do anything in the game. While necros and bards could solo for exp they couldn't kill level appropriate quest mobs or craft all their spells/gear.

I'm ok with most of this but I really hate when people get on the whole "it allows you to avoid the whole Guild/Social process ...." at around 19:00 ... Most of you in guild that HAVE FRIENDS can't tell you what it's like being a "casual" and joining a guild (OMG you can't be guildless nowadays without getting invite spam). The rude, "you're not ilvl 9000, sorry no spot" ... "didn't finish your daily"/fill in the blank like he said earlier - the game is more an OBLIGATION when you're "in guild" .. Guilds were very different IMO in Vanilla, now you have 20yr olds GM'ing a guild who run it like they are CEO's, meanwhile they live in their moms basement and blaze up mid-raid with the mysterious "BRB" .. The game is different but so are the players, I hate having to depend on a bunch of elitist twats ... no you're not ALL that way, but there are enough of you out there to make the experience unwelcome.

I recently started playing Classic to blow off steam and just have some laid-back fun and I really love it. I pretty much only PvP in retail so it goes without saying I get burned out pretty quick and like to take a break without quitting the game, and Classic has been wonderful for that. It's nice to go play a version of the game where you just do what your class/spec does, where things make sense, and you don't have to min/max so much just to participate. I think the reason I get so burned out sometimes is exactly what Asmon said: "there's like 8 fucking counters for everything." Playing SS, 2's or even 3's feels like 4D Chess because the most popular classes can literally do everything. If you aren't playing meta and seriously geared, you can't even hurt most people. Healers can stunlock, DPS can heal absurdly well, everyone's got like 4-8 DR/Evasion/"Oh shit" buttons, and the community is dominated by people who reroll every time patch notes drop which makes it unbearably hard to enjoy the game because in this system you can't achieve much unless you play what's meta or just happen to be a top 10% gigachad. Meanwhile in Classic you can play what you enjoy without having to sacrifice progress as long as you know what you're doing. Of course there are still counters, but not every single player will have or be one, unlike retail where everyone has 3-5 different counters for everything. The game is just absurdly over-inflated with homogenization to the point of bursting. I still like enjoy retail but I definitely get why a lot of people don't. Hard for your character to feel special when everyone's character is special and everyone gets participation trophies because Blizzard doesn't want anyone feeling left out for fear of losses. In Classic, you get out what you put in. If you don't put in the work, you don't get a trophy for just showing up. Things feel weighted and meaningful, and the slow pace of course helps a lot. I have max level characters who took less time to level cap and gear than it took me to get to 20 in Classic, and it was all the more fun for the journey. TL;DR I like both but homogenization, instant gratification and easy-mode raiding and dungeons has destroyed what made WoW so much fun and so social, and is why there will always be a place for Classic.
@leonirspaz540 Жыл бұрын
there is but a single reason why any other expansion from cata and lower is more casual friendly than anything after it. Classes became too complicated to play compared to before. Compare what a hunter has to do in classic to dps. Shoot aimed shot. refresh serpent sting. done. Now what does a hunter have to do in retail? 4-6 rotational abilities + Frenzy+ 4 cds to keep track of + 7 mechanics of the boss etc etc.

I’d say casual also depends on time frames. When I’m working I’m doing 12 hour days on a ship, so I’ve got 2-3 hours of time that’s not dedicated to sleeping or getting ready for work/showering etc. if I spend one of those hours a day on video games, that’s quite a lot. Course, when I’m home it’s a lot more than just the 1 hour

HeyItsPanos Asmon is literally a casual. Everything gets given to him on a platter by his community. A “casual” probably puts in more effort to achieve stuff then asmon who rushes to endgame, hosts raids and says “can I have that” on every drop

@@pazu2934 Asmon is not a casual. he is LITERALLY working. Him playing, is him working. That's not casual.. It's like comparing me, who i draw paintings for fun, with a guy who does paintings worth of thousand of euros for a living. Even if i spend 15 days for 1 painting, and the other guy spends 7 days for his, i am still the casual one. The difference is that he does it more efficiently. Same thing with asmon. he does this for a living, and has found a way to go around the hardcore grind and the Roll-rng for loot. So he is doing it more efficient...Do it urself also if u can. But u can't.. cus u're not as popular as asmon. Same idea why i can't get my paintings to sell for thousands of euros...

I'm a casual wow player. Picked it up when the quarantine started. I play ~2-5 hours and that seems casual. Anything less would give me no progress or fun out of it. But I'm not working now. Before the quarantine I could probably play 4 hours a week, which is why I didn't get it

I don't think classic is casual friendly, this is because I have played until level 22 doing quests and I have seen a total of 4 players and all of them where level 60 and AFK. this sucks as you need to quest with other people for escort quests and other more difficult zones and doing it on my own is not fun or easy. I am on a server which is consistently high population and and I still don't see new players. It ruins the casual experience when there are no players and when you need more people do finish certain quest lines.

I don't think "casual" status is necessarily time dependent. When I was unemployed I played for entire days but would still consider myself a casual gamer for the most part. Having time to play a game doesn't make you more hardcore. Also classic is definitely more casual friendly imo because, like MadSeason points out, there's way less pressure to play it. The game isn't nagging you all the time to do dailies and shit, classic just lets you go at your own pace.

WoW classic is easier than current wow, but the hardest thing imo in classic is resource management & gearing different characters at the same time.

@drexiusofthefallen5 жыл бұрын
Im not going to argue that classic is more complex than retail, but I think people like mad season are under-appreciating the amount of effort it takes to prepare for AQ and Naxx. Look at the anount of mats it takes to get your NR set for Huhu in AQ and the mats required to make your tier 3 set. This requires guilds pooling resources, leveling multiple alts to level 35 for tradeskill cooddowns, flasks, full raid consumes every week, etc...if you dont want to call it complex im fine with that, but I garuntee mamy, many guilds will dissolve in AQ and Naxx because they didnt take the necessary steps to prepare for the intense amount of gold and time it takes to have all of the necessary materials to complete these raids with consistency.

Is classic casual friendly? I play 10+ hours a day and have not gotten a single raid drop in a month of raiding. My casual friend plays less then two hours average daily and got 3 drops in MC on his very first time in there... Sounds pretty casual friendly to me.

That's why I quit WoW, because of the constant pressure of dailies and such. I've joined back for Classic and it's a way better pace. I can do as much or as little as I want. If I just wanna log on and fish for 30mins, that's fine, I'm not being pressured by the game to get things done.

I played Everquest... briefly. How brief? My one and only character couldn't even walk a hundred steps out of the initial spawn point without getting attacked and killed by something. And it was just far enough into the woods that I would be unable to find my previous corpse and get my stuff back before getting killed AGAIN. So can't kill anything. Can't retain any loot or equipment even if I managed to kill something because the next thing WOULD kill me anyway. Why even bother to continue playing?

There are some thing that retail just does better. For example character creations , animation, and design definitely way better, and the fact that classes arnt one button wonders in raids is a plus to. But the journey of leveling, is not there, the world feels very small and empty compared to classic , and socializing outside of a guild is honestly at a low. On my first day in classic , i had WAaay more social interaction and adventure with random people , than I ever has in retail in about 4 years. It was populated and felt alive. And was rather challenging . I know mythics and some heroic dungeons and raids are challenging, but the world outside of it should be challenging too, especially since you won't be queing right out the gate anyway. I also have to agree that gearing in classic and retail have entirely different feels as well. Retail hands out gear like hotcakes while classic makes you earn via months of grinding or crafting . or both. You really work for it and it feels more satisfying to get it....or lose it to a hunter lol. Retail does raids really well and dungeons too however . with mechanics and such. Its more complex than shoot anything that attacks you. I do feel they do that better than classic honestly. The only downside is that once you are in dungeon or raid. No one bothers to talk to you..or even make a plan of some kind. Everyone has to much of. A stick up their ass to give you the time of day. A simple hi would be nice. Retail also has more of A story line then classic. Which to me can be a good and a bad thing . good because every one loves a story, and its. Good chance to follow lore more easily . the cinematics and cut scene are absolute eye candy. We feel do involved with The characters now. The bad news is, we feel involved with the characters now. It feels odd and somewhat patronizing to interact with the main cast as champions. Since technically EVERYONE is a champion, and if everyone is the champion..then no one is. In my opinion it was better that we were the unsung heroes. The ones in the background that saved the day without recognition, forging out own tale of adventures and glory, taking on this challenge not because someone expects that from us, but because we WANT to . To be in the center if it all. When ever one else is I'm the center just feeels....disengenious. Honestly that's part of the reason I sort of disliked artifact weapons in legion. I mean we are given an all powerful weapon and everyone knows about...but so does everyone else. That's not a legendary weapon.. Its a doller store item that was on sale for buy one get two free. It would have been nice to create your own weapon. Like the name and the flavor text. Hell the stats and abilites Can even be the same.

i remember playing the witcher III right after playing dark souls cuz I had decided to download both games, and noticed something was wrong when i killed a cockatrice 15 levels above me and i forgot i was playing witcher and not dark souls: I was using the potions and rolling around and make rotations with the crossbow and at the end I actually won easily only with a little patience PS: WOW is a D&D session where the DM tells you're passed out and trying to rest or being randomly saved just so you can continue the campaign and have fun

I disagree about the raid difficulty part. If Asmon had 39 other hims he'd face roll through Molten Core and it wouldn't be fun at all. In Destiny a week or 2 after a new raid comes out it's a mindless farm because you've learned the mechanics and are properly leveled for it. I hate that they removed Heroic mode because raids are just too easy after your first clear. In Destiny 1 I beat Normal King's Fall like a month after getting the game and then it took three or four months after that to clear it on Heroic. Super satisfying and not having other difficulties is honestly a casual move because you don't want worse players feeling bad they can't beat the harder difficulties.

Rpg's from the late 80's and early 90's were all pretty easy, but it was all about the grind. You had to travel the whole collecting gear and weapons used to defeat bosses. MMORPG's when they came around in the late 90s were very similar except they were even more grindy. You really needed to dedicate time to the game. To be honest wow and everquest were of equal difficulty. Most of both games were doable by the casual player if they put the time in. Today mmorpgs are slowly morphing back into rpgs as people go solo as opposed to grouping. We have come full circle.

The grindness was a way to timegate content in line with the subscription monetization model. I remember the mid 00s game boy advance rpgs were also full of grinds but at least they were optional and yoy didnt have to pay monthly

Classic isn't "hard", but the game assumes it teaches you a lot more than it actually does. It's casual within the context of its contemporary rival MMOs from that era. Leveling in Classic is easy. Easy to everyone who has experience with MMOs and isn't a first timer at all. Dungeons are easy too. Easy if you've already done instances in other games. Classic is not easy to complete beginners. Maybe nobody will be stuck at a certain level forever, but they will progress many times slower and it won't be as fun.

My icons telling me what procs, bleeds and effects I have going on me is like 3 rows long. How the fuck is any one suppose to keep track of that when 5 icons are coming and going every 3 seconds ... wtf is the point in having a proc for haste but then I never know when it’s activated so I can’t make the best use of it and time certain plays with it. fix that shit, make it simple. I’d rather have 3 strong procs I can keep a track of rather than 8 weak ones that I just don’t even bother tracking

I don’t feel rewarded in current wow when it comes to gear. I remember in legion , I was in the top mythic guild in server competing with 3-4 others horde and alliance. I was one of the best geared warrior and when walking around , you knew I was beast. But now you got people just doing my things + or rated pvp to get gear and the gear is just as good or better than Mythic. There is no reward. The only reward now does not come from gear, it comes from skill when you get your cuttings edge. But that’s about it.

Mad season has a great initial point in regards to time obligation. Blizzard had developed their game into a trap of sorts. They keep you invested with timegated events such as dailies and and weeklies. By doing so they get get more money plain and simple. They keep their player base at such a high level due to this inconvenient fact. They rope you into the system by advertising “great adventures with your friends” just to have you completely and utterly invested into the game daily so you “don’t fall behind”. And god forbid if you fall behind, you have to spend the next few months just to catch up to current tier. This game is HARDCORE in the sense time investment. Blizzard is scamming us but we just can’t walk away from our world of Warcraft accounts. Rethink your life and the games you play
