The Barrens had cool wildlife. Especially for hunters. There was the white lion you could get from a quest(by failing it, cause you tamed the lion, instead of killing it) or the black lion that has an extremely high respawn timer so you had to camp the zone in days for a chance to tame him.

@@TheBrazilRules it was more difficult than hunters, but easier than most melee. You were squishy, and since you were facing higher level mobs, your 'frost' spells would likely miss, causing the mob to quickly reach you and kill you. You could handle it by blinking or kiting away, and maybe landing a polymorph, but it would depend on rng. You just had to be ready to reset if the rng wasn't in your favor in some of the key spells, like the first frost bolt or two

Either standing around in town collecting hundreds/thousands of gold, letting people just bring him all the mats he needed for legendaries or crafted purps, watching videos and shit while they essentially boosted him through dungeons, or being completely okay with him just master looting himself every piece of gear he wanted though the majority of fights he was either tabbed out or made really dumb calls during a fight. Blizzard didn't specifically choose Alliance first, but rather Eastern Kingdoms first. All evidence in the game files points to this (mobs that appear in EK had lower IDs than Kalimdor exclusive mobs, instance map IDs in EK are all lower, and so on). However because 3/4 Horde start in Kalimdor, Horde zones got screwed, but if you notice, the one Horde race is Eastern Kingdoms is much better than the zones of the one Alliance race in Kalimdor. Even just comparing something like end game zones. EPL was in good shape, while the game released with Silithus essentially unfinished.

Personally, I prefer the old system. Starting off as a weak scrub, only to end up as a god of war after countless trials and tribulations, it's an unmatched feeling. You feel like you earned your might, that you have actually grown. At the same time, the downtime, having to eat and drink after fights, and the long travel times, it all made the game feel that much more like a classical adventure, where you go out into the wilderness, and struggle to survive. It kind of reminded me of D&D the first time I played, which I loved. Playing as a Hunter, shooting your prey, cooking them into your next meal, and making your next gear upgrade out of the hide you skin off them, it was a genuine experience.

So my first character was horde, even though I didn't make it past level 20, I will never forget the barrens. The first time I came to cross roads there was an alliance raid going on and I instantly died. It was my first taste of pvp. I resurrected and jumped right back in the fray only to get one shot my a 60 mage. Us lowbies asked for help and in a few minutes some high levels showed up. It turned into a long hard battle. From that point on I was hooked (until cata). I ended up going alliance because it reminded me of lord of the rings and orcs were bad lol, but I spent so much time just chatting and leveling in the barrens its the reason why, even though I have a 50 hour a week job, housework, and kids, I made time to come back for classic and at least make it to 60. I came back one other time for wrath and got to 80. No more time for raiding, but I will come back one more time for the hardcore server. in retail when a tank says he 'pulled' most of the time he means he charged into the attack. In vanilla you really have to learn to pull a mob with a ranged weapon and fight in an area that you and your party controlled. this is why we old farts from vanilla regard vanilla to wotlk tanking as very different and much better than modern retail tanking. hopefully this kind of pulling and interrupts, damage mitigation, etc will reappear in retail because people have been playing classic. More players will be ready for mythic dungeons and high end raiding guilds because they learned their trade in classic.

I feel like the hate for the Barrens is weird. You pick up all the quests when u get there at like level 11 and basically every mob is the zone is killable for a quest. You gotta kill the raptors for their heads, zebra for the hoofs, centaurs for the bracelets, and more I don't remember the names of. The zone is large but its par for the course in vanilla questing in terms of what you actually do, even the distances you gotta run. Imagine being horde in the hinterlands and your fucking city is on the shore at the bottom of the cliffs.

I don’t think you can “plan” an area like the Barrens. Players made it “The Barrens” organically. Was it unbalanced in favor of another faction? Probably. Did it define a particular era in WoW history? Pretty much. Is it an enigmatic design decision that most likely could not have been pre-planned to achieve such a specific purpose? Absolutely. Hopefully the creators can celebrate their successes (ESPECIALLY the unintentional ones) and pave the way for new organic, unintentional awesomeness like The Barrens. Even though I died dozens of times to get that one semi-rare lion hunter pet while I was there, the tension was worth it and absolutely memorable.

Just playing Classic and Burning Crusade Classic, sort of just giving me a headache. I just hate when I'm leveling as a Warrior class that I have to deal with like 3 to 4 enemies at once, it's not the best feeling at all. And I'm mostly soloing myself. Looting for quest items is a pain in the ass in both Classic and Burning Crusade Classic. There should've been quality of life improvements in both classics, without some of the necessary add-on features. Like 1 the Map minimization, 2 Quest tracking, 3 during questing your guaranteed a quest item for each mob kill instead of going after every 3 to 4 kill each time. 4 not make it so dang punishing for solo leveling players. Like why should I have to be so heavy reliant on partying up with other players just to get through questing. The only time I would ever want party up is whenever I go do Dungeons and Raids. 5 I wish they would implemented the dungeon finder, I just don't want to use the chat to find players plus it takes to much time to literally find players in the same server.

Dude rips on Mulgor, but even as an alliance player, it was my favorite zone in the game, & is still one of my favorite zones. It reminds me of the most beautiful parts of where I grew up as a kid.

I choose tauren because I loved Mulgore compared to durotar and Eastern kingdoms. I love the zones aesthetics

Funny thing Orgrimmar, Durotar and the Barrens looked better in Warcraft 3 than WoW.

I wish those chests had green items... Haven't seen one drop from a chest yet.

I started playing wow in legion and quit at the start of bfa. The reason being nothing I did felt important or earned. Dungeons were faceroll. The raids were fun but easy.

"The raids were fun but easy"....i'm going to assume you're talking about lfr.....even on normal and heroic queen azshara has more mechanics than some mythic difficulty bosses. if you're not playing on the hardest difficulty, you cannot say that they are easy.

TheNemesis442 that’s the thing wow classic is one difficulty. Hard as shit . And I like it. Point is you never had to really grind or feel weak in legion or bfa quest rewards were meaningless and little to no social interaction occurred on the level of vanilla

@@jaycrimson3007 Your whole premise starts with classic is harder than live, so that's what I'll address. The raids aren't really that difficult in classic. They are designed that you don't have to have everyone alive to kill many of the bosses...unlike in live. This means that the raids in classic are easier than on live. The wailing caverns dungeon on live has more mechanics than many raid bosses in classic. At this point you're not really comparing two similar games. From a mechanics and dps check standpoint, raiding on live is harder than classic. It sounds like you've only experienced the easy content on live, and you're right about it....its faceroll and boring. Even the PvP is harder on live. There just aren't that many abilites used in pvp in classic compared to that on live. If you have a mythic Azshara Kill or 2200 pvp rating on live and you still feel the same, then I'll shut the hell up. Classic isn't harder than live on the whole, and the gameplay itself on classic is worse than on live. With all that being said.....classic is still more fun that live.....and I don't know why.

TheNemesis442 things you get or accomplish aren’t easy to get or accomplish and you feel more rewarded and proud of what you did. Instead of just facerolling dungeons through lfg you put a group together travel to the dungeon and probably get gear that matters to you and it all feels worth it. Of course I prefer fire mage live can classic it’s way more fun to play but not as rewarding
