The most hardcore FFXIV player I've seen so far was someone who looked exactly like Snow White, had an apple/fainting emote and everything. I was extremely intimidated.

It's so true about the glamourers, and also about the free trial players. I have a friend who put over 1000 hours in the free trial. Im basically not a good player, and never play MMO before, for last 2 weeks I max 6 job with 5 of them Range Job and 1 PLD. I still bad at this game so I play range because I can't dodge properly yet. I basically want to play until all available quest done and all Job got Max and most of Log complete (the one that possible without expansion) The downside is, I cant do gardening, I dont have retainer for my Disciples of Hand/Land item, I must keep spending money before it max....And I dont have friend. I wish I can do hard content but my ping and comp spec screaming no.

this is like me haha got very much around 350++ hours (played since Square enix implemented FT max level cap to 60) on free trial with all main class maxed except some crafter class and BLU, and finally i got graduated from that and redeemed my Complete edition code in this month, not a hardcore mmo or doing all the content available myself, i just hanging around, do DR (include DR frontline), collecting some glam, and other casual play, i just enjoy to being in game, even just AFK or sit on gridania chating and listen the ambient music. on that time, i feel like if i graduate from FT, i just dont enjoying thing like this anymore. i feels like i "forced" to do all the content and not laying around doing nothing because you pay the subs andd so, not a single money wasted.

As someone who has run dungeons and raids several hundred times over just to get a single outfit piece... Yeah, you learn that content. Then you optimize your play to do it faster to farm faster. THEN you start explaining mechanics and helping new players understand the content so you can finish runs smoothly. AND THEN you start making macros to explain the content even faster to optimize your teaching. You become a hyper optimized player AND teacher, for the sake of that ONE HELMET THAT STILL HASN'T DROPPED FOR ME THIS IS MY 98TH RUN AND IF I DON'T GET IT BY RUN 100 I WILL take a break and play some music in town, fish a bit, grind a bit in diadem, maybe do some Eureka or Bozja. Still gotta murder Rathalos more for that coat too... When players say Glamour/Transmog/Fashion is the true endgame, it always feels lighthearted and joking at first. A fun way to recognize people who have great outfits. But when you're a part of that endgame... You must ascend in order to achieve your outfit composition ideas. Oh god someone please help me I never have more than a few million gil on me. I can't stop spending it to get more fashion. I own every single outfit on the Mogstation/FF14 Store including both female and male variants, I fantasia every month just to wear more outfits.. Yoshi-P please... I need more room in my Glamour dresser, 400 slots isn't enough, my outfits are spilling into my retainers to the point where I had to buy more retainers... More Glamour plates, I will literally pay per slot for more... I already *CONSUME* Glamour prisms like water... Farming three to four sets of end game gear just so each class of their respective archetypes can have a unique outfit... I need to play something else for awhile..

Honestly I love having rpers around, even though I'm too shy and antisocial to RP myself. When you're not someone like asmon who will constantly have people around following him and interested in his every move rpers really make the world feel a lot more alive to me. Just having people gathered around having casual conversation, interacting with each other, and in general just having fun is great. Going from a non RP based server to a RP heavy one is like a whole new world. Even when I walk into a place and people are mid conversation it's just somewhat comforting knowing that there are things going on outside of just killing monsters. Honestly if it wasn't for rpers I'd probably have left the game a while ago because the world would just feel kind of dead

The guy is complaining about the wrong thing - crafting isn't a pyramid scheme, it's a bait & switch. You want to be a master weapons smith? Great! There's the blacksmith's guild. Of course, you won't just need that class, you'll need carpenter, alchemist, leatherworker and weaver to make the ingredients for the weapons. In FF14 you're an omni-crafter because all gearsets usually need almost all crafts (Except Culinarians - they live in their own special recipe bubble). The bit about mentors is too true. In the nearly 8,000 hours I have put into this game, I have seen maybe 3 mentors that actually were respectable players. The vast majority do half the work other players put in, don't understand even the most simple mechanics, and somehow play their class worse than the players who skipped the entire leveling process by spending money, all the while they remain completely silent when a new player asks for advice, leaving a non-mentor player in the party to explain things instead, because unlike the average mentor, they actually know what the hell is going on. And then there's the real special mentors. The ones that not only suck at the game, know nothing, and help no one, but also play healer only to rush ahead of the sprout tank at every single opportunity, demanding they speed up. Even if you go at the fastest speed possible, it's not fast enough for them, because they don't understand the game enough to know that the tank actually can't just run forward non-stop, especially WARs, who don't have an oGCD AoE to catch additional mobs with whenever Yoshi P decides a dungeon's mobs should be impossible to hit all at once with just one GCD, or that they should take a moment to fully spawn before you can actually hit them and hold aggro. These are the mentors that use rescue as part of their normal rotation, use damage spells as often as WoW gets content updates, get passive aggressive when new players make mistakes, pressure sprout tanks to pull harder than their gear can actually handle and get the party wiped as a result, and for some reason always show up as either a half naked catgirl, or a lala in the most "UWU so cyute" outfit they could find on Eorzeacollection and throw together in 10 minutes or less. The only reason they're even playing healer is because it gets them the fastest possible queue on mentor roulette, which they are only doing to get a mount so they can have something other than just their crown icon to boost their fragile ego. Should mentor roulette queue them into EX content, they will stay just long enough to see if the party can carry them, and if the party wipes, they will immediately leave, often choosing to spend the penalty duration RPing in Limsa until they can queue into another party of unfortunate players who have been randomly selected to be the next stepping stone on their path to the mount. If this specific brand of mentor chooses to play tank instead, do not bother praying, god cannot save you from their on-cooldown provoke because they believe their crown, gaudy resistance weapon, and ability to turn the boss into a beyblade means that they are a better tank than the other tank in the party that was actually handling the fight correctly until the mentor took control.
@damir_van_kalaz
@damir_van_kalaz Жыл бұрын
@Sonic Mobian It's not that mentor status corrupts people who get it. The people who are awful mentors were already awful players before they got the mentor status. It's not that mentor status turns good players into bad ones, it's that the mentor status tends to attract all the worst people in the game's community. Like you just said, you don't need the mentor tag to teach people. Normal people help other players all the time, the only ones that pursue the mentor tag are the people that want to have an icon that makes them feel superior to everyone else around them, even though what it's meant to suggest about them doesn't actually apply - they're not helpful. I was not expecting the out of left field RWBY reference, but putting that aside, mentor status kind of is just a glorified title. You can get it with relatively little effort and/or any real game knowledge, as you really only need 1 DPS, 1 Healer, and 1 Tank at level 90, 1,500 commends, 1,000 duty clears, and, if you want to do Mentor Roulette, all non-savage and non-EnW EX content unlocked and cleared, which is a lot easier to get than it may sound. You can get both DPS and healer at the same time just by leveling SMN or SCH, as leveling one will level the other, and then you can pick up GNB and skip 60 levels of the tank leveling process as well. People tend to commend healers a lot more than they do DPS, so just play the game as SCH and by the time you reach level 90 you'll already have a pretty good chunk of the commends you need. If you do your duty roulettes every day, then, coupled with playing through the MSQ, you'll probably have almost all of the 1,000 duty clears you need, if not all of them by the time you reach the end of the EnW story quests. If you still need some duty clears and/or commends though, you can just farm the first guildhest over and over as SCH. You don't even have to do anything, you can just let Eos do all the healing and generally you'll still get 2-3 commends by the end of it. Most players end up meeting the requirements for mentor status without even intentionally working toward it. There's no review process that gets you approved, just a set of arbitrary and easily passed requirements you need to meet. There's no system in place to ensure that mentors are actually helpful or even decent at the game themselves. That said, it's exactly like you mentioned - players are given no reason to bother asking mentors for help. Even most new players at this point know that the average mentor is not going to help them even if they ask, and the ones that don't know very quickly find out.

What really annoyed me was him sprinting ahead and pulling mobs, now I'm a healer main and personally consider it very rude and disrespectful towards the tank to even walk ahead of the tank in a dungeon. There's one more group. The completionist who did EVERYTHING, just stand around somewhere in their shiny armor waiting for someone who asks for help, and one second later, they let you hop into their flying car and show you the wonders of the game, blowing your mind with one interesting thing after the other, bury you in crafted gear and minions that they present to you as if you are billionaire in a car shop. They are Bruce Waynes and Tony Starks that makes miracles happen in an instant.

I was joining an extreme trial yesterday and two mentors show up. After the first attempt failed two of them just left without saying a word. Turns out we have to wait another 30 mins for a healer to join and we succeeded at the second attempt. Mentors should get a license before getting the title.

Mentors really depend on the server. Are there mentors that are total trash? Yes. Is every mentor trash? No, there are as many great mentors as there are bad just like there are good and bad sprouts. Bundling every single mentor with label "bad" is a little unfair

Very unfair but then people will come in here and say “relax he was joking, but most was true” and that’s just cap because I believe he genuinely meant every word and more or less laid out that mediocre hierarchy well.

Savage Raiding, Housing Ultimate - that my jam. Walking around the servers and making hours and hours of home-design for other is a passion and the biggest time-eater next to Savage raiding. Now i just need to get to the point to run the ultimates and im happy as a Ronka in water.

I'm a crafter 😭 I love it, not for money but it's just fun to do but instances give me anxiety, so I beg my friend who never touched a craft and has every class maxxed to run me through dungeon and I make whatever he wants, hell I'll even get the mats. It's a mutual relationship 😂
