@@GeekyC. I more take it that having it take place in Britain added a bit of charm to it. The accents and the slightly different customs added to the character of it that made it more memorable. The "it's school but magic" had been done hundreds of times. It's a bit more unique for taking place somewhere other than the US, in a place they basically remove any form of technology, and the school is a giant castle with chaotic design. I think the show still could have been okay otherwise, but it wouldn't be as memorable. It's why Wukong was so fantastical to people, it retells a story that's incredibly rare in the west with customs that are completely foreign.

To be fair, HP movies ain't perfect and one of the reasons is time. You can't cramp in the biggest book in the series into the shortest film and not lose a lot of meat. Eh, fan fiction made 20 years after the original doesn't perturb me that much because I don't watch it. Ghostbusters is still a fantastic movie, the prequels pre-ruined Star Wars for me more just by illustrating that Star Wars really only had 2 particularly good movies out of 6, Trek lost me after DS9, Doctor Who is still that quirky British sci fi show with charmingly bad special effects my dad used to watch on PBS, LOTR is still the same classic trilogy I read as a teenager. Most of the stuff I liked growing up was *original* , not reboots, rehashes, spinoffs, adaptations, etc, and I'm much more inclined to gamble my time on something original that looks good now.

It's happened with literally every book adaptation. I think the only show that it didn't happen to was Game of Thrones seasons 1-4. Those seasons faithfully adapted the source material. After season 4, the material didn't exist because the book wasn't finished (still isn't). Not that I am excusing the abysmal writing we got in seasons 5-8. I can't think of another faithful adaptation, maybe you can.

The only thing that they can try to improve upon is the second half of "The Deathly Hallows", it was a bit of disappointment, but it didn't take away much from the whole experience. The author herself knows it and they could probably do something together. Other than this, sticking to the books is their best bet, that's the main advantage of a series format, that you can replicate something as close as possible to the original. That should be number one priority. The second one is assembling another god-tier cast somehow. To be honest, the actors we had with the movies were more good-looking, than what is described in the books, but they captured the spirit of the heroes perfectly. If they can do those two things again - respect the source material and gather another god-tier cast - they'll swim in the ocean of money. But if HBO wants to "find out", they're free to lose their money and join the ranks of countless bozos we had recently.

This already happened with House of the Dragon Season 2. Season 1 was good but Season 2 was so bad and deviated from the source material so far that George R.R Martin wrote a Scathing Blog Post spoiling the next seasons because of how bad their plans are moving forward and talks about how "Toxic" the new changes are to the show if it continues on. George only deleted the blogpost because he was warned not to do this or he'll face legal actions.

That's because they hired people who worked on The Acolyte to write it also one of the showrunners, Miguel Sapochnik who'd had a hand in some of the better parts of GOT left after season 1 leaving it to Ryan Condal who only had three project to his name prior to this and none of them were great.

You know what's hilarious when it comes to GRRM? He will post a blog expressing his contempt for the source material being ignored for HotD, but when fans were expressing our contempt with the direction GoT was taken post season 4, George lambasted us. He may be a talented writer but he's a giant hypocritical piece of you know what. I do agree with everything he wrote in that blog though and am not looking forward to future HotD seasons in the slightest.

Tbh, the signs of the so called "creative writing" were already there during the 1st season. Making Alicent and Rhaenyra equal of age and childhood friends or pointless faking death of Laenor were a big red flag already. We've only been more forgiving, since Paddy Considine as Viserys was phenomenal with portraying his character and carried that season all by himself.

I always felt like the way to do your "own thing" with a series adaptation is to introduce a few new characters as a B plot. It's a school. There are a lot of students. So introduce some additional students and come up with original B plots to intertwine into the story. A Plot = faithfully recreate the books B Plot = your opportunity to have episodes following other characters that add to and expand on the world without altering or interfering with the A Plot. It would definitely help with a series where the rights were bought before the books were finished. You can pad out your seasons a bit and if some characters become a fan favorite (think Daryl Dixon from Walking Dead), you can have an entire season of them on a "side quest" while waiting for the author to finish the latest book. Though if Game of Thrones had tried this, they'd still be doing side quest seasons to this day.....

Actually Voldy is one of the few characters that could be cool being trans, IF it's done only at the right time. Like it only happens after the original body is long dead, and I'm picturing maniacal vibes like Gene Simmons in *Never Too Young To Die.* Say at the end of Goblet of Fire with the rebirth ritual, Voldy decides to make the new body form as a female. Then you have this sinister goth mommy with lots of Medusa imagery, and all the death eaters simp that much harder. Guess this is kinda reminding me of Orochimaru being genderfluid too.

They think of work in narcissistic terms, as if that was a tool for them to express themselves and have fun while making their dream fanfics that only appeal to themselves. And that's not what work is. Work is a service that you provide to others, and, because you do something for *other* people, they reward you with money. If you have fun while doing so, then great, but you don't get to demand other people to give you their money so you can do whatever you want.
