TBH LoL legendary skins are the only skins in any game I think are worth their cost. Riot basically remakes every aspect of the champion except how their abilities function. Yes this includes lore as well.... Legendary skins (and a lot of skin lines in general) have their own well written lore separate from the canon league universe. Compare this to Overwatch's model swap only legendary skins which cost around the same amount of money xD

Every competitive game is toxic in a way. I'm not sure why people exclusively attribute this to league. Search for videos of fighting game offline tournaments literally punching each other in the face out of rage. Edit: I've also only spent money on a skin exactly once because I gifted it to someone who ended up being super happy about it (worth it, it's the little things sometimes) but I still got at least one skin for every champion, often more, just from the free boxes. I think many people who want more skins are hoping to pull them rather than spend money on them but I could be wrong.

From the outside, it does seem weird that they'd give some characters skins, but not others and that this would go on for years. They do somewhere between 5-12 skins every two weeks and they've been doing it for years. I assume trying to improve workflow would be difficult and its already at a blazing pace. As for why some champs get skins and some don't its simply because some champs skins sell better, would you make a skin that would only pull in maybe 10k in revenue just to appease a few fans or would you put out Ezreals 19th skin for a guarantee of 100k. The skins team carry riots income and intentionally making a much smaller profit every few weeks just to make fans happy isn't viable.

it’s not “fairly easy” as you might think, legendaries and skins above this tier takes them longer to develop because most of them are basically made from the ground up. They have actual different models not just a skin and some vfx put on top of the original, their animations are different for every skill and interactions, new voice lines that are congruent to the skin’s universe lore, some have gimicks that are basically minigames inside the base game like elementalist lux who can basically change models midgame by mixing elements.

I played league for ten years, eventually the battlepass fomo shit burned me out (I have hdad with a dash of autism for fun) because even tho (as i found out through an site that sums your total) i spent an embarrassing amount of money on it while i was simply enjoying the game, their constant "player retention" efforts and making me feel like i have to log in ever day, quickly killed it for me, i will do something of my own accord for 10 years, but the moment you you make me feel i have to, it won't last a week. But what i actually wanted to address was "losing in league means you have to sit there losing for 20 minutes", in the over 5k games i played (I was depressed for a few years and it was literally all i did) i never once surrendered, eventually i landed on not being an asshole about it if the other four people clicked yes, but i never once got myself to do it. Because, surrendering robs you of so many things: - Are you frustrated with how the game is going ?, is it getting you mad that things are not going your way ? .... good, sit with it, feel it, and learn how to deal with it, yes the game offers an easy out, but life won't, teach yourself to deal with your emotions instead of opting out. - If you're only willing to play the game when you're ahead, then that is also the only condition you will ever be able to play under, you can't turn the ship around if all you've ever allowed yourself to prioritize is smooth sailing, look for strategies, experiment, see what works, learn to adapt to being on the back foot. - And even if defeat is all but a certainty, go wild, try that crazy play, experiment with the mechanics of your champion, play like you've got nothing to lose. Or click yes to surrender and flip a coin if you're going to hate the next match or not.

Asmon, been watching you for years now. I only play League of Legends to ruin other people's ranked games. I am the lowest rank possible in the game (iron 4 0 LP) and I get placed against people from gold and silver. I have been doing this for almost 2 years now and riot has not banned/punished me for it in a manner that would matter. Max I get is a 5 game ranked restriction where I can't play ranked for 5 games. If I can get away with it intentionally it scares me how many other one time trolls Riot is letting go off without punishment. I also abuse their report system and report people for harassing me(the troll ruining their games) and I often get a notification letting me know the player I reported got punished. LoL's ranked system and punishment system is a joke. I tried to play this game seriously but got fed up of the trolls so I decided why not see how far I can get with it. Now I find myself logging into LoL just to see how far I can fuck with people without getting banned.

It is still stupid but it really boils down to: Syndramains: I just want Coven legendary Namimains: I want legendary but I dont really mind the theme, it could be anything I just want to look cool. Riot: Releases non-legendary Syndra Coven and Nami Coven legendary. I can see why it would be frustrating.

That is such a good point. League sucks because game is usually decided within 5-10 minutes at max and the rest of the time you and your team probably just delay the inevitable. The amount of "close" games are minuscule. In 90% of games you have to be dogshit-feeding to lose or super korean-smurf to win. So basically 90% of games, after minute 10 is just useless suffering or time waste, depending on if you will lose or win. The most fun timespan of league is laning phase for me. Everything else after is just useless shenanigans. Especially when league has so much mechanics that are efficient for winning, but are boring to play and play against. Like, any mechanic that discourages interaction, like splitpushing all day or champs that are only running away or are made to avoid you. Fighting is the only thing that is really fun, its not winning. I rather have a loss with great fights then an easy win with 0 fights.

I'm trying to understand where this is coming from. I started playing LoL in S2 and ever since then, I kept talking about how good the characters designs are, and that 90% of the champions could have their own show, because they are so distinctive, unique, well written and acted. And 10 years later, Arcane happened, many other Riot games were made and I was right. I always come back to League every few years and it's because of the champions. I also like to draw my favorites, made some 3D models with my fav weapons etc. So we get very emotionally invested in those characters, like any other media like books, movies, games, tv shows etc. It's kind of the same in WoW, when you have a main and you HOPE they release a good tier set for your class. The difference is that your WoW characters is...yours, doesn't have the same backstory or development, so you're kinda less attached, maybe? Also, in WoW, you pay for a monthly sub, while LoL is free, but you can, if you want, pay for skins. Also, sometimes you love the Splash Art SOOO much, you want to "own" it. I had this thing with one character in LoL, where they started making mostly comedic skins for him and since I really really like him, I was kinda annoyed they're making fun of him and wanted a serious and badass skin. This changed years later, they released proper badass skins and I bought them and I'm happy with it. I guess some people are even MORE obsessed. So people are not actually BEGGING for microtransactions, they're begging for nice cosmetics to use with their beloved character. If people can LOVE Snape from Harry Potter, why can't people love their character in LoL, ESPECIALLY when Riot are putting SO much work into their story. League also has some amazing cinematics AND music with those characters. Now they have entirely new games AND TV shows with those characters. It's a whole universe and someday we will also have an MMO. Like, some people LOVE Arthas or Illidan from WoW. They're buying statues, t-shirts, merch with them...same with LoL. Thing is, for some characters, the ONLY thing you can buy...is a skin. They don't have statues, figures, merch etc...just a skin. So people feed their hunger this way...I guess. I mean, we don't see it as a microtransaction, we see it as the same thing as buying a Funko Pop with this character. Yeah, some people are obsessed and it's weird and cringe, but...every media franchise has some kind of an obsessed fandom.

MOBA's tend to be quite emotionally intense and frustrating, combined with annonymity and distance from behind the screen it is a very good soil for aggression. Most players are egoistically obssessed about KDA, damage dealt or MMR and winning rather than trying to have a good game. Maybe every single player thinks their MMR should be higher than it is, because they are focusing more on others mistakes instead of their own. Few people realize that every change with every patch is like unlearning you the game.

As a part of the Nami mains, I was just happy we got a legendary, I wasn't really banking on getting anything for Nami for awhile, but then BOOM. And to be fair to syndra mains, she fits the 'coven' theme better, she's this power hungry mage basically. I would probably be a bit mad too.. the perfect skinline comes and your champ that most likely fits it the best doesn't get it? ouch. But they are also crazy it seems like LOL.

To be Fair, Coven was teased around Syndras Anniversary and a lot of us were hoping Riot would give her a Legendary after 13 years since her release, of course Nami mains deserve their legendary as well, but all the things adding up only for the disappointment really hit us hard.

Just for context since Asmon conpared it to tier sets. Warriors always get a tier set whrn rveryone else gets a tier set. Some ate vetter than others but you know youre getting another. In league some champions only get a skin every few years so if they give your champion one thst sucks it will be years before you see another. There are 160 champions in the game but most people only actually play a few of them and some only play 1.

the reason why old champions dont have high cost skins is actually very simple, they are much more likely to get rework or it might be already in plans so spending resources on expensive skins when you gonna change everything wouldnt make sense

It kinda sucks being an unpopular champion main and getting a skin, knowing that you are not going to get a new one for another 3-5 years minimum while Lux or Ahri get their 1-2 yearly skins because they sell so much, however Syndra has gotten at least 1-2 skins a year for the last 3 years and their entitled mains are complaining that they don't get a legendary skin, when a huge part of the roster still doesn't have one either.

I stopped playing League years ago because of how toxic the community was (even over something as chill as ARAMs but people would proceed to hound me if I made one tiny mistake) Seeing this really shows me why the community is that way. lmao I mean I think the game is fun every once in a while for 2-3 games and then I uninstall it again for a few years. XD I just don't think the game really is that great because it just feels like the same thing over, and over, and over, and it gets boring really fast. I mean to be fair I'm not into PvP games because I take things way too personal and because there's always cheaters or super sweaty people in competitive games or anything that has PvP, and I just can't be bothered to care that much over something so dumb that doesn't even give much rewards for going through the trouble of being so sweaty, so I just choose to avoid PvP to save myself from the negativity it brings into my mindset. (and I wish other people did the same if they know a game is bringing out the worst in them) As an artist I really love the character designs though and I enjoy the characters themselves but couldn't be bothered to try and enjoy the game. XD
