I understand how infuriating this is but it's crazy how effective DDoS attacks are. A couple kids with a couple hundred bucks to spend on a botnet can literally break the whole game down. I object to current-day Blizzard as much as the next guy does but this is the one situation you really can't fault them. There are solutions against DDoS for websites but that's because you don't really need constant communication with them - you get a page, click a link, get another page, etc. That's very slow compared to a game where you might be exchanging anywhere from 5 to 100 packets every single second you're logged in. DDoS protection just doesn't work. If anything, get mad at Blizzard for saying "we are working on it". There's literally almost nothing they can do.

In EU it was smooth as much as it was possible. On Shazzrah we got instantly 8 layers at release time (3 more layers added in a minute up from 5). Got only 1 small spike 30m after, no disconnects, it was a miracle

My experience, I log into my new main druid, get a party invite, get summoned directly to the ramparts stone, and fell off the rampart and almost died to a few 63 orcs. Then we proceed to the sloppiest ramparts run ever, followed by smooth sailing after that.

I think blizz did a relatively good job from the experience on my server, compared to OG launch for sure lol. I play sulfuras horde which is another high pop east coast server. I went into blasted lands around 545 with my group and the SECOND we crossed into blasted lands it was lag spiking and rubber banding. We got to the DP and it was INSANE! Lag was intense, but I only got 1 DC before entering Outland. There was a massive pile of people waiting for the quest to appear and as I was clicking him checking for quest one time it DC me. After a few min of waiting for the quest to appear, I closed wow deleted WTF, logged back in got the quest immediately, logged out restored WTF, logged back in lag was mostly gone and ran through the dark portal and was golden for the rest of the night. I had 2 other DCs when I tried to leave /4 after filling our dungeon group so I could actually read party chat, but that was it. My whole group was good until 4am with no other DCs. That was a massive improvement for me personally compared to BCs launch back in the day.

It was actually a very smooth launch imo, comparable to shadowlands. Lag, and the layered opening was a bit odd, but otherwise not too bad. No dcs, queues, 12 hours extended maintenance, everything went pretty smooth for me except the 300 horde camping the portal

This isn't the classic TBC launch, this is the classic EVERY expansion launch. My buddy would always take off a couple of days from work every launch and I would ask him every time when he would learn lol
