That is not the case for someone who works on a game and you need to learn to be able to cooperate with your audience to a certain level. The loremaster made a post in which he said that they were injecting real-world issues into an RPG. Sexism and Masogany are what have most gamers reluctant to buy this game. I agree as a guy that games are for getting away from reality for a while. I think they reason for the push to include reality is for female gamers. Women seem to enjoy drama and I think it is an attempt to draw in more female gamers. The problem is not Ciri being the protagonist. It was pretty much stated in witcher 3 that she was going to be the next protagonist. Geralt's story is over. There's no point in continuing as him as the protagonist. Especially with that beautiful dlc ending. Also, Ciri is pretty much "The Chosen one" in the Witcher world. The problem is turning her into a literal Witcher when her elder blood powers literally overpowers what a witcher can do.

Hi guys! Polish Witcher fan here. I just want to clear up a few things. First, Sapkowski doesn't hate the Witcher games. He simply considers playing games to be 'not the greatest way to spend free time' and 'not a way to tell stories.' That's why he doesn't engage with the game lore, but his relationship with CDPR is described as 'cordial and warm.' Second, the idea of Ciri becoming a witcher isn't about whether she could survive the Trial of the Grasses. She's special-Elder Blood and one of the toughest women in the books-so she could probably find a way to endure it. The real question is why she would choose to undergo the mutation. The Witcher books aren't meant to be the definitive closure to the centuries-long story of the universe. The ultimate end of the saga is tied to the fulfillment of Ithlinne's Prophecy, which says that a descendant of Ciri will either save or destroy the world. But as we know, witchers are sterile. If Ciri became a witcher before having a child, the prophecy would essentially fail.

Oh so he didnt say he hates gamers, in a nutshell what he said was he thinks we're stupid for spending our time playing them and that we should go read a book or watch a TV show instead because those are better ways to tell a story. This is the equivalent to a Dairy Queen manager meeting me at the drive-through window and telling me "Hey you know you could probably be eating healthier things right? Fast food isn't a good way to eat food, you should probably consider eating somewhere else." This guy shouldn't be judging others for the way they want to spend their free time, nor is he any sort of authority on which medium storytelling is best through. I personally think video games are amazing for storytelling. The players get to interact with the world and discover things about places and people that you would never be able to in books or other forms of media. In a book for example you can have your main character pass through a town, interact with one person, and leave. In a game you can guide the player to a town and every NPC can be listened to or interacted with and learned about, possibly discovering interesting side quests and unlocking new stories along the way. In a book you can describe a grand scene with mountains and wilderness stretching out as far as the eye can see. In a video game, you get to visually see that wilderness and actively choose to stop what youre doing and explore that scene. You have the ability to say "wow i wonder what's down this cave." Or "i wonder whats at the top of that mountain" and actually go there and see for yourself. To me its so much better to view the world through my own eyes than have it described or shown to me through the eyes of the author and how they desire me to see their work. I'd always rather be looking through the eyes of a player with freedom to explore than a main character who's perspective is fixed according to how the author desires.

Ciri is a Witcher in the sense she hunts monsters. Not only did she not undergo the Trial of the Grasses, lorewise she's too old to even attempt it. If they put her through the Trial in the game's story, they absolutely broke canon. If that is the case, they're fuqqing idiots. As a child of the Elder Blood, Ciri handily outclasses a Witcher in terms of power-scaling. And it's not even close. They'll have ironically crippled their girlboss because they thought they could do Witcher lore better than the guy that created it. We will see.

If you think about it, the father actually paid the Witcher (Ciri) to deal with the monster and avoid sacrificing his daughter -that’s why Ciri is there. A lot of the people working on this project worked on the witcher 3 at least. As an EU business they are literally required by law to have a statement on DEI practices, that's just th world we live in. They have been catching a lot of strays about DEI but they don't actually have a choice on whether or not to be involved. Not saying that means they're not on board with it but it's not really even a fair point to judge them. What we need to judge is games when they are finished and we know what they are.

My concern isn't lore but story consistency. The trial is has 70% lethality rate with survivors potentially ending up crippled as well. It was done on young boys specifically because their bodies could take a beating and were malleable to mutations. Most if not all the schools have completely collapsed and the research, experienced experts, and tools have been destroyed. So Ciri can't be a witcher because she is an adult female well outside time acceptable for trial and they couldn't even perform trial if they wanted to due to lack of resources and personnel. Also NO ONE around her wanted to do the trial. It is horrific and traumatized the wolf graduates. Even doing initial phase on elf to undo curse set off Lambert. Literally no one she trusts could or would do it to her.

Trail of the grasses is book established lore, and touch upon in the Witcher 3 game. Adults always die due to their bodies already grown and less adaptable than a child. All women have had a 100% mortality rate. Boys going through the trial had an 80% mortality rate. Only 2 out 10 male children would survive. In Witcher 3, the only adult male to survive the trail of the grasses was the elf Uma (Avallac'h), which was cursed, and also kept alive through Yennefer's help using her magic to help sustain his life I order to break said curse. He was only given the decoctions of the grasses to make his body maluable, to break the curse and restore his elf form, but never given the decoctions to mutate his body that human children would be given at that point. That's the book lore and lore + plot points from Witcher 3.

Witcher 3 was the only game I bought with all dlcs too and played to completion. It is such a shame that whatever money is being directed into these companies, that money seems to make a bigger impression than whatever profit they made with the worldwide revenue coming from the witcher 3. Ironically, disobey biology telling me Ciri would age "backward"(people don't age to be squared unless they have a serious disease... see Angelina Jolie aging for a clear and very highlighted biological explanation of women aging by lose adipose tissue in the face going from a square ish face to a trinagular face, and they did to CIri the opposite while giving her a man's voice topped with the 100% assured lesbo content and the 100% lack of hetero content (that I wouldn't even want because she has been forced in lore and I don't want to go through that emotional ride) and making him a progressive no fertile manlady... Which you know, tell you something about how much she learnt about Yennefer and the sorcerers regrets AND the witchers experiences. What I love the most is the pro this thing comments: "she wants to escape her destiny and not be pursued because she is scared of being hunted"" while hunting monsters and using lesser power to be a victim.

I see several other game studios that made amazing games in the past and totally flop. What do we regularly see when this happens? 1. The old developers and producers are replaced or have left the company. 2. New employees join the company and publicly express how they dislike gamers and how their world views cause that distain. 3. Ciri is called a Witcher by friends but she isn't a true Witcher in the books. All the examples Asmon game are of people with titles BUT there was something involved in gaining those titles (school and testing). Ciri has trained as other witchers to kill monsters, but that training is somewhat incomplete because she hasn't undergone the mutations, shouldn't be able to use signs, and as such, is missing the main part of what makes a Witcher a Witcher. They can make up some bullshit about her Elder blood allowing her to be able to undertake the mutations but then we end up with a Mary Sue character and no one wants that.

It’s not even that a woman became a Witcher, but rather the fact that Ciri, an adult, would choose to become one. The trial of the grasses kill most who undergo it and no one does it by choice. Being a Witcher is not something that people want in the universe, nor is it a glamorous lifestyle. Why Ciri would do it, why Geralt would let her do it, and who would even attempt the trials on her are unknown and nonsensical. Ciri had plenty of skill without the mutations.

that's not a problem with having women as main character, that's just a problem of having bad writers who will just reach for the lowest bar of entry -which is "is she hot? ok then we good to go". Which is not a bad thing, but it also means the incentive to do more with the character than that is often neglected by those who aren't really capable of writing interesting characters, especially female characters. Not that all the writers for ugly female characters do it better, in fact they tend to be 10x worse lol. But as an analogy, it's a bit like how Unreal Engine 5 allows for very good looking graphics with much less effort, but instead of making existing games better, it makes devs skip traditional optimization methods because the bar for entry on good graphics means you can be lazy and still get by. I'm Polish, and a couple of local news sites reported that most people who worked on the Witcher series and CP left the company. Many were pressured to leave because of the wrongthink, as the CEO wanted that ESG credit secured so he's completely lying 29:55. For example, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the producer of The Witcher 3, took a lot of people with him, and they made a new studio called Rebel Wolves (aptly named lol). They signed a publishing contract with Bandai recently. Also CDPR brochures for investors ( in Polish language) have pages upon pages of statistics and percentages presenting how 'diverse' their workforce is and how proud of how they're 'the most diverse Polish game company'. What a nonsense. One more thing. The Witcher was as popular as The Lord of The Rings over here and a lot of us nerds grew up reading the books. CDPR potentially fucking up the legacy now will probably feel like what the corpos did to Star Wars or LotR.

Idc about how Ciri looks like, but it still doesn't make sense that Ciri would be chugging potions and using weak Signs when she can literally bend space-time and swap dimensions. Like imagine being able to send whatever monster you can imagine from the universe of Witcher to the literal Sun in an instant, yet you'd rather chipping at it slowly with Igni and a silver weapon (that she doesn't even need mind you, she didn't have any problems back in Witcher 3 using her own steel sword. In the lore, why do people go through the trials? It's because they need to mutate their bodies in order to be able to fight 1 on 1 against monsters. She might've wanted to get rid of this emotional and physical baggage by going through the Trials and to deafen the call of the Elder Blood. If any grown-up human could make it, it's her and only her - thanks to the abilities. It's understandable. On top of that - we never had any definitive answer to the "female witcher" claims. Ciri could be the MC, be on the Witcher path, have her Elder Blood, not have mutations and still be taking contracts. It would have been really awesome to play a character quite differnt to Geralt, still based on melee combat but with some different tools and magic, still stay within the Witcher lore and tell a great story. But through just being careless and forcing the idea she must have the mutations - now we have all this. Like why NERF your powerful character to make her just like Geralt when shes not, couldn't, and had all these interesting awesome things about her character exactly as she was? Kinda confusing to me.

I don't like it either but it does make sense to me. The witcher signs and preparing for a battle with potions has always been a staple for the witcher series, so ciri has to be able to do both. They could have switched the signs with elder blood abilities but story wise I think she would be way too strong if she could just warp monsters into the crater of an active volcano.

​@@crowtastic7372I disagree. The game doesn't need old mechanics. It could have new ones. Better ones, more fun ones. She could be making traps and oils like in the 3rd game. She doesn't need signs. And teleporting takes energy. In the game she could be in her 40s, on a brink of being infertile and deciding what to do with her lineage as well as not being in her prime power-wise. It would be much more interesting if you ask me.

The reason why Sapkowski hates them is because he sold the rights to allow them to make the games for a pennies by comparison to the amount CDPR made off of all three games. He became upset at how popular they became by the 3rd game, having sung the praises of the first two games prior to TW3's release, even going as far as to try and sue CDPR for more money after its release and subsequent immediate commercial success. He's a clown. An absolute grifter who just wants money and doesn't care about what actually happens with adaptations to his work as long as he gets his bag. He pulled the same shit with the Netflix show, having sung the writers' praises and did nothing but talk it up for marketing, until the show was out and people bitched about its unfaithful representation of many of the characters. This is outdated news. They did another deal with Andrzej and he is content now. He was pissed off in the past because they paid very little for the game rights to the book (which he consented to) and then the games made the books and the Witcher globally famous.

If I remember correctly, he just took fat wad of cash - single payment - and a small percentage. He considered that a good deal, because he never thought that percentage would amount to anything at all. Then we saw 100% condensated boomer seethe with Witcher III - was funny to watch, not gonna lie

It's true that CDPR originally offered him a royalty deal worth some % of their profits from the Witcher games, but he refused and wanted a cash payment upfront. He later admitted that he was stupid for not believing in their success because he knew nothing about the gaming industry or how profitable it had become. However there was some question about if their original deal was legal under Polish law. Which opened the door for him to sue them for more royalties. The dispute was settled way back in 2020. CDPR gave him a new royalty deal for an undisclosed % or amount.
