I don't understand why purposeful defamation isn't a crime punishable by jail time. Even with his win, even with it being a clear win, some will always see JD as an abuser. That's going to follow him for the rest of his life and he didn't do one single thing to deserve that reputation. It's just not right how much damage someone can inflict on another person with completely false, entirely made up stories about them. No matter if you manage to clear your name legally, you still suffer for the lies of someone else. There will forever be people who don't believe you. Even if you prove it.

The courts are more accurate than most people think. And, even if a verdict is given incorrectly, they can appeal. Of course you can only do this so many times until the judge shuts you down. But yeah, it's extremely hard to incorrectly lose a trial by jury not once, but multiple times. In this case they settled before taking appeals to court again. Johnnys Statement today. Six years ago, my life, the life of my children, the lives of those closest to me, and also, the lives of the people who for many, many years have supported and believed in me were forever changed. All in the blink of an eye. False, very serious and criminal allegations were levied at me via the media, which triggered an endless barrage of hateful content, although no charges were ever brought against me. It had already traveled around the world twice within a nanosecond and it had a seismic impact on my life and my career. And six years later, the jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled. My decision to pursue this case, knowing very well the height of the legal hurdles that I would be facing and the inevitable, worldwide spectacle into my life, was only made after considerable thought. From the very beginning, the goal of bringing this case was to reveal the truth, regardless of the outcome. Speaking the truth was something that I owed to my children and to all those who have remained steadfast in their support of me. I feel at peace knowing I have finally accomplished that. I am, and have been, overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and the colossal support and kindness from around the world. I hope that my quest to have the truth be told will have helped others, men or women, who have found themselves in my situation, and that those supporting them never give up. I also hope that the position will now return to innocent until proven guilty, both within the courts and in the media.I wish to acknowledge the noble work of the Judge, the jurors, the court staff and the Sheriffs who have sacrificed their own time to get to this point, and to my diligent and unwavering legal team who did an extraordinary job in helping me to share the truth. The best is yet to come and a new chapter has finally begun. Veritas numquam perit. Truth never perishes.

All the possibilities of woke tomfoolery aside, proving actual malice is a very uphill battle. Had AH stuck to a believable story of "he punched me sometimes in places not visible" or something similar, it would have been nearly impossible for JD's team to prove actual malice. Of course, she had to overact and tell a story so strange, believing it should put you straight in rehab and the jury saw right through her. You don't lie about someone raping you with a bottle without reckless disregard for the truth (which is the legal definition of actual malice).

@@leila13dnd she did not win anything. That is another one of Ambers lies that people believe. That case was the Sun vs Johnny. They called him a woman beater. I like this a lot. I've spent quite a lot of time over the last few weeks arguing with two women (both of whom have possibly had abusive relationships in the past, which I have not, just for context) who have both felt that Amber was further being abused through this trial but neither of them have seen much of the evidence in the right context, such as the recordings of what she says to him or the the trailer park witness who was triggered just watching her behaviour with him. And I'd argue that there were SO many abuse survivors who were empathising with Johnny rather than Amber. It wasn't just like that they liked him because he was likable, it was that they could see themselves in every way that he acted and the way that he reacted. They saw a man hurting and possibly slowly recovering, rather than the monster that he had been painted by certain media outlets and other people who hadn't bothered to look at the evidence. My acquaintances saw Johnny Depp as a monster, and they could not see that they have been guilty of the very thing that they were telling people not to do - labelling the victim incorrectly, and allowing the abuse to continue. They believed that any abuse victim who supported him were misguided, which just felt all different kinds of wrong to me. Sadly, I don't think this outcome will change their mind on this, sadly. However, it makes me feel extremely pleased that many, many abuse survivors and domestic abuse survivors have been liberated and found some healing through this experience. Hopefully, it'll will start to bring about a change in other abuse trials, and not just for the rich and famous.

She has been involved in this case for 3 years and probably has seen every little piece of evidence, and every witness, including the ones that couldn't get in due to hearsay. Even if she saw it as an obligation, over that amount of time working and investing in such a case, you're gonna be close to the end result of it emotionally. I have no doubt that she had a more personal connection to Depp, and even a moral investment in the justice she helped piece together. But to say that personal investment in a final result of a 3 year-project couldn't be emotional simply because of the release of obligation and closure of such a large scale project is absurd.

You said EVERYTHING I was thinking about this whole situation!
@DaveSmith-cp5kj2 жыл бұрын
To be fair, the metoo movement has always been about exploiting the system for money like Amber. Real victims don't wait years to get out of a bad relationship, and when they do speak of it, they certainly don't look to get money out of it. Real victims look for things like restraining orders which actually protect them. The excuse often given is that getting justice is embarrassing, but that excuse only works for people who don't know how the justice system works. If you are a victim of abuse you automatically are made confidential throughout the entire proceedings. Even police cannot see this information without a court explicitly ordering that information to be accessible, that's how seriously privacy in these situations are.
@munchkin71512 жыл бұрын
I disagree, it is precisely because Amber's a fake victim that it is so damaging to victims of domestic abuse. It's a huge cry-wolf situation that lessen the credibility of future victims. Even though she rightfully went down, she has caused huge damage to real victims of DV in the future by deligitimizing their actual suffering for her own ego.
@pcbangbros83502 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but the issue is that the "victim movement" just baselessly agree with other women. The second a woman says something happened to her women instantly flock to her and say she's telling the truth. Let this also serve as a wake up call to women to stop backing up other women with no facts or evidence of their ordeal.
