Absolutely. My father had his own troubled past, he used to steal cars, rob small stores and sell shit on the streets, before he had me. I remember one time as a kid stealing this monthly paid magazine out of someones mailbox and giving it to him. I thought he would be happy because he loved cars. As he looked at me handing him that magazine he almost cried, realising how I must have gotten it. Went on a long talk about how fucked up that is, and how I should be ashamed. I was. Then he took me to give the magazine back, made me ring the bell and apologise to the man I stole from. I can’t imagine I would be growing up doing shit like that, or see him do it. 20:56 - no, it isn't "made to do that' - that's just regular glass, and they don't treat it or cover it in case your car is submerged and you need to break the window. The windshield is made by laminating PVB between two pieces of glass so the glass doesn't shatter and go everywhere
@doggie846 ай бұрын
You're half right. Where you are wrong is that it's not just "regular glass" . It's tempered glass and it's absolutely meant to break into small blunt pieces (instead of large sharp pieces) while being simultaneously stronger than "regular" glass. The lamination process you speak of is a real thing, but costs significantly more than other windows in a car. This is why it's done in more critical places like the windshield. The windows in the back of a car can vary, but they are always made with tempered glass. Most of time they aren't laminated the same as the windshield. The lamination process is used to make the windshield much stronger than just tempered glass alone. This is done to prevent oncoming objects from penetrating the cabin, like a rock on the highway or something.

As a native of San Francisco (I now live in a suburb not far from it) what ticks me off is the police have been refusing to deal with problems like this for decades because it's an organized operation with lots of players and taking it down means doing work. Instead when I worked in the courts I'd see whole task forces dedicated to having a couple guys who can 'look the part' walk up to idiots and pretend to offer drugs or ask to buy small amounts of street level drugs - take down the seriously stupid ultra low level offenders, and ignore complex more serious problems. And of course they focus those task forces in areas with high likelihood of black or brown offenders because juries won't ask questions and just return guilty when the defendant 'fits the profile'. Meanwhile real issues like the thefts in these videos just go unchecked. In the video - the part where he shows where two cars were parked. One of those neighborhoods was an historically poor area where the projects used to be. But the other by the water is a wealthy area. The police ignore the issue in both. Note how he also comments on the jacket. People who look into these things do notice that most 'real crime' in any given city is committed by a very small number of highly active actors. With some manpower - the cops could end all of this. The number of people involved is probably very small.

this sounds absolutely insane to me. in brasil, a public servant (like a cop or delegate) denying duty is a crime (prevaricação, but it seems prevarication is a false cognate, they aren't the same thing). excepting discretionary acts, when a public servant has the ability to act, they have also the obligation. obviously, it sadly doesn't work perfectly on practice. but at least it's a law violation
@k2k4 Жыл бұрын
Asmon's initial response of 'lol put C4 in it' was the first thing I thought about this.. Of course they're already skirting the law since booby traps aren't legal and actually hurting someone is against the law, even if they stole from you. Although I think that if the state sanctioned a few package thief napalm bombs there's a case that the criminal sentenced their own self when they stole the package and the consequences were completely the results of their own risk.

what i dont get the most is... why are packages left on porches in the first place? Here in france packages that cant fit in a mailbox (and all mailboxes have locks) are instead kept at the post office t be collected, and a paper slip to come collect it left in the box instead. Also when you collect they ask for proof of identity so stealing the slip is worthless. I dont know why the same isnt done here, with packages either left in a locked box, or safely kept in the post office until they are collected.
