Even if you’re not a large enough studio to have a de jure policy from a DEI/HR mommy, you still have multiple sources of soft and hard pressure from bankerbois, industry groups, and the lovely games journalists. The soft pressure is strong enough to be affecting Japanese devs at this point. It’s truly unfortunate, but it’s legitimately “less wrong” to assume any game with certain character archetypes will be more of the usual slop

I seem to remember Nurgels most devote streamer covering how it, was a game about a poor single woman who was likely native American white in Louisiana in a monster apocalypse. who sbi got involved then replaced with some random black lady that doesn't fit the plot, then they got rid of the entire story which was already most likely a commentary on the discrimination and struggle of native Americans the working class and rural people, and Asmond keeps bringing up at least four times now and keeps being reminded by viewers and comments but this game he magically forgets unlike the other sbi games; like brother if you want to play the game just do it, stop doing these weird schemes to have your cake and eat it too, now I suspect he uniquely is scheming for just this game and wants to play just this game because it is uniquely getting rid of commentary on the poor or rural people or natives or a mixture of a few or all which for once isn't anything he is.

Funny thing is that this is been going on longer than anyone realizes (including myself probably) Shit started with the "summer of love riots" and now because of that you get all this sort of "sterilization" in gaming similar to movies and comics. Its like a slow moving rot in the industry that just sticks itself to anything and sucks the life out of it, then moves on to the next host (examples are Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and on the gaming side Ubisioft is the worse of it). As Asmon said SBI is just a small portion of the problem, not the entire thing. There are many other SBI "like" groups (Baby ghosts, Hit Detection, BGG, Etc.)

Blackrock investements, DEI and the agendas in the AAA games today have very little to do with the stock market and investors. I would argue DEI is more akin to to socialism, since everyone knows it doesn't boost sales, it reduces them all else equal because that is what it ultimately is, politically driven and not profit driven.

I wonder if it's going to work out for them financially. 75% to 90% of the playerbase in these kinds of genres is male, and they almost all choose a male character if there is an option to choose between female or male like mass effect. Ussually a game has to counter weight that taste preference by appealing in other ways. Thing is that AAA game dev struggles to produce enough quality and novelty to counter weight that preference these days, western devs are too up themselves to appeal with hot characters anymore, and the market is incredibly competitive lately with many other options.

one thing i don't understand is why AAA studios and Corporations accepted the fact they need to budget more than $500,000,000(exaggerating but you get the point) to produce games, only to ultimately fail. Did we the consumer convince them that we needed this to happen? Remember back when Iwata said that the rapid growth that the game industry had gotten so used to was largely due to population trends, economic growth and the kids who grew up with the industry now being old enough to buy more games and multiple consoles? Iwata said that the game industry continuing with this trajectory in mind was unsustainable and that it could only go in one of two directions to sustain itself. The "hardcore" audience basically ushered in everything that is now in force, and AAA is now centered entirely around them. We are simply seeing how niche of an audience they have always been and why they shouldn't have had such a loud voice compared to everyone else.

Nintendo doesn't like selling their hardware at a loss so to keep the price down they'll likely focus on less capable hardware. However people don't buy Nintendo hardware for the specs. They buy Nintendo hardware to play Nintendo games, and if it does that well, then it will sell well. That being said, I'm done with Nintendo, and with consoles in general. My day 1 Nintendo Switch I bought in 2017 and my PS4 Pro that I sold last year will be the last consoles I own. All the gaming in my house is done on PC now, and by extension the Steam Deck.

@@KenLinx Na, I'm just not into it. I've been gaming for a very long time. I got into shooters back in Doom/Quake days but really went full in during the 360 era. Back then I was into multiplayer and competitive games. Around the time the battlepass became a thing I just started losing interest. I just don't like the idea of battlepasses. I also have no desire to play multiplayer these days. It's a trifecta of everything I don't want in a game. Guns for weapons, battlepass, and multiplayer. So I have no use for shooters. I'm into fantasy settings. Swords and magic. Single player RPGs, JRPGs, Metroidvanias, Platformers, SoulsLikes, etc... I'm sure there's some really good shooters. I heard Helldivers 2 was great. It's just not was I'm interested anymore.
