Man, I sometimes feel sorry for develeopers in situations like this. Imagine doing as good of a job as you possibly can as an artist, software engineer or game designer, only to get shit thrown at you for all those decisions that you didn't have a say in. Shit like predatory monetization or internet connection requirement for singleplayer often gets decided at the top, then it's passed over to implement for the dev team, and they have to do it - because guess what, if you say "i don't want to be part of this" you'll lose your job, and in an instant there will be someone else who's not as vocal about their grievances with monetization systems and whatnot. Thus, you lost your job and acomplished exactly nothing to change direction the game is taking.

Yet another game were i look at it and all i can think is "raze it to the ground and start again", I dont know how they fucked up the combat this much, the unique styles should have written themselves, let me just lazily make some changes based on my limited knowledge of the characters: Harley: short and mid range - bat/hammer and revolver, focus on acrobatics and evasion, excels at out-maneuvering targets at close range, she can still have the grapelgun to supplement that, could be funny if she stole it from batman at some point. Deadshot - short and long range - wrist guns and sniper, i'm iffy on the jetpack, maybe just make a thruster pack/boots that lets him dash or highjump, but either way he should either be on overwatch on a rooftop or going gun-fu in the fight, they already made half his potential playstyle in the Red Hood DLC. King Shark: short range - often has a minigun but i think he should be full melee here for variety, let him just toss enemies around, for this version of King Shark it seems like it's classic smart guy with super strength, giving him a gun just seems boring. Captain Boomerang: short range, bordering on mid range - Boomerangs, shocking i know, throw them or wield one in each hand like knives, basically just green arrow but with boomerangs, teleport boomerang is a good and unique travel method for him. These aren't even very original ideas, but at least every character isn't just flying around while shooting, honestly Gotham Knights is way closer to what i thought this game would be like.

One of the core reasons for Always Online is to negate users from modding the game. Now, you could also say that it's to inject DENUVO and prevent sailing the high seas, until certain individuals strike it rich, and uncover some buried treasure. One of these two reasons, usually both, is also accompanied by Live-Service bullshit such as Battle-Pass and in-game cosmetic shop, or selling boosters. The DENUVO issue will be far more detrimental than the Live Service as that particular DRM often serves up performance issues. That's why sailing the high seas, and bypassing DENUVO will often be the definitive way to play the game.

I think a lot of them do it for piracy prevention. BUT if it were me I would be upfront and tell the community "we are going to make this a live service game for the first year in order to protect our ip and insure we can deliver a product we think our customers are expecting of us, once 12 months goes by and we are confident the intial player base has gotten all they could out of our game then we will turn off the live service and allow the free use of mods" I think something liek that would go a long way with the community.

If you are commuting/traveling and want to play the game on the go, you won't be able too. Rocksteady being greedy isn’t new and their quality of content dropped 9 years ago. You all were too busy fan boying to notice or care but Arkham Knight was an absolutely horrible game. I remember spending so much money on the DLCs for preorder, getting up sold at a GAME store and spending about 85-90 on it. It was ultimately skins that I didn’t really care about. Stories that lasted 10 mins, that weren’t worth investing in. Challenge maps… that no one really cares about. Then the actual game… completely derailing all that was established in Arkham city, AN AMAZING GAME with GREAT DLCs. Then Knight comes out, we were lied to about the plot and the plot we expected didn’t happen. All this hope and expectations for an incredible final chapter… and what did we get? Something that sold out to a broader audience that left a ridiculously mixed reception. We ended up having no real continuity and any continuity was completely lack lustre. There was more holes in the plot than a cheese grater. The DLCs bar the batgirl one absolutely sucked balls, a 1 minute cutscene with a character skin challenge map, marketed as a sort of side mission… horrible. The Riddler race way bs, the bat tank, the militia that Arkham knight aquired how exactly? The unforgivably boring side missions that lasted about 10 minutes each if even. Even character designs were uncreative and watered down- Harley Quinn lost all her character development from her City DLC and gothic look. She went back to her old style for an unexplained reason… Who wanted the joker in this game? No one, the joker was dead they just wanted to sell this game. They literally lied to us about Jason Todd because they got caught out in their lack of creativity and originality. It was a boring mess full of action that lacked soul and depth. And this suicide squad game is no different, you all should have appreciated what we got with Arkham Origins at the time, a studio that actually did everything right ❤

Either a single player Batman Arkham type game where it’s just a very dark and gritty play through of what happens in the book, or a Marvels Avengers type deal. I’d love to just play through the plot of Watchmen in the streets of NYC in that Watchmen setting, following the plot of Watchmen like a good murder mystery, and maybe have side missions where he investigates other stuff. Hey asmon. Late comment but the reason Harley isn't as psycho anymore is cause years back even before all the PC stuff in media started happening, she was put into a relationship with Poison Ivy. Wasn't really a romantic relationship but partners in crime. Fans loved the series and a fan theory became popular that Harley was secretly dating ivy. DC decided to make it happen and those comics were actually pretty good and sold well. It wasn't pushing an agenda. But the stories started to show Harley as more than a side kick and being she had a pHD, she was actually very intelligent. They also started doing one offs of how she came up with some of the jokers ideas or even just made a suggestion and joker ran with it as his own. This is around the time Harley became more popular and started to get her own spin offs and series in comics. Then Margot Robbie made her more popular and that is when we started getting a more emotionally damaged rather than psycho Harley. Just a little comic nerd lore. But in the comics she is getting I feel a better treatment of balancing her as her own character now but is still very mentally unstable. Her run in Injustice and Batman Inc do her justice showing her as that type of character

I'm from a country which probably 5% of people can buy a AAA game so I don't really matter but outside of countries like mine which are so poor there are still countries where people have connection issues and when players with these kind of issues want to buy a SINGLE player game I don't think online connectivity is a main motivator.🤦‍♂️

Been skeptical about this game since it's announcement, only been giving it a benefit of the doubt because of Rocksteady and how much i loved the Arkham series. But the closer we get to it's release the more it looks like it's going to be a disappointment.

It’s not about a game taking risk, it’s about industry normalization and target audience, every single kid that is growing up playing games like Fortnite and this, will not see a single problem in buying things like battle passes and other things that takes real money to obtain in a game, the 90's and early 2000’s people will not see things getting better because of that fact, things will only get worse when it comes to “surprise mechanics”

I swear video games have been in a steady decline for quite some time now. I honestly can't remember the last time I was excited for a game to come out, simply because everything is shrouded in stupid microtransactions that do nothing for the game, but farm the players for their money. Even WoW does this. Sure you can spend hours, even days to farm certain cool mounts, OR you could just bust out your credit card to get one from the store that looks 10x better, for literally zero effort. It just cheapens the overall experience of the game

Also like most suicide squad folks do use guns. I mean Harley does have her hammer and bat but uses guns a lot. Deadshot is a sniper. Capt boomerang should be using boomerangs, but really they all use guns outside of like killer croc

Man I’m gonna be honest. I love Asmon, but my guy never gives Sony any respect for being the leaders in the Single Player AAA genre. They single-handedly showed the entire industry that yes, single player games are still relevant and can make a lot of money when they released God of War (2018). A time when a lot of people thought the genre was on its death bed. Think he needs to play the new God of War games and Ghost of Tsushima.

This game is gonna have a big boom on release then nose dive population and price wise after the first 2-3 weeks. If this game was a single player like the Arkham games it might be more memorable or seen in a positive light. The games I’ve been looking forward to is Metroid prime, dead space remake, and the new breath of the wild all single player games cause I know there’s gonna be plenty of fun and no crappy monetization aspects

The only potential interesting thing in this game is the story, and that is never a good sign, because then why should i spend my $70 when i can just wait for a cutscene compilation to be uploaded to KZbin? It's sad how this has me even questioning what impact this will have on the fact that this game contains Kevin Conroy's last performance as Batman - like, are they going to respect his legacy as the character, or have the greedy studio made the developers create a Batman: TAS weapon skin pack for $20 because the execs want to milk his legacy?

They can't let you have offline characters, because most people start offline, and you might get invested in that character. Then needing to start over from zero in online becomes a barrier to entry for the part of the game they actually want you to play.

It’s obviously so they can push all of their premium currencies and battle passes and constantly bombard you with advertisements. Having the game online also prevents a modding community from forming so people won’t be able to freely download content that’s ten times better then rock steady’s.

I was sceptical at first because I don't give a shit about the suicide squad or fucking Harley Quinn, but it could have been good. Now it's clear that it's not for me in any way. Never cared about looter shooters and this one won't be changing that. And that is OK. I just didn't expect Rocksteady to go this route after their Arkham trilogy.

Same here studios think villains are cool because of deadpool and kind of thanos but deadpool was a unique case (but worse out his main stream welcome with me a while back) and thanos had a great foundation ppl like Harley because of the sexualization not because she’s cool also live service games aren’t cool and going from Arkham combat to looter shooter might even be the worst crime of all…and that’s just to start

Why couldn't they do this game a similar way like kakarot, with switching characters on the fly and having unique mechanics for each, harley being more nimble and momentum based with her pistol, hammer and hyenas. King shark with his melee tank and teeth build. Boomerang being a rush down character with his speedy rangs and movement. And Deadshot being the more ariel, mobile and gunner of the crew?

It seems a lot of triple-A game developers want nothing more than to drag their games out longer than they should. Having an end game in a singleplayer game isn't always bad, however, I think that a good game dev team will know when the road should end. Not all game experiences should have to have this check list to ensure players remain active in said game. Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of recent games are bent on this ideology that "for a game to be good, it must be grindy, endless entertainment, and will make you play for hours". Games for example with good singleplayer: Elden Ring (NG+ / DLC however, the game does end) Arkham Series (Singleplayer experience with an ending, +DLC) Atomic Heart Borderlands Series (+DLC, however there is a limited amount of content) Games in question that received badly (I can only think of one at the moment but feel free to add) Arkham Knights ((BTW this is purely my opinion and criticism))

As someone that used to enjoy online games I still wonder if it's been bad for gaming overall. With the exception of ffxiv, most of them don't have a decent, cohesive narrative and think of all the singleplayer games that weren't made to focus on multiplayer games instead, such as Anthem. This is why I have a knee jerk reaction when someone mentions a singleplayer looks so good that it should have multiplayer, too, like when Asmon said so before Hogwarts released. Not only do I want to escape multiplayer games, mostly because I'm too old to put up with jerks online with my free time, but also the monetization behind them. I'd say the only positive to them is that Bioware has been through a lot over the years, and maybe Dragon Age Dreadwolf will be the result of fixing their problems. Oh yeah, and I still have good friends I made from MMOs, but most of them gave up on multiplayer games, too, or just play those games with each other.
