I asked my grandmother how much of this personified her experience in the 50's. My grandfather, who was sitting nearby, said "If I showed up late to dinner, she tore me a new one, so I don't know what you're talking about." My grandmother said "The speed limit says you have to go 55, but that doesn't mean everyone does. I never waited on your papa hand and foot, but we certainly took care of the home while they took care of us [blows a kiss at my papa]."

The make dinner thing goes both ways for me and my girlfriend. I work night shift and she works a normal shift, so she almost always makes my lunch alongside dinner she's making for herself, but I'll almost always make her breakfast when I get home before I go to sleep in the morning cause I have time when she's getting ready. It's a good system.

Some of this advice isn't bad. If you're home and SO comes home from work don't jump on SO with complaints and problems as soon as they walk in the door. If you and SO have a mutually agreeable arrangement where you work outside the home and SO manages the household, then it's totally fair for SO to have a delicious meal ready on time. On the other hand, SO shouldn't have to put up with unwanted sexual acts or go to sleep after you and get up before you.

It's sad how people are arguing in the comments over this topic. Sure, if the man provides money to his wife/family, works hard all day, it's only fair if the woman takes care of the house and maybe cooks something. The same could be said if the roles were switched. But the real issue is that men's interests were valued more than women's. Like for example how it was said not to bore your husband with your hobbies, or to not object or protest against anything he wants to do in the bedroom, to just go with it even if you don't want to. That was the real problem, not the ''husband works and provides money, wife cooks and cleans the house'' thing.
@sabrinaguzman62016 жыл бұрын

Lack of choices were the problem. Most women couldn't just choose to work. You'd have to rely heavily on men to provide so yes, the gender roles were also wrong and very restrictive. Not every woman wants to stay home and look after her adult husband when he gets home.

@@j5892000+ Sexism is the belittling or superiority of ome gender over another. It is obviously just a role-play, but you'd be surprised to find that many people were actually like this in the 40s and 50s. And no, sexism can be directed towards men aswell, and a man/woman can be sexist towards their own gender also.

@@mlavigne71 That... are you okay? You took my comment, which was supposed to be funny, a bit too seriously. I didn't post a whole paragraph on how if the men died the women, who weren't allowed to work, would be in deep shit. Or other such trivial things from a past neither of us have experienced. It is truth, that men and women suffered greatly then. Neither had a choice on what to do, they had parts to play. Even if that time was difficult it is no different from now. Everyone is still suffering, just with different problems. And in reality, it barely is different. We all are just going from one extreme to another. Point is, this comment was supposed to be for dry comedic purposes. I don't know why you took it so seriously, when I never even specified anything. It seems you have other frustrations going on in your life, and I in all honesty wish for the best on those. 🙏 Stay safe.

loathe as I am to reply to someone fishing for replies, I can't resist asking...who is telling us we need 3rd world populations to 'replace us'? Literally never heard that before. Considering the text of this video as traditional gender roles, I also struggle to see how it is superior to the more equal terms in modern 1st world society. At the most basic, how is it less productive for a society to not have half its population aiming to dedicate themselves to not contributing anything to the national workforce?
@bigbadbootydaddy03887 жыл бұрын
Ally Mayson its neither superior nor non-superior. It's that women are the child bearers and that has been their traditional "labor" while men labor with their hands. Unfortunately most "men" haven't been masculine enough to support a wife and family in this way for ages. This term I use 'masculine' has been used so loosely everyone thinks I'm talking about physicality or toughness but its much more than that. Its the ability to provide a well balanced life for the individuals under their supervision; as I said a true example of this on a societal scale will be only visible on display at museums unfortunately.

@@Amber-sc9jp I think they were more referring to the fact that, although this was the standard set for women, it's unlikely that every household was actually like this. Whilst women would be told that this is how they SHOULD behave, it's likely that standard was not met by some women. Because as OP said, humans are humans.
