During WW2 the military controlled the real executive power in the Japanese government under Tojo. Hirohito played a similar role to that of the current Queen of England, who is mostly a cultural figurehead (Parliament and representative government do the actual governing). So in the 40's the U.S. could replace the authoritarian military branch of the Japanese government with a democratic one while keeping the Emperor in power since his authority was already so limited.

I professionalize in History, all of my family is good in it. But basically, with the part of the video where you were confused about keeping the Emperor in power I might have a good explanation. For one, throughout history 'Monarchies' have changed over time very gradually. It wen't from Absolute Monarchies ( around the crusade era and prior.), Constitutional Monarchies ( around the late 1800's and mostly ended by 1918 ) and Parliamentary Monarchy which are a lot of modern day monarchies, where the King or Queen, or royal family play as figureheads. Japan being an Imperial force in WWII, past 1918...mean't that their political structure had to be kept strict or else it would have been easy for their government structure to collapse. Remaining Monarchies were very weak by WWII, especially the Japanese empire; who had participated in the Boxer Rebellion, WWI, and eventually WWII. But by the time they got into WWII they were not as strong as they previously where, that is why they got mad when America cut off oil supplies to Japan, because Japan needed the resources to survive as a country. After Japan had 'surrendered' they kept Hirohito in power because Hirohito was more or less powerless and ashamed of his defeat. Here is what Hirohito signed to: " The authority of the Emperor and the Japanese Government to rule the state shall be subject to the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers who will take such steps as he deems proper to effectuate these terms of surrender. Signed at Tokyo Bay, Japan at 0904 I on the second day of September 1945. " Hirohito was basically involved in a Parliamentary Monarchy; he was a figure head, he had power but he didn't have as much authority as he used to, because he was being watched by the Ally forces like the allies did Germany after WWII. hoped that helped.

Oh and a few whisky books as well including Japanese whisky. I doubt you have a kindle or something? Books are better I think. Not staring at a screen for a long time.

Hi Tiffany! Hope you're doing well! Love your hair btw, haha. You make history very interesting, much more than any of my history professors that I've had, haha! Thank you! Also, I definitely have to agree as a Korean--the Korean War definitely isn't over yet. I'm sure you've heard that we were about to go to war not too long ago and everyone was in a state of alert...thankfully the crisis was averted (for now) but yeah...you're very right, it's still not over unfortunately. Thank you for uploading videos despite your busy school schedule! I personally LOVED the writing part in the last video, thank you for always mixing it up so that everyone gets a bit of everything ;p Take care!
