anybody else miss when the back of books actually had the summary of the book instead of reviews?

taijah arce I think it depends on the book, but I’ve also noticed that. A lot of the time hard covers have reviews on the back, but they still have a summary in the inside cover. I really hate when paperbacks have reviews on the back though because then there’s nowhere to put the summary lol (but sometimes they put the summary on top and the reviews underneath which is fine).

@@Promthanius there really arent enough thin paperback nonfiction books with matte finishes, or glossy for that matter. they tend to be 1. too thick, 2. dimensions make them more like cheap paperback novels instead of being wide and spacious, 3. glossy ones literally lose gloss to fast. 4. they dobt tend to stay open while reading. I love books I can open to a page and not worry about the book closing on me. *technical* breakdowns of subjects as the *pop-sci* level, e.x. "learn xyz / subject 101" are fantastic.

I get you! Sit down to research books that interest you, choose one (or five!) to get your hands on, keep it in a visible place that you reach for often and see if you can use some of that “mindless scrolling” time to read instead. It’s less intense than setting yourself a goal of reading for X amount of time or X pages a day if you want to get into it ✨ 📖

So here it is: 2:27 “The Princess Bride” by William Goldman 5:58 “Howl’s Moving Castle” by Diana Wynne Jones 8:46 “The Martian” by Andy Weir ( 9:46 “The Egg,” a short story by Andy Weir) 12:14 “The Poisonwood Bible” by Barbara Kingsolver 14:28 “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” by J.R.R. Tolkien (and anecdotally, the entire series minus “The Hobbit”-but skip the songs) 18:46 “East of Eden” by John Steinbeck ( 20:58 “Of Mice and Men” and “Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck) 21:23 “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini ( 21:41 “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini is her favorite book by this author) 23:08 “The Song of Achilles” by Madeline Miller 25:44 “The Bean Trees” by Barbara Kingsolver 27:42 “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind” by Yuval Noah Harari

I read so much as a kid. In middle school I read like all the Stephen King books (which maybe I shouldn't have as they're very adult). I think being a megareader sort of burnt me out. In college I was an English Lit major but ended up not finishing because it took a lot of the joy of reading out of it, having to *analyze* everything. I think it kind of broke my brain, I haven't read much in the decade+ since then! The series I guess closest to my heart are His Dark Materials and Anne of Green Gables, but I like kind of "misfit" books the most, like Chuck Palahniuk and Bret Easton Ellis, that was my post-college reading. Clive Barker is super underrated. Anyway, lovely vid, the rain sounds are subtle, page turning is nice when it's contextual (as opposed to just "30 MINUTES PAGE TURNING SOUNDS"), and of course the sounds and whispering are top-notch. Thanks, happy midsummer! (It's a thing here)

I was a STEM major so luckily reading has always stayed an escape for me. I can definitely see how constantly having reading for homework would burn you out. But yeah, I LOVE His Dark Materials and I’ve been meaning to check out Anne of Green Gables! Thank you for such a nice comment, happy midsummer 🌞

Similar experience, with getting a degree in English killing my desire to read for a full decade. The thing that finally snapped me out of it was listening to a radio program on a lazy summer evening about "The Wind in the Willows," which I'd never read as a kid (see archive.ttbook.org/book/annie-gauger-wind-willows). I decided to pick it up, and while it didn't become a favorite, suddenly I was a reader again. That said, a line from "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" sums up my lifetime experience: "Reading good books ruins you for enjoying bad books."

Love this sort of crossover between ASMR and Booktube -- two of my favorite sub-communities on this platform. Nessa's Pet Shøps you’re referring to visuals. internal monologue and emotion aren’t portrayed as strongly in film because you have to rely on dialogue and facial expression. not to mention background information from books usually doesn’t make the cut for a movie since the producers are on a budget, even though the events are considerably vital to characterization. if it starts as a book, then it will always be a more thorough version of the story because that’s the original source

Omg when KZbin recommendations actually work lol, this is great, your style and tone reminds me so much of Ashley Marie Asmr! Insta sub. I can’t tell you how much I like Asmrtists that don’t needlessly sexualize any of their content. *Please keep it up 😌😴

Yaaaaaaassss! You hinted at a book turning video a few weeks ago and its here! This was so good, Sarah. Thank you! If you’re looking for something new, try the book “Wool” by Hugh Howey. It’s a 3 book series, followed by “Shift” and “Dust” and the world Howey creates is so descriptive and authentic. It wastes no time hooking you and I couldn’t put it down.

You talking about the audiobook songs brought back so many memories. Such an Ole voice, and I would tried to listen, but had to skip because they were so long and so often.

This is the first video of yours I've seen and I already subscribed. I really hope you do more books! I want fantasy recs because I'm just now getting into the genre. There has to be an ASMR way to show off Kindle books. Bring up the cover page, then turn it off while you talk about it and do tablet tapping and sticky fingers. Mmm, that sounds so great. I'm a very proud kindle reader and would love to see kindle ASMR! 🤞🥰

I called my local library, and when Howl's Moving Castle and The Song Of Achillies are available to check out they will drop an email to me. I may read A Thousand Splendid Suns again. It's been years since I read it. I have seen the movie The Martian so I won't read the book.
