Before I watch, I wanted to ask: have you done a lip product tour video? Because the colors I’ve seen on you look gorgeous but I wouldn’t know how to guess what brands or shades they are lol

Oh thank you!! Elliott's right, there's one here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/epzaaml7qrVprNk It's from two years ago but honestly all the colors/brands are still the same, I replace them as I run out. Black Honey by Clinique might be the only one that's not included. I don't think much about makeup so when I find something I like I just stick with it 🤷🏻‍♀️💜

I recommend the book “S.” It’s meant to appear like an old library book called the “Ship of Theseus.” But, within the margins characters are communicating with each other with penned comments. It’s also one big puzzle with tools in there to solve the hidden meanings within. Highly recommend, it’s super fun. Also, I have “Man and His Symbols too” haha. Great choice.

Wow, so happy to see a book video. Will have to check some of those out. I just finished Second Place by Rachel Cusk. Wow, very talented writer. I liked the first half of the book a lot. She really built the suspense of the artist coming and did such a nice job with introducing all the interesting characters, setting the beautiful scene, and the story just pulled me right along. Towards the middle, she got a little more in her head and a little overly philosophical for me, but then it picked up again and the ending was quite a surprise. She really got that quality of life not doing what you expect it to do and unfolding itself to you at its own pace and in its own time. My dad was actually a painter and a fairly successful one. The artist L reminded me a lot of him. My dad was very talented in his art but quite lacking in relationship skills and was often mean. He also had a very troubled childhood. Interesting to see the similarities there. Thank you for recommending this book. I'm really glad I read it and am looking forward to reading more of your recs! Love your earrings!

So glad you liked it! Also yes yes yes: "She really got that quality of life not doing what you expect it to do and unfolding itself to you at its own pace and in its own time." I love the way you phrased this, and I see this in the book too! A subject I find endlessly fascinating

A book i picked up recently is ‘lie with me’ by Philippe Besson. Its translated from French (i believe) and is gay literature that’s supposed to be about ‘passionate youth and the regrets of age’. Pretty sure it about Philippe’s first love so I’m incredibly excited to read it! Thanks again for a lovely video xx 🤍

Let's Talk About Love! One of the highlights of that whole series, although I admit I haven't kept up with it recently. It's such a thoughtful case study. The author would like to put the book in perspective though, recently tweeting (after her omission in Rolling Stone's greatest singers list) "It's not 1999 or even 2009 any more, and I think there is very very little remaining *active hostility to Céline among culturati, including 90% of professional critics. I'm not denying that her general aesthetic zone still can tend to be neglected, forgotten, or patronized. But let's not turn back the clock - in the past five or six years she's much more been a media *darling, not an object of scorn."

Great little stash here! I really enjoyed Let's Talk About Love, although I found the critic's takes/casual remarks on certain things like race felt outdated. Could use some light edits for our time. But I think about it a lot! I would love to do a book/film club pairing it with the Kenny G doc you've also recommended on this channel. Oh, and speaking of which, I wanted to thank you for recommending Mrs. March back in the fall. My partner and I had a blast reading it and added it to our book club lineup (where the vibe is "at least slightly weird and woman-authored").

Wow, The Unreality of Memory sounds very interesting! And I'd never heard of the 33 1/3 series, but I'm super curious now. And wow I keep hearing about Homesick for Another World. Gonna have to get to that one sooooon. I just finished a comic that I got for the holidays (truly I do not know and maybe don't want to know why this made them think of me), "Buddy Does Jersey", which is extremely a Fantagraphics comic from the 90s (kind of derogatory). A really interesting historical artifact though, even if it was a bit of a yikes at times (90s alt-comics!!). I'm stillllll slowly making my way through The Savage Detectives. And about to pick up (and see if I can handle) Cartas de Amor by Pablo Neruda, which a dear friend of mine got me while abroad.

@@MauveASMR I've never been a *huge* graphic novel & comics person, but I've been reading them a long time. In college I took a lit class on Graphic Novels that I *loved* that really affected the way I read and think about them. The first book in the course was McCloud's Understanding Comics which lowkey blew my mind and I still think about regularly to this day. Over the holidays I gave it to my mom to read and she thought it was so interesting that she immediately gave it to someone else to read. (I *super* recommend it if you're interested in the way media works!)

I’m just getting to watch this, so it may be too late to help, but I’ll try anyway. I understand why you might not like the title of The Unreality of Memory, but as someone whose research focus is in human memory, I love that the author seems to be bringing attention to the fallibility of it. Though, I haven’t read the book, so maybe I’m giving too much credit. However, the description you gave sounds as though the focus is on the malleability of our memories, which makes the title frustratingly accurate. Memory does not necessarily equal reality.
@MauveASMR
@MauveASMR Жыл бұрын
It's a bit about fallibility but really more about, quite literally, the lack of reality of memories, the inability to put them in place and time or return to them-- so the title is accurate but conceptually/sonically totally fails to grab me. But it sounds like it grabs you a bit, based on your research background at least, and that's great! Other people other tastes :)
