I feel you! I work in a book store so I get a small discount. Literally after almost every shift I come home with a book which means I have a huge pile on my bedside table of books I need to read it’s so bad (but so good ughh)

I’ve never wanted so badly to simultaneously sleep and read. Each recommendation is an intriguing option; I love how you describe the books. Also, I admire that in your busy life you still find / make time to read and explore new literature. 📚

The Wild Laughter's author's name can be pronounced a few different ways, which is the norm for irish names as there are three distinct dialects of Irish. The author herself pronounces is Key-Lin (keylinn, not kEY-linn) though other people could say Kay-linn or i would have thought it was Qway-lin like Caoimhe (Qwee-vah) but with a slight glottal stop on the C. Sorry this is so long an explanation I'm just very passionate about irish names :D good woman yerself for givin it a go!

The Celtic Tiger was a phenomenon in the Republic of Ireland, and yeah it was several years of a really booming economy, that ended in 2008. The Celtic Tiger never touched Northern Ireland, which is the bit that experienced the Troubles. You have to do a video pronouncing Irish names :) The meanings of the girls names in particular are often really beautiful.

Technically (Hi! I'm THAT GUY! :) ) a 'novel' starts at 40,000 words, so it's possible it's just a really short novel. Novellas typically run 10,000 to 40,000. (Novelettes are shorter, then short stories, then flash fiction, then drabbles, going down in size each time.)

Had to google Milkman to see if if was about the same Troubles I was thinking of and was surprised to discover it was. I don't think I've ever heard someone from the US refer to it so casually, like you knew people would know what you meant, if that makes sense? That statement probably sounds super ignorant, but it's really hard to know how well-known certain things are in other countries when you've grown up with them. I'm lucky enough to have missed the conflict (though the Good Friday Agreement was only signed several years after I was born which is wack), but the effects are still so apparent, especially up the North. Sorry for the rambly comment, it's just really unusual to hear non-Irish people mention the Troubles 😅
@MegaMagicGoat3 жыл бұрын
Oh also, Caoilinn is pronounced Kwee-lin or Kway-lin or sometimes Kee-lin depending on dialect, and the period of the Celtic Tiger ended in 2007/2008 leading to a big ol' recession 🐯
@MauveASMR3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the Troubles aren't studied in the US and thus not really known by those who weren't alive when it was going on, which is part of the reason I'm always eager to learn more about it!
