I'm 51 and I only care moderately about keeping up with "Yung trendz" but I like to know what things mean when they appear in a sentence even if I internally weep about the slow death of proper grammar. I'm all for efficiency in language, but I also dread we're heading for monosyllabic communication that could be a few steps from clubbing each other with modern sticks and rocks. 😬 Sorry for the ramble.... Thank you for the definition. I appreciate your response to my puzzling encounter with the ever changing words that routinely go over my head. Rizzed was definitely one. 👍🙂 I've noticed a few words lately that are derived from single syllables from the middle of a longer word. I can add rizzed to that list. If I were keeping one.

@@PluckySmurf Yeah, the trend towards shortening words worries me as well and your ramble was well justified. English (just like my first language German) is a very expressive low-context language, meaning as long as it is used properly, misunderstandings are easily avoided. I studied Japanese for a few years and eventually stopped, as the high-context character really bothered me, especially when talking to younger people (Japanese has the same trend for abbreviations). Unless you know who said something where regarding what, a normal Japanese sentence could have several meanings. And all the homophones ... it figuratively killed me. By the way, the issue that bugs me way more than the one syllable words is that the word "figuratively" has almost vanished while "literally" is now used for everything. Whenever I hear something like "Wow, that bro literally punched the other guy to the moon, man!" I could cry. Tried a few times to explain that this is not how it is used, but since young people do everything "ironically" nowadays, they claim to use literally hyperbolically... which is honestly one of the dumbest things I have heard in a while. That would defeat the entire purpose of the word. I guess it now simply is a synonym for totally and another very unique tool has been erased from the english language.
