I had a situation like this, taking a referral from my generalist doctor to a cardiologist. The cardiologist couldn't read the referral and just tried to guess what sort of tests to run as I couldn't remember (took 6 months to get the appointment). I went back to my doctor to discuss the results and he just said "this isn't the right test! go back" after I had already spent 100 on the cardiologist appointment (and still had to spend 25 for the consultation to discuss the results). I normally have great respect for doctors and the medical field, but on that day I genuinely felt like I was being scammed by a gang of con artists on the street.
