ASMR Ear-to-Ear Whisper: MTG "Fate Reforged" Fat Pack

It's been a while since my last Magic video, so it's with great pleasure that I give you a Fate Reforged fat pack unboxing! Triggers include ear-to-ear whispering, tapping, crinkling, and card shuffling. No spoilers or anything, but I pull a pretty cool card in the second pack ;). Enjoy!
---- What's ASMR, and why am I whispering? ----
I whisper in my videos because they're intended to trigger a sensation known as ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response). ASMR is a very specific feeling that some people experience when they hear certain soft sounds, like whispering and tapping, or see certain visuals, like deliberate hand motions. It's often described as a pleasant tingling in the head and neck, accompanied by a sense of calmness and mild euphoria. Many people watch ASMR videos to help them relax or fall asleep. Thanks for helping others by calming them down. You seem like a pretty optimistic guy. I especially enjoy your gaming content, which I attempt to do as well as you. Do you go through anxiety, ASMRnerd? Many in the ASMR community do, and I just want to know how you overcome it.

I find helping others to be very rewarding. It's the reason I started this channel, and the reason it's still going strong two years later. I think optimism is valuable, though I consider myself more of a realist. I've had people call me grounded, which I take as a compliment. I'm really glad you enjoy my gaming content! I've noticed you comment on a few of my videos now, and I keep meaning to check out your channel. I'll try to do so soon. It's very humbling that people consider me a role model for their own channels. I regularly receive comments from people telling me that my videos help them cope with anxiety, which is always gratifying to hear. I don't suffer from clinical anxiety, so I can't speak to that, but like anybody else, I sometimes experience stress from my job, my relationships, my life. Sometimes I get anxious about the future, or the past. I usually try to rationalize away the anxiety by convincing myself that these things aren't worth worrying about, that the time and energy I spend stressing can only hinder me. I tell my self that I'm *allowed* to *not* stress, that it's OK to relax about things. I don't know if that makes any sense, but it seems to work for me. I also obviously use ASMR as a "brain vacation", a time to let my mind empty and let the triggers just wash over me. It helps a lot. Lastly, gaming has always been an escape for me, a chance to be another place, live another life. Gaming helps me manage my stress. I don't know if any of that is useful or insightful for you, but I hope it helps.

Have watched this about four times now and always asleep in about 10 mins! Interesting to hear people call you grounded - I feel quite similar myself. Even in a literal sense, having the ground beneath my feet during a walk is a relaxing experience :)

The fat pack is a funny thing. It's not really any cheaper than just buying the boosters individually. However, you basically get the card box, deck boxes, die, and lands for free. Intro packs are good if you want some decent decks that are immediately playable with friends, and the boosters are a nice extra.

Hey ASMRNerd! I have several questions / requests for you. Small disclaimer, my requests / questions are a bit selfish as they ARE based on my personal preferences. ;) First off, are there any plans for a continuation of the Civilization 5 series? I greatly enjoyed that series being a fan of not only the Civ franchise but also the generally relaxing nature of those games. Furthermore, would you be up doing future MTG openings by hand? Ie. would you be willing to open the packs by pulling apart the plastic rather than using scissors? I don't know about anyone else, but I personally LOVE the sound that the card packaging makes as it's being opened. I really enjoyed the portion of the video where you play / fiddle with the empty packaging of the first pack. I actually frequently watch other box openings on the such just to listen to the sound of the packs being opened. Unfortunately, most pack opening youtubers try to open the packs as quickly as possible, rather than delicately as their goal isn't to relax the audience, but to show them what cards they pull. Anyways, great stuff as always! Hope you don't mind my long post! Keep it up!

Ifeno Haha most requests are based off personal preferences, so no need to apologize. I get a lot of requests to do another Civ 5 video, so it's definitely on my list. To your other point, I'll be doing a Dragons of Tarkir fat pack video soon-ish, and sure, I can open the packs by hand. I like the crinkly sounds the packs make too, I just started using the scissors for efficiency. I totally know what you mean though about people ripping the packs open fast in their rush to get to the cards, it kinda ruins the tingles.

Hey, I have never played magic or bought a pack before and I want get started by buying a decent set that will give me all the cards I need to get started. I live in Victoria as well, but I don't know where to go to buy magic cards and I don't know what I should be looking for. Any ideas?

Travis Shaffer Hi fellow Victorian! Cool that you're thinking of checking out MTG :) Yellowjacket Comics downtown on Johnson is a great place to go for cards. The guys there are knowledgeable, and if you tell them you're new and would like some tips for getting started, they'll be happy to help you out. Since you've never played before, I'd recommend grabbing a friend and buying a pair of Intro Packs. Each intro pack costs about $10, and comes with a complete, game-ready deck and a pair of booster packs. There's usually a variety to choose from the latest couple of sets. Just pick one that you think sounds awesome and play a few games! They come with a rules insert too, to help you out.
