I’m retired 5 years now. Certified Optician for 35 years. I found this presentation refreshing. Brought back memories of when I first started. I apprenticed for 4 years with an older Optician. The last 10-15 years I felt like I was working with salespeople only. They had no clue how a frame was supposed to fit. Nor how optics work. I ended up working with my own patients and referrals, and fixing other Opticians mistakes on the regular. I miss my patients. I certainly don’t miss the ineptitude of current American Optician’s or the Corporate consolidation of product availability. Thank you for posting your video. It has made my day.✌️

Is it common in (I'm assuming) the UK to have custom frames made? In the US you just have to pick off a rack of 1000% marked up frames and if you're lucky they'll adjust the pads for you.

Not many of the opticians do custom made frames but if you have any facial abnormalities a bespoke frame would be the best option but you would be more likely to get this from a small independent opticians

These measurements are used in the dispensing opticians final exams. They are not used at all opticians but some opticians do specialist dispensing and so use them on a regular basis👍

There is a sentence which the client uses which many misheard the first time. He tells the salesman: "Hello I am looking for a navy suit for work." People mishear (since his voice is low too) it "Hello I am looking for a navy suit for war!". That's a running gag by now 🙂

I never did this when I got my first pair of glasses. Checked the eyesight and saw a pair of frames that fit, then it was done. Not like he's doing here. I've had glasses since I was about 5-6 years old and I'm 54 years old now and have replaced a few glasses during that time. So I've never been involved in a survey like this

Sometimes we have to make a new pair of glasses from a style the patient likes but it needs to be made to fit the patient.this is an expensive way to get your glasses but you know you will be happy with them👍🏼
