As someone diagnosed with severe OCD, I appreciate you giving people an ACTUAL view as to where it’s not actually “neatness” and stuff. I was at a point where I was pulled from school because I couldn’t get through one class without intrusive thoughts. Mine is intrusive thoughts that every smell is going to kill me, checking things, controlling, hoarding, morality, contamination, etc. it affects me daily, and this made me feel very validated. Of course there’s a lot more to my OCD that I’m not speaking about, but it was validating that you explained it properly. Everyone is different when it comes to OCD, so it can be tricky to please veryone with OCD. However, it was soothing because sometimes I get very uncomfortable when things don’t line up the way that they should, and I always have to repeat things on both sides (for example tapping on a table with both hands). A reminder for folks that OCD is not just being a neat freak. You’re not “quirky” for saying “you’re so ocd.” It’s a horrible stereotype that is really harmful to the community. Thank you for this!

my mom is self diagnosed (by me and our family) with ocd. Not trying to offend you guys, but I guess this is just an escape for me to talk about this. She's obcessed by things in our home, like always messing around things like tables, chairs, tv commands, pillows in the rights place... usually something about dressings and other things in home. And I, someone who doesn't have this disorder, usually get really irritated with her and it always kills our envirment there. It was really rare the times where I just talk with her and tried to understand, but now I'll try to be more pacient.

I’m aware that everyone can have different ways that OCD affects them but I thought I would share my personal experience. For me it’s always been having to do things a certain amount of times and things having to be like that or else I would have to redo it. These thoughts are impossible to push out of my head, and make day to day things a lot harder. Over the years I’ve been able to get better at eliminating these thoughts and actions, but they still will show up, especially with anxiety. Anyways, I really appreciate that jojo made a video where he explains what OCD is and doesn’t just go at the stereotypes of it like I’ve seen so many people do. Thank you for this video!

I don’t know if I have ocd, I do have impulsive thoughts that disturb me but I’ve learned to tune it out. I do have anxiety as well. But I feel like mine can’t be ocd since I’d have random “flare ups” like things that I get obsessed doing perfectly or ritually from time to time (not an ongoing, which I feel like ocd is chronic). One of few examples are, as a kid I used to take 20 mins rewriting my name neatly because if it wasn’t I’d think I’d fail a test and the rest of my day would be ruined. Or how I’d avoid using certain letters and opt to writing them in a weird way that didn’t bother me. Or how I’d rewrite my entire notes if it didn’t look right after rereading it. Idk if it’s just perfectionism or superstition. If someone has an somewhat of answer please let me know.
@abyss57253 жыл бұрын
@@judyriver901 I would have to also rewrite stuff or it wouldn’t feel right and I would think about it forever until i did it. Another minor thing is at PE I would always put my bag on the left side of my locker and if I didn’t I thought something would go wrong. Or if i’m doing push-ups I say i’m gonna do 15 than I feel like i have to do 17 than 18 than 20 and another annoying thing that happens is if I bump my Right elbow on something I have to bump my left elbow or it doesn’t feel right. This is kinda dumb but Even in video games, my character is holding the gun on the right side of the screen and it makes me feel really weird and uneven for some reason

Some things that I do because of my OCD: - Checking that the door is locked constantly before I can get sleep. - Count the steps I’m taking to make sure that they’re even on both legs. - Ignore texts out of fear that responding would lead to something bad happening. - Text my mom to make sure everything is okay before I go downstairs or leave my room. - Wait to go to bed till the clock is an even number, the hour and the minutes have to be even. - When a drink leaves a water ring on a table I have to make the water inside the ring filled in. - If I’m ever in the car with someone else driving, my hand stays on the car door near the handle. - I stay up all night out often out of fear that something bad will happen if I sleep at night. - Constantly asking my friends if they have any problems with me or are mad at me. - If I hit my hand on a table, I purposefully hit my other hand as hard or as soft I did with the other. These are just some of the things I do regularly as examples of compulsions from obsessive thoughts. Also my animal crossing houses don’t line up and it actually pains me to see.

There's plenty of room for different experiences with OCD here, let's try to not gatekeep what are very legitimate obsessive experiences for some folks with OCD just because we don't experience the same compulsions. Jojo did a great job with what he could do - he can't cater to every compulsion or intrusive thought, but if this helps other folks with OCD we should appreciate that. There was no stereotyping in the video, and even though he didn't dwell on all of the possible experiences associated with OCD Jojo still covered the topic well.

I didnt know that could be a symptom, so thank you for the knowledge. I don't have diagnosed OCD nor do I think I would be diagnosed if tested, but I do have some tendencies and actions most likely caused by my anxiety that can also be equated with OCD, and I do tend to collect things and hide them as well. Just the other day I realized the extent to this as I cleaned out my drawer of jars and candles, which I dont really use, nor am I allowed to (burn candles). It's a very impulsive process when buying these things but I refuse to get rid of them, and instead reorganize them over and over again. I typically try to rationalize my behavior and find myself having to justify my actions to myself, even when it's as simple as making a legal right hand turn on a red light.

You could just have sensory stimuli issues, I have them too. They’re where you can sometimes be overwhelmed by some stimuli; hearing, touch, sometimes even sight. Some examples of this are- when you walk on the sidewalk: cracks are avoided or you have to walk on the crack the same way on each foot. Or, you hear something in an ear and have the feeling of needing to replicate it in the other. This is commonly confused with OCD, as they both come of as perfectionism, however the difference is that in OCD; it is between doing the compulsion or something bad will happen, in Sensory Disorders; it is just the need to make something that feels wrong- to feel right, almost like an itch.

This is true, I appreciate you writing this comment. I think a lot of people get confused with OCD and perfectionism. The picture people get of OCD is being overly clean and tidy. But in reality the condition is met with monotonous routines that suck the joy out of living. Ruminations, checking, intrusive thoughts, and distress are quite common with the disorder. It always pains me to see when people joke around with the condition and don't fully understand the real pains that come along with it. I've suffered from OCD since I was 12. I just want to give a little bit of insight. My OCD is pretty severe. I used to be an extreme germaphobe and would go to very extreme measures to keep myself clean, such as spraying Lysol on myself when I came home (because I thought that the public air was contaminated) and washing my hands and body to the point that my skin would peel off. Nowadays, my OCD is based on my fear of people contaminating my character. I feel very anxious because I feel like people always try to turn me into a person that I've always hated or strived to not become. When your obsessions aren't addressed, you can break down into mild discomfort or even psychosis and suicidal/violent issues. For the past 7 years my life has been controlled by OCD, as i have to constantly fight off triggers, intrusive thoughts, psychic breakdowns, as well as being hypervigilant of your surroundings. What people think ocd is: perfection and organization What it actually is: me scrubbing my hands for thrift minutes straight, constantly having to check things, fear of bad things if I do not do what my brain is telling me to do, randomly counting shit, need of evenness , constant need for reassurance, and literally driving myself insane. - these are a few examples I know it is different for everyone

I have really bad ocd and I wish it would just go away. Every single day I have to do something a certain amount of times before I’m happy. It get so bad to the point when I’m drinking water I have to swallow it a certain amount of times before stopping and I almost pass out. I have to flicker the lights on and off at least 4 to 20 times otherwise I feel like I’m gonna cry. It’s all even numbers for me so if somebody does something an odd number of times then I’mma cry. Theres this thing I do and a lot of other people with ocd do where you in your mind you tell yourself if you don’t do something a certain amount of times you’re gonna die or somebody in ur family is gonna get hurt. There’s so much more that I do but this is already a long enough message so yeah. This helped a lot and I loved it.

personally, ocd for me has to do with hygiene. like i'll randomly get thoughts like "what if my hands are dirty right now" or i have certain objects or things i can't touch and if i do, i have to wash my hands after. if i don't, i can't touch anything before i do. like i'll sit in the middle of a room and not touch anything. also showers are the worst. they can sometimes take me many hours. it's really stressful and makes every day difficult. i can't do anything without overthinking and then having panic attacks and it's exhausting. idk if anyone will read this, but i'm really anxious right now and just had to write something somewhere, so i chose here.

OCD isn’t a quirky obsession with symmetry. It is a crippling disorder often caused by severe anxiety and results in obscure obtrusive thoughts. For example, having to turn on a light switch multiple times or you feel as if something very bad will happen. But some people do have it on less extreme levels and you are also valid!

I had this 30-minute hand washing routine where I had to do certain movements, count to certain numbers, etc. until my hands “felt clean”. Even in the summer they were constantly cracked and bleeding. Luckily with exposure therapy and medication I rarely if ever have intrusive thoughts or compulsions today!

I know what it's like to have the hand washing one... My hands used to be cracked and bleeding when I was in high school, purely from washing them so much. I started using hand sanitizer with aloe vera which really helped with the lack of moisture. Just wanted to say, you're not alone ❤️

I too had to wash my hands very specifically: first wash the the soap 120 times and then my hands 3 times, and do this process 4 times in a row. It used to take me 10 minutes on average. As someone diagnosed with OCD there is so much misrepresentation and misinformation about what OCD is. Often people think more of the symptoms of OCPD (organization, rule following, timeliness, perfectionism) when they hear OCD. For me, OCD manifests as harm OCD and I perform checking compulsions to ensure I haven't hurt any one or will not hurt anyone. I have a false memory that causes me to doubt myself and replay moments over and over until I can be okay believing I didn't harm anyone. It can be very mild some days to completely debilitating other days. To everyone reading, please talk to a mental help professional if you notice any symptoms that you believe may be OCD and advocate for yourself because I was told I just had anxiety and depression for years and was never given a second thought. You know your thoughts better than anyone and you deserve proper treatment.

This is late, but if you do see this it would be nice to see an ASMR for people with autism. Soft sounds that aren't too harsh like slow/gentle tapping, flipping through cards so it makes the purr-like noise, brushing, pop-it toys, clicking. I find ASMR videos trigger the same stimming response I get when 'fidgeting', which calms me down, but things like hand sounds or over-abundant mouth sounds can sometimes stress me out. It'd be nice to have someone so understanding and willing to research do something like this!

Honestly, I think no video would ever fit the standards of someone with ocd, I’m definitely no expert but I believe there will always be something people with ocd will dislike, but that is not your fault jojo. It is just people’s opinion on different types of asmr. Very good job in explaining OCD. Keep doing your best, have a good day, and keep doing what you do!

He had an even number on the purple pad. I like odd numbers for that middle line. Like you said, everyone’s different!

Thanks for explaining. I was diagnosed with OCD (aggressiv/ violent one) a time ago and was so surprised that you made a vid. about it. You'r the best :)

I was diagnosed with OCD (professionally) when I was 12 but I have struggled with it for as long as I can remember. It took me longer to learn to read because every word I would spell backwards letter by letter in my head. The lack of written words really comforted me in this video. Thank you,Jojo.

I have OCD and have it really bad, and thank you for making this video and finally someone who actually understands what it probably. The ASMR is also great. Have a good day everyone

As someone with actual severe OCD, I rwally appreciate the beginning of the video. Sometimes it really sucks to hear people say they have it because they "like things organized" or stuff like that. Thank you Jojo, this was really nice :3

It is so importante to talk about the reality of OCD. It is not a opposition with straight lines. It’s real and can be a very large struggle in people’s every day lives.

Realising that I most likely have ocd has made me feel less alone, just a while ago my intrusive thoughts were taking over so much that I can't even sleep right now and it's just comforting to know I'm not alone
