As a latin american, the fact that almost ALL natlan charecters are white as a sheet of paper when they r supposed to be based on south american and african people is strange to me... im not saying that all latin americans are tan or something, but our native people aren´t white, specially with Ororon when he is based on, literally, a god from Yoruba religion, i find it very disrespectful, and as a tan person too i wish i could see a character being actually tan ┐(￣ヘ￣)┌. I hope that in the future they´ll be more diverse in terms of skin colors ☆(>ᴗ•)

3:39 Fun fact: Her tribe is both anemo and pyro (weird I know) As someone who's Mexican (and shares a name with Citlali but written as *Citlalli*) what bothers me isn't so much the mechanics (they're clunky for sure) but more so the tribes and how they're portrayed. Hoyo loves mixing and matching different cultures and sometimes it doesn't make sense or confuses people (ex. Xilonen is Mexican (with Aztec motifs) but her attire makes her look Brazilian), Kachina is based on the Pueblo people but is put into the same tribe as Xilonen. Ororon is supposed to be a Yoruba deity but is a bat from Mexico, Central America, and South America. I love seeing representations of Mexican, Indigenous, Nahuatl, etc. Still, personally, I wish Hoyo had just made a tribe for each region they wanted to portray like Aztecs, Mayas, Incas, Yoruba people, Polynesians, etc. Even the music and name differs greatly from the playable characters (from what we know Iansan's tribe might have Spanish music from the travail trailer). The technological advances are mentioned in the world quests, the civilization before Natlan was inhabited by dragons. It references conspiracy theories in the real world and how ancient Mesoamericans were supposedly "technologically advanced" but lost it after the Europeans arrived (aliens/Illuminati).

I think Hoyo’s mistake in all of this is to kind of confirming or rather indirectly telling us that they’re basing a region off of an IRL one. With them doing that, some of us can’t help but notice how they didn’t deliver on some things, etc… 😔 For the second part of your comment - I am getting a lot of that and I am thinking that it might just be me, having not completed the Archon quest yet and having not dived into the lore, who might be mistaken 😅 (we learn everyday!!)

I honestly don't agree with "if you don't have anything nice to say - don't say anything" in this particular situation at all. This saying makes sense when it comes to commenting on other people's businesses that have nothing to do with you in particular, because duh, being nice is free of charge so what's your problem, but here we are talking about a product on the market, that you, as a consumer, spend your time/money on, so you have the right to ask for a quality product in exchange for the effort you put into it. When it comes to some sort of product that makes money for it's creator, you, as someone who pays for it (or invests your time into it and spreads it among other people by making videos about the game) don't have to be "nice" or "understanding" - you are the consumer, and you don't enjoy something about the thing you get. That is constructive criticism, and it is always healthy to have for any type of product on the market. Overall I agree with you almost about everything, although it seems to only get worse every single time. The skin colour thing never really bothered me mainly because I understand that Chinese market is hoyo’s main target, and Chinese people hate tan due to historical reasons. That is a cultural thing, and while it’s sad and takes a lot out of creative process for making unique designs, I understand why it is like that. I also like the fact that Ororon is pale, because I feel like it makes sence for his tribe and theme of a bat (night animal) + his overall very dark clothes make a great contrast with light skin, however the characters like mualani (outdoors and water loving active girl) and mavuika (literally a sun’s child in her design, the personification of a flame) would look SO much better tanned. I also dislike natlan’s characters a lot mainly because of the weird animations. I don't care that much mainly because the only characters in natlan who’s personality I liked are Citlali and Ororon, and their animations seem to be the ones I very much enjoy, so l'm just glad that I have some time to skip and save primos, but l absolutely and passionately hate the route hoyo decided to take with this region and believe that was a massive, and I mean MASSIVE mistake. The only thing I would disagree with you on is that I actually don’t even like natlan as a region. I really loved how previously all the regions kept enough of seriousness in them to feel more mature and interesting for adult audience, as well as how every region had a distinct vibe to it, mainly based on a specific historic period of some real life areas and nationalities. With natlan I just see so much wasted potential. It feels like natlan just doesn’t have any identity, it just goes between goofy and cute expressive characters with very childish and fun animations, then it tries to be dark and overly serious with the war themes (which looks weird just because there was no proper setup to it, the region doesn’t look like what the lore is trying to tell us AT ALL), it tries to combine some of the most ancient tribe traditions with some weird overly modern stuff, and it’s just such a mess in terms of its overall vibe and atmosphere. I just feel like almost every single nation we have is portrayed as this super developed technological empire (the last region that actually was behind in any sort of inventions was inazuma, which made sense since it was enclosed for a long period of time), so these new modern themes just feel so.. repetitive? Imagine how cool it would be if natlan was actually based on tribal cultures from previous centuries, maybe a little less modern and industrial with people there not being as insanely educated like somewhere in sumeru, but being way closer to nature, way more adapted to the life in harmony with the world around them and relying on ancient traditions and rituals instead of modern knowledge and technologies? It would give it such a distinct atmosphere and that missing identity, making the characters more purposeful and unique comparing to the nations that were already on the game before. I just keep getting more and more disappointed with every natlan update, sadly. I LOVE this game and I will keep playing it, just skipping characters I don’t enjoy, but it saddens me when I think just how big of a potential was thrown in the garbage bin with this disaster of a region. I do agree with you on that but even though it’s a product we’re allowed to comment on and give our opinions on to help make it better for every player, some players still do get their feelings hurt because someone else bad mouthed their favorite game, even though it’s also about personal preferences but I guess that’s what I meant by that saying ☺️ But I pictured Natlan the same as you did, based on tribal culture and ancient abilities and powers. yea I was personally super disappointed with chasca's design because her whole kit revolves around her having that big gun to fly around on so why is she not more cowgirl themed. She gives me robin hood vibes but has a huge gun?? Ok I guess Lol. They literally made boothill in HSR which has a perfect theme to his design. I do agree with you about them being so white as well. It doesn't make a lot of sense at all. I know a lot of people have brought up the skin coloring before but natlan is especially egregious about it.

im a chasca lover and shes literally me but i agree with there not being enough theme. i feel like they couldn't decide whether to lean more into the cowgirl aesthetic when they really should have. the pants are very lacking (literally half there) and the elf ears kind of throw me off because there's not really a reason for it (unless there is idfk??) i had a gripe with the saturated blue clashing with her burgundy at first, but it referencing her abyssal corrosion makes so much more sense now. the flying revolver is goofy but it grew on me it's very unique. tdlr the vision they were going for with her design is great but her final design shouldve been left on the drawing board a little longer

as a latino genshin fan i was super duper excited about natlan cause omg,south america is gonna be represented!,genshin has done an okay-ish job at representing their region on what were based one (although in sumeru its a bit complicated but still got it okay),but natlan just feels like a whole mix match of ideas the devs wanted to implement and threw it all in natlan!,all the the previous talk we got about natlan made a whole different picture on what was actually given and its honestly quite dissapointing TT,especially with south america and african culture having so much to take from!,i honestly don't know happened that they flopped so hard! D:,absolutaly share the sentiment of dissapointment for natlan,wish they could of implemented the ideas more naturaly (rant incoming!!!!,sorry!!!!!) Past regions and its characters seemed to fit into the world,as an example mondstad,okay we have a bard,a bartender,we have some nights,okay,in liyue we have an excorcist,a traditional dancer and singer (other characters like hutao, yanfei or even qiqi you could day they are odd but the worldbuilding and character design made sure that they would fit onto the world naturally!),in inazuma we have a shrine maiden (i think thats how they are called),a ninja,a yokai and oni,once again,fitting into the regions theme,sumeru we have forest watcher,heremites,sumeru akademia students,in fontaine we have a judge,a (basically) policemen,a reporter,a diver blah blah blah,it all fits onto the themes of the regions!,but natlan???,the world building feels half done in a way,okay we have a weapon foreger,she also is a dj and goes in skates???,like??,what???,we have kinich,he is a bounty hunter of sorts,alright,why is his whole aesthetic pixel art though??,it just feels odd,it can be said for almost all natlan characters being honest,with chasca and her gun and muavika with the leaks,it just doesn't make sense world building wise :((,as a total nerd for writting and world building and south american theres so many things you could take inspo from,like i always imagined a mexican mariachi claymore character would of been awesome,but in the end (at least for now) natlan feels like a mix match of any leftover ideas they had,which is truly sad cus of the amazing job (or at least okay-ish) job they did with the past regions,but yeah,sadly agree that couldn't get onto natlan either TT (sorry fot the long comment waaa)

it probably throws you off because natlan pulls a lot of cultural references from multiple continents in the real world (aztec theme + south america + africa + oceania + southern-north america, basically everything in the ring of fire), while the others are based off a country or small region and are more monotonous. i see why it's too much and your opinion's fair. i really enjoy it though, i think they combined many regional themes in a creative way and made the elements into the tribes themes (pyro and hydro = hot springs, pyro and geo = gemstones, etc.) the mix-match-ness is in character for the nation and it really grew on me. but i'm biased cause this is my favorite and most hyped nation since the beginning

Sadly Hoyo and the Chinese market is racist (except for a few not all of them are bad but the majority is) so I doubt we’ll get tanned skinned characters, I really wish we did, and tbh I’m disappointed with Natlan too. As for Mavuika and Chasca they are so white that you can barely see the NightSoul on them, I feel like they all would’ve look much better darker, same with Kinich too, I saw edits and the colours popped out more and overall looked better. Plus the way their fighting styles are it just doesn’t even fit genshin anymore. It’s like Natlan just threw out all the world building for this fantasy world especially with the whole motorcycle thing. and I hear Citalali is supposed to be based off my ethnicity, and yet she’s bright as hell to the point she’s glowing. I honestly feel a little sad about that but I guess it’s an upgrade from hilichurls? Their dancing was based off our culture dancing and I also hate the way their portrayed as enemies, overall Hoyo is just stupid and I know they can make darker characters because the NPCs are darker coloured then the playable characters 🩵

“Illogical” and “take that with a grain of salt” is correct :) personally, Natlan has been the region I’ve been most excited by- it brought me back to genshin after over a year’s break. I connect a lot more with the new characters personalities than the other regions (besides Fontaine lol) and the exploration is so fun and rewarding. I do wish Chasca rode a saurian though like the rest of her clan😂 and the character designs look good to me in natlan but do look really out of place in other regions. Like Mavuika’s kit in monstadt will look so goofy. Also totally agree with everything you said about Ororon. Anyway, love hearing your thoughts, just reminds me how diverse this game and its player base is :)

Hoyo knows damn well that their beloved chinese player base wont be throwing their money on dark skinned characters- so dont expect any characters darker than chocolate shavings. I do like mavuika's gameplay, but im with you on chasca. Its flimsy and her meta is ridiculously narrow and its just so weird to see a flying gun lady in a universe where people still use horses to get around.

It’s not just you..Natlan characters are strange and clunky to play, especially with a controller. I find myself just visiting older regions again and building older characters for fun. Hey, saving money is good right? 😂 I do like roaming around Natlan because at least there’s no underwater exploration!

I mean as someone who has played on both ps5 and pc I think most of the characters are "hard to play" just because you can't turn quick enough. Characters like Neuvillette has an easy mechanic but its really hard to execute with a controller. I feel they definitely focus on the pc and mobile side of things when designing new kits because that's what the majority of people play on. I honestly really like natlans character mechanics though because of how different they are but yeah I can definitely understand how they are difficult to play on controller

Chasca looks pretty amazing, i'll have to wait till her rerun :( i thought she was electro at first and got impressed when she turned out to be cryo and later changed to anemo. 😅 also, i really want tan characters too! my Kaeya is lvl 90 not only bcs i love all about him, but when i saw him in the cutscene i was like "WHO'S THAT FINE WINE I'M SEEING??? omg choco boooyy!!" 😂 i was not expecting to see a tan skinned character so early in a Chinese game, so yeah, his different skin color caught my attention and made him so unique. ❤ one small edit: i love Citlali's gameplay, but it doesn't suit her!!!!! idk, she looks so childish and goofy.. it's cute and everything but not for her character :( i was expecting something more serious yk? i really think hoyo did her dirty, she doesn't looks like a granny and i would love if her gameplay was more elegant and sofisticated. Mavuika on the other side, seems impressive!! she's stunning, amazing, and like the motorbike.. my jaw dropped!!! it's kinda strange seeing a Genshin character ridding a motorbike but Chasca rides a gun so.. 😂 i think Mavuika looks completely amazing, 11/10, pretty, hot, elegant, she's just everything!! i can't express how much in love i am 😭💖

Then again people love that guy and so do I. 4:14 I play with controller too, it was weird cause at first I thought I had to hold Circle(B button for you) to charge the attack but no. I got used to it real quick tho due to experience playing shooting games. 7:45 More Xinyans and Kaeyas wouldn’t hurt, we want more. I love all the Archons equally(Shogun being my fav), but I think Mavuika is more unique gameplay-wise. 16:58 I was thinking before, and I feel like Sumeru is more Techno than Natlan, as for Natlan it gives more Mechanical and use Phlogiston to fuel their rides. Like comparing the latest Smartphone vs old school Cars. 18:35 Natlan is weird. I enjoyed your video and I loved how you expressed your feelings about the subject. I’m enjoying Chasca, she’s powerful and very fun to explore with, I’m pulling Mavuika and C6 at that cause I think she’s cool. And that’s just it, I pull for what I like, and people should too. Enjoy the game for what you like and the characters for what you like, we all have different tastes and that’s what people should respect. I like stories, be it bad or awesome, I’m enjoying the game cause I love a story. All characters and regions are unique to them and I wanna see what stories they tell. What is it that makes Mualani difficult to control with a controller? You hit her Skill and controlling her on the shark feels exactly the same as on foot except a little bit faster so what changes that makes it so hard?

@valentinesolstice I am not sure I can explain it well in English but Mualani, just like all other Natlan characters, has double powers. You have the regular ones without the Natlan specifics and then you have the shark surfing thing. To me, it’s very difficult on the controller because the shark enabling actions are the same as the sprinting / regular powers. So you’re using the same keys for the different things on one character. It takes some getting used to. Natlan has been very underwhelming for me so far. All of the character designs feel like Zenless Zone Zero leftovers and I really dislike what feels like a retcon of Teyvat culture and technology. A giant magical flying revolver? I just can't get behind it. I was already a bit iffy on Mavuika due to her weird suit but now that Mavuika has footage showing that her primary combat seems to be almost entirely focused on what seems like a magical/sentient motorcycle? ... Ugh. Fontaine was particular good for character design and I ultimately liked all but two of the 5-stars (and I still regret not pulling for Chiori). But for Natlan? I pulled for Xilonen and I don't exactly regret it, but I'm not happy about it. I had been saving a ton of Mavuika, but after seeing the motorcycle my interest faded away to basically nothing.

I like that certain Natlan world quests drop Abyss and some Khaenri’ah lore with how they interacted with Natlan. Mm…I don’t care for their Archon though. Personally, I think she’s ugly. Nothing too ‘wow’ about this region so far but hopefully, that changes very soon. Bcs I’m not interested in pulling for any Natlan character, well, besides Capitano.

Hard agree with a lot of what you said, Natlan has been pretty disappointing and unhype for me…especially for the characters. The one character I’m looking forward to the most (Iansan), was teased years ago and now is barely in the story! Not to mention she’s the only actual dark-skinned Natlan playable character, super disappointed when I learnt she’s the only one. Natlan is the first Nation I have to just power through till Snezhnaya lol

This my personal opinion and based on leaks as well, the characters kits are super messed up Like it's either a familiar kit but with harder rotations or it's a weird mix between two old characters kit like xilonen who's kazuha but healer and less buff The designs also kinda suck for females it's very showing for no reason( maulani, chasca, xilonen, and arguably mavuika) Only two males and the game did them dirty I like kinich but he literally looks like minecraft Xiao So the designs and kits are so weird and hard to understand why Compared to sumeru or Fontaine or the designs reflect the region And kits were simple and not game breaking cheating kit How can chasca be called anemo if she uses every other element ...

Oh girl how I feel you. I was never hyped for Natlan because I personally do not find the irl regions it is based off interesting, so I was prepared to just treat it as a filler before Snezhaya but ohmygod this feels so much worse 🥲 The charachters designs and personalities are just not it, the zones.....after the masterpieces that were Chenyu Vale and the entirety of Fontaine, feel like such a downgrade to me. First time I do not give a damn about an archon release, there is no intrigue at all. Inferno Rider from Wuthering Waves, welcome to Genshin I guess. About the tan part: Chasca needs one so badly, its painful. But not Ororon tho, our boy is a bat, based off bats, which are nocturnal, he himself is very nocturnal, his burst is an echolocator of sorts and his constellation is literally "Vampyrum Spectrum" :D The lad has proper bat ears too hehe If anyone in the region should have been pale, it was him. Everyone else....ye I get why they do it, does not mean I like it P.S. Thats what the surveys are for peeps, tell em directly what you think P.P.S. Ororon works from OFFIELD, girl, drop his stuff and switch off, he is a Fishl with aoe, very simplified 😛

I honestly agree i was kinda surprised by this video because everyone else on genshin youtube seemed so excited but im glad there are people who feel the same way. I also dont like the exploration of natlan I think its cool that there are so many abilities but it feels much worse if you dont have the signature character for that region of natlan. And having to transform into a different animal just made the exploration feel really clunky 🩵

Personally natlan is the most fun I've had with genshin, so i can't understand why you wouldn't at least find them interesting I DO understand people have preferences i have a few characters i dislike As for the white thing I have nothing crazy to say i just can't even force myself to care, i dont think natlan is based on the part of africa im from ,at least not what was shown so far, even if it were i cant take a game seriously enough to be upset about skin color As for Ororons fit i agree no pushback there, as for 4* star chasca idk what crack your informants was smoking but even the earliest info said she was 5*,I dont understand what you are talking about about the anemo stuff As for mauvika i havent seen her gameplay but there is no way it is more boring than neuvillete(shoot me) And last thing ill say i only recently so i remember alot of the game content and i only remember natlan being mentioned by an npc saying it is tropical

Mavuika's animations are around since she's in beta, and it's as ridiculous as it is awesome. I can't wait to pick up her C2R1. People keep saying they don't understand why there's so much "tech" in Natlan but I think the idea is that their technology is technically the oldest since they are the only nation with such a strong connection to the original formative energy source of the world (phlogiston) and thus, ancient civilization and its myriad creations that parallel our modern technology. The color thing has never bothered me so I have no comments to add on that.

Coucou 😊 Je te rejoins complètement par rapport à la diversité de couleur des personnages ! Malheureusement, les développeurs du jeu se concentrent seulement sur les goûts des joueurs chinois donc bien blancs et majoritairement féminins 🙄 Je ne pense pas que ça évoluera malheureusement.. les quelques personnages un peu coloré souffrent au niveau de leur kit, les rendant moins bons que les autres : Xinyan, Kaeya, Candace, ... C’est triste Au niveau gameplay/chara-design c’est normal, comme on dit : chacun ses goûts ! Par rapport à "l’avancée technologique" de Natlan, ça peut paraître surprenant au départ mais elle ne sort pas de nulle part. Tout est expliqué dans le lore, c’est grâce à la maîtrise du phlogistique ! C’est une énergie pure (c’est comme la lumière blanche qui se décompose en 7 couleurs de l’arc-en-ciel grâce à un prisme, le phlogistique c’est ça, il est l’origine des 7 éléments). C’est une énergie vachement puissante qui descend des dragons ! Il est expliqué que c'est ce qui a permis aux humains de Natlan de se développer et de prospérer, d’où "l’avancée technologique" par rapport aux autres nations. On a pas pu être préparés en rencontrant des gens de Natlan dans les régions précédentes parce que les habitants de Natlan ne quittent pas la region sinon ils s’éloignent de la protection de la wayob de leur tribu et finissent malades ou meurent. Snezhnaya semble pas mal au niveau technologique non plus : poupée méchanique à travers le monde (Catherine), la fabrication des visions maléfiques semblables à celles crées par les dieux, dottore et ses experiences scientifiques, ... Après voilà pour les personnages de Natlan, ils ont voulu leur donner la particularité de se déplacer de manière originale et d'utiliser leur moyen de transport dans leur façon de combattre : donc Mualani qui surfe sur son requin l'utilise pour se battre aussi, Kinich qui utilise son grapin peut s’accrocher à ses ennemis, ect.. Chasca c'est pareil elle se bat avec un gros pistolet, donc il l'ont fait s’envoler dessus 😂 Par rapport à Mavuika je trouve qu’elle représente bien son statut d’Archon Pyro. J’ai vu pas mal de gens se plaindre qu'elle n’était pas un support 5*, mais c’est l’Archon de la guerre en fait 😅 donc pour moi c’est normal qu'elle soit dps. Comme pour les autres personnages de Natlan, il lui fallait un moyen de déplacement à utiliser en explo et en combat et la moto ça reste cohérent avec son design. Pour moi ça renforce son côté "simple". Dans le lore, faut pas oublier que c’est une humaine à la base. C’est juste une femme simple, qui a une passion, ok elle est archon mais comparée à d’autres elle est proche de son peuple, ils l’appellent par son prénom quoi, c’est limite s'ils l'a tutoient genre.. Son ult qui se base sur le "battle will" donc les attaques des autres persos de la team au lieu de la recharge, ça renforce ça aussi je trouve. Enfin voila, comme je disais chacun ses goûts 😄

The reason they're (all the playable characters) light-skinned is because dark-skinned characters simply sell worse. The Chinese playerbase, their largest customer base obviously, flatly reject dark-skinned characters every time. Even if Mihoyo wanted to create dark-skinned, or even just tanned, characters they simply wont because it will instantly impacts sales negatively. The most we'll ever get are ones like Candace and Cyno, or minor characters no one cares about like Arlan in Star Rail. It's gross but what can you do?

I think there has been enough people commenting their opinions, but id just like to add that yes, the racism of a multinational company is “understandable”, but not acceptable. And their colorism (which is discrimination against darker skinned people in general, even from their own ethnicity, they’re not as literally racist as the occident) is hurtful even to Chinese people, as a lot of them are not pale white, especially people from the countryside (and yes Chinese colorism is also embedded in classism). Also to be more precise, people are not dark skinned because of being adapted to hot climates, but where the sun’s light hits strong. I just feel like precising that, not to correct you, but because yeah, I too see coming the “everyone in snezhnaya is white, and it makes sense because snow and cold”. When the russians we know, aren’t natives from Russia, there is actual indigenous people from Russia, and they’re not all pale skinned. The Inuits are also a good example. Which makes sense as you can get sunburnt on a snowy mountain, and it is recommended to put on sunscreen. But obviously, if they’re not capable of puttin good representation for Natlan and Sumeru, I’m not expecting anything in snezhnaya.

i like natlan on a surface level, like if you dont go into detail about it. when i do i find it very disappointing and a pretty big downgrade to fontaine. no hate if you do like it. and also the every character being so pale is irritating, especially since most of the designs look like they were meant for darker skin colours as well as the cultures natlan is meant to be based on. 🩵🩵

oh gosh, truly trying new characters is always hard for me and the natlan kits have been rlly confusing for me 🥲 i find that after playing with a char for a while im able to get it down rlly nicely though. lyney isn’t from nat but i had a hard time getting used to his rotation of skill and burst but now i love love love that i built him ! and his dmg is great 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

Idk I’m loving all the natlan stuff honestly it’s really creative I just seen the leaks for mavuika and I seen a lot of saying it feels out of place or doesn’t feel like genshin impact anymore. Honestly I can understand the concerns with the skin but ppl have to understand that Hoyo and a Chinese company and usually the beauty standard is paler skin(this is not an excuse for the lack of representation) but maybe they are not accustomed darker skin characters. I also think about the natlan feeling out of place or not feeling apart of teyvat because it’s suppose to feel more rural, to this I can only say that it’s the nation of war there is no reason why is should be technologically behind when its entire foundation is built behind war. I think that more than the lack of representation, one should also see it as part of the aesthetics. Some characters really would look better with a little bit of a tan 😔 but I do understand that most of the player base is Chinese and the beauty standards are different from one side of the globe to the other.
