Hey, bilingual girl here! I'm half French and half English. I was born and live in France but my mom is English. I find I much prefer reading in English Idk why I just don't like reading in French and it's wiered because I obviously study French books but I just love the English language so much and I find it so powerful and consuming while reading.

Fun video! As for the librarian idea, I think most of them have been digital for quite a while now (I don't think the one my wife works at has used a stamper since the late 90's), but that's no reason to not try to find a stamper, for an old-school feel and maximum ASMR-ness! As for writing in a particular language, I think the best idea is to write it in whatever language you're most comfortable in, and if it's successful enough, it will be translated into other languages (especially English, I would imagine.)

I am quite looking forward to seeing Sarah's Librarian role play. 4:00 -- Speaking as a professional librarian myself, however, I can tell you that most libraries stopped rubber stamping books with the due date about ten years ago! Now, the circulation database prints slips (like a cash register receipt) and it automatically e-mails reminder notices when the book is to be returned. Those stamps are now obsolete, and so long off the market.

I love brothers Karamazov. What I really like about Russian literature, and Dostoevsky in particular, is he explores the condition of human suffering and really leans into it. One of my favorite parts in the book is when Dmitriy is talking to Alyosha in the garden and he's telling him an idea for a story he wants to write about Christ coming to earth and going to the Pope and their interaction is very interesting.

I am bilingual (speak brazilian portuguese and english) and whenever I decide to read a book, I always end up reading in both languages, because it's really interesting how stories get adapted in translation. Like, expressions and jokes, even just curse words 😂 the story is the same, but there are definitely details here and there that you can only see when you read both versions, and I love that.

The most difficult book I've ever read was The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Reading it in its original native language was a kind of "torture" for me and then read it again after some years in English and I understood that I know like 10% of the English language vocabulary. Thanks for the relaxing video Sarah, until next time.

Wonderful video. The title words finger tip tracing was incredible. I didn’t realize what a powerful trigger that was. I’m new to ASMR. What do you alternate between a whisper and a soft voice tone? I like the whisper. But does that get fatiguing and that’s why you switch?
@SarahLavenderASMR3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Welcome to ASMR :) I love tracing as well, I really need to incorporate it more into my videos. I switch between the two tones because I feel like it makes the whisper more intense and "tingly" after some soft-spoken. Some people love it, some prefer only one tone the entire video - it's all preference!

I absolutely love your videos! I have been having such a busy week and videos like this one have been great just to give me some relaxation without falling asleep whilst working 😄 You're very right about the struggle of choosing in what language to write. However, for me it was more about the fact that I started writing my book in Bulgarian years ago when I still lived back in Bulgaria. I live in the UK now and struggle to translate it myself as literature isn't as easy to translate as a normal text or document. You have metaphors, etc which can be properly translated mainly by professional literary translators. That's why I am now considering to firstly try the Bulgarian market but it's certainly riskier than writing in English. The volume of the possible readers is much smaller but life is about taking risks, right? 🙂
@SarahLavenderASMR3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Veronica! That's super interesting and a hard decision - to write in Bulgarian or English... I say go for the one that you feel you can express yourself better in! And then hire a translator when it becomes a hit ;-)
