I never heard of it and I was curious :) I'm sorry that I didn't become a history teacher but I was immature at school and didn't study. The only one I’ve seen which isn’t very academic is by Averil Cameron- “Byzantine Christianity : a very brief history”. That’s looking at Amazon UK so there may be others. For the Empire John Julius Norwich has written several. Good luck!

One of my favorite empires and subjects! Its just absolutely amazing to think about how many cultures came and went during the period of Byzantium. Its amazing to think how the Roman empire continued and split, when we often just think of the west and Italy proper when thinking about the Romans. Also, the mosaic artwork of the Byzantine empire is absolutely gorgeous! I wish I could have lived there for just a day to see what it was like in the golden age there. Your voice is absolutely golden as well! Can't wait to watch this this evening.

Constantine XI dying in battle is a beautifully tragic end to the longest lasting empire in history, Rome. I like to think the Roman Empire lived on through the last emperor of the Constintinian line, Czar Nicholas II.
