Jesse Bosque It's brazilian, so is not that common in other countries. But here we call it just Jaca. It tastes good, but it has a really strong smelllllll.

Some facts about the jackfruit: it can weigh up to 100 pounds, grows at the bottom of the trunk of the tree, and the tree itself takes five to seven years to grow and produce fruit. Once grown, a single tree can give off 150-200 pieces of fruit a year. This fruit is a perennial and requires relatively no care once it's grown. Essentially, this fruit could save areas that are in severe food shortages seeing as it is in protein, potassium and vitamin B and about 100 per cup. It apparently has a musky smell, but like she said, it is very sweet and can be prepared in many different ways. I've seen vegan recipes use the jackfruit as "pulled pork" where they cook it, shred it, and use sauces and seasonings. I hope to try it one day, only in it's native land because it is actually quite expensive in the States.

i just had to come back to this vid ... first to be sure i was eating it properly but most importantly ......i was in the supermarket today and saw Jack Fruit i wouldnt have known what it was had i not seen this vid prior ... You should save the seeds, I have read if you boil them, they are similar to boiled potatoes. You should cut out the center. And to avoid stickiness/sap, should drizzle (lightly flavored oil) on your hands and knife before trying to get the jackfruit pieces out.
