This is so beautiful. Every part of the art, from the brush to the ink to the paper, it all seems so special, even sacred. I study literature and writing. In one of my classes, we learned about how, before the invention of the printing press, copying manuscripts was considered an act of worship. Every tool the monks used to copy a manuscript had a symbolic meaning: the nib of the pen was split in two, which symbolized your love for God and your neighbor; the ruler was straight line to God; the pen knife was a sharp fear of God; the blank parchment was a clear conscience, ready to fill with goodness. I don't know much about the history of calligraphy in Japan, but it makes me wonder. There's so much reverence shown here for your tools, I wonder if they have a spiritual connotation as well? Maybe not in the same sense as the monks of medieval Europe, but a spirituality all the same? Beautiful work! I have always been interested in calligraphy, maybe I'll do some more studying on it :)
Don’t do that to a new calligraphy brush *watches in horror* 😱😱😱

KIMINKINK ' yea ik lol but i just couldn’t help myself when i saw him do that. It’s also funny to me that everything he used in this video is literally brand new which made me scratch my head as he seemed to practice calligraphy on his channel. If you’re practicing traditional calligraphy in basically any east asian country the first thing you learn is how to use a brush properly and practice with calligraphy brush...
@solanaleung61136 жыл бұрын
Malaise i got one of those and i never did that to it unless the ink on top is a bit dry. i definitely would not make it into that poop like thingy he got there cuz i don’t want my lid to be covered in it but oh well it’s his choice i suppose LOL
@malaise926 жыл бұрын
Solana Leung have seen a couple of videos where the ink looks like that, I supposed that’s how they got it like that (maybe??). Though I personally wouldn’t do it either, it looks horrible... ):

😍 Há todo um ritual antes de dar início à caligrafia que começa com os materiais usados e seus estojos. Tudo é belo e muito refinado. Dá gosto ver a maneira como o calígrafo faz o pincel deslizar sobre o papel. Lindo de se ver!

Even though I'm asian, I've never really seen people write, and this is like one of my first times seeing this on KZbin, and honestly, it's so pleasing.
Judging from the sound of the bristles and how they were falling out, those are some cheap ass calligraphy brushes.
@deadaccount55076 жыл бұрын
MoonS1337 hello! Do you do calligraphy? I personally would like to know the cost of a regular or professional brushes. I do not mean to be rude. Thank you
@MoonS13376 жыл бұрын
Wolfu Gacha I don't do calligraphy, but I am an artist and a painter at that. I know a cheap brush when I see one. Every cheap brush has a crunchy exterior and the hairs always fall out into the paint. Not to mention, the white ones are usually synthetic. Also, judging from how many NEW brushes were in that cup, they were definitely not expensive. I can't tell you how much a calligraphy brush costs, but a paint brush: (cheap: $2.00- $3.00 USD) (art store expensive: $6.00 - $10.00 + per brush) (professional: No idea)

I got attracted by the thumbnail and came to watch some cool Japanese calligraphy. After watching, I've a feeling of calm and content which is strange. This is so meditative. Whoever you're, every thing that you use fir the final outcome is done so with so much love and respect for this old art. Respect to you brother.
Thank you. I've heard about Japanese calligraphy but I'd never seen it in really life. I've seen it in anime and manga but it's so incredible those don't due it justice at all. It's so peaceful but beautiful and powerful, it's honestly one of the most captivating things I've ever watched. Thank you so much for sharing this.
