The patterns, especially when the stones are centred, remind me of when an object is dropped into water. It’s really beautiful:)

That's actually on purpose. Sand represents water and rocks represent islands in Japanese rock gardens.

I used to have a Zen garden that a spent 30 minutes a day just letting my mind go whenever it desired. And then I got cats. Maybe in time I take it out again and just learn to become one with the paw prints.

I had a meltdown earlier because this school term has been so stressful. But after watching this it's amazing how I was able to let my thoughts wander and then let them go and relax. I don't even remember how I found this video. But I'm so grateful.

Never before did I realize the influence of Zen garden patterns on Art Deco (among many other "media"). This was mesmerizing. I will add, though several people wrote about the process putting them to sleep, I found myself wide awake by the end--relaxed and calm, though fully awake and alert. Thanks for sharing this...

This looks like it takes a lot of practice to get the lines so perfect, thank you. I love how you can still see the patterns after the under rake is used, very subtle and beautiful.

For me this was the most impressive pattern, 9:22, considering that in came only from doing a single linear pass of the rake. The visual effect of that cuadricule is amazing.

19:36, the disc in the ripples is floating above the rings and bamboo poles below. it's as if the disc was dropped and the ripples are rolling out from the impact on the meniscus. it's all very 3D in a 2D plane

Usually that phrase refers to the fact that a conflict has become inevitable and battle plans drawn up, so giving the phrase new connotations of peace and calmness is a really cool take on this!

I truly admire the precision of your gestures. This is the kind of thing I'd love to do for relaxation, but I'm clumsy, my hands are shaky, and I get nervous about little details like a line that's not straight etc... so I'd probably spend 20mn trying to draw a satisfying circle, fail, and get anxious 😂

Hahahaha! I was thinking the same about doing it for relaxation. Then I remembered my hands are shaky and I freak out about details like straight lines or perfect circles and would also spend forever trying to get it perfect and just end up anxious and stressed!! Better to watch someone else do it lol!

This may be my all time favorite video. If I could watch it on repeat without blaring commercials I’d sleep to it every night. Maybe a longer one in the future some day? This, was extremely calming for me. I was super stressed out and felt fine by the end of this video. I gotta make watching these a regular thing. As a mathematical person, I really love the geometric patterns here. I also love the dual concept of: 1) Being willing to put a lot of work into something beautiful and let it go 2) Having something really complicated that, at first glance, you don't know how it was made be wiped clean and smooth The second point was important for me and I felt a lot of the things I was worrying about vanish

wow this was beautiful, relaxing, professional photography, incredible lighting, and so deep. the last design is so gorgeous and intricate, and then they wipe it all away in one swift motion. I was overcome with emotion when they did that. It made me realize that I have built a life that was beautiful, intricate, layered, and amazing, and just like that something came and wiped my design all away. all that time, energy, and work erased. but somehow it feels totally ok. because the blank sand has so many possibilities.

Hey Yuki, just want to say thank you for these Zen Garden videos you make. When I find there is too much wurring around inside my head I revisit them from time to time to gently calm my brain down.
