I grew up in an abusive alcoholic household. My mother was an alcoholic and her partner was too and he used to be physically abusive at times. Because of this I very rarely even touch alcohol because I have seen the damage it does to relationships and to people who drink mentally and physically . My mother has been sober for nearly 10 years now, but for me for what I saw and lived through I never want to touch it. I hope you all have fun drinking but get help if you notice that it takes control of your life or starts to damage your relationship with friends and family.

Such a similar story with me. Grew up with an emotionally abusive alcoholic father who ruined me for alcohol as a little girl. I'm an adult now, and to this day I can't stand being in the presence of drunk people, much less touching alcohol myself. I have no problem if people want to drink, as long as they are responsible and healthy about it, but I just can't go there. It's too painful.

I used to drink a lot when I was away at college. Now that I've gotten the partying out of my system, I drink much less frequently. I also rarely drink hard alcohol now and mainly stick to having a beer once or twice a week. I don't think I could ever quit drinking alcohol, but I find myself drinking much less frequently than I used to.

Paul, Truly excellent video. I enjoyed every single second of it. Being someone who actually doesn't drink alcohol or do any drugs, it's nice to see you coming over to this side. The world is pretty clear on this end. I will note, it would be great if you would do ASMR and SOME beverage again. ASMR and beer (and wine for all you old viewers) was truly my favorite series that you've done (which I've comment on profusely over the years) and it would suck to see it go without some kind of replacement. Def not a make or break thing for me, but something I'd love to keep going! Thanks for all of these years!

I make my living in the restaurant and bar scene. It definitely has opened my eyes to just how widely accepted and even normal it is to be a mild to even severe alcoholic. Example, most of my coworkers or work related friends are functioning addicts/alcoholics. However there are a few regulars from the bar next door who are just some of the most pitiful people I've ever seen. They come out almost every night, spend every dime, and get so drunk they don't know who they are. We just shrug it off. Oh, that's just how so-and-so is. What can you do? Well, morally I couldn't serve them. I don't because I host, thankfully. But to most everyone downtown, it's just a paycheck. It's honestly disgusting if you really think about how ingrained it is into our culture, society, and every day lives. I don't hate alcohol. I drink occasionally. Again, it's hard not to in that scene.

I grew up with an alcoholic mother who died when I was 18 from cirrhosis of the liver. I get full-on anxiety attacks with physical reactions around drunk people and I avoid becoming friends with people who drink, even socially, because I'm afraid of losing them too. I'm currently taking medication which was terrifying to me because I don't want to be reliant on a chemical to feel ok. Ironically, I had an anxiety attack about taking anxiety meds lol. I'm also going to al-anon meetings to finally face the issues that living with an alcoholic mother left me with, getting the help I should have gotten from the age of ten.
@Kimber20118 жыл бұрын
My mom drank because she had mental health issues that led to overeating. She got a gastric bypass surgery which made it physically impossible to eat too much, so she switched to drinking. She got this surgery early on in its existence, so they didn't offer proper mental health counseling and did not address the issues that lead to weight gain in the first place. When my mom went to rehab for the first time, I found out alcoholism can be hereditary, and decided I'd never drink it or do any drugs or smoke. I became angry with alcohol to the point where I wished it would never have existed. As I've matured, my anger has turned to other things, like the lack of mental health counseling for gastric bypass surgery and the general mental health taboo that most likely led to my mother's overeating and her resistance to getting the help she needed.

Safe to say, I avoid asmr videos that put alcohol in a positive light, but I did appreciate listening to this video. I'm trying to open my mind so that I feel more socially comfortable even if there's a part of me screaming that there's no need to accept alcohol as ok. I mean on the list of problems I could have, alcohol avoidance is low in terms of damaging. Still, it's no good being a 23-year-old who avoids making friends with her age group because of situations that might involve alcohol. I'm working on it.

Now I'm only fourteen, but I know that drinking can be so incredibly destructive. I have a very bad family history with drinking. It's destroyed my mothers life, and sadly that's why she is no longer of this world. Yet something I know is just because you drink, it doesn't make you a alcoholic. You could have a drink or two, but it really just boils down to control, and responsibility. Having control is very hard in a lot of aspects, but it is obtainable. Like Rift said, there are a lot of good in alcohol. It can create jobs, it can reduce anxiety, there's a lot of good in alcohol. Yet soon enough, the bad and ugly can sneak right in. Alcohol can cause hangovers, can cause you to make regrettable mistakes. Then, the ugly. The ugly is when people, drink and drive, they abuse it and get cancer, liver disease, and a whole plethora of horrid things. But then again, it's not always bad. This was just a little thing to make you think about what could happen, good or bad next take you take a swig of that beer.
@Melancholia19918 жыл бұрын
Caleb Lindquist Agree with all of the above. I'm 25, dad was an alcoholic, something something shitty childhood. I do drink, sometimes heavily, sometimes moderately. I personally think it depends heavily on ones personality type. Some people have incredibly addictive personalities. They'll get addicted to something if it looks at them funny, whether that's something positive, like lifting weights, reading, or something negative, like drugs, or meaningless sex. You'll need to be smart and realise that if you have said personality type, you probably shouldn't be drinking. Full disclaimer : I do drink, grew up around it, brother is on heroin, yet I can still maintain 50 hours of work a week and be a positive influence on my family and friends. TL,DR - Everything in moderation boys and girls. You have a brain. Use it. Don't be a statistic.

I don't think it's too surprising that humanity is a bunch of alcoholics. Our first civilizations grew up around the creation and distribution of alcohol, among other things. I think we're so reliant on it simply because it was the first addictive, mind altering ingredient we ever consumed in large proportions in our early history.

I have this irrational dislike of alcoholism. The main reason for this is that it feels like it's a waste of time to go to parties, because at a certain point my mates lose their ability or interest to hold a conversation, which feels to me like their entire character has changed (e.g. you're hanging out with people that are your friends, but it's like you don't even know them).

Oh boy, I could write a whole lot about this, but I'll keep it short: As someone who as a child made a promise to never do drugs, and always stuck to that promise, it's been "interesting" not to drink alcohol in a society where that is still the norm (although this might kind of slowly be changing): binge-drinking in the weekends is very common here in Sweden and would be much worse if it weren't for the selling of alcohol being as restricted as it is. I think the debate here can be partly boiled down to personal freedom (for those who _can_ handle alcohol and only or mostly experience the positive effects) versus solidarity with others (for example those who cannot handle it and only or mostly experience the negative effects).

The binge drinking culture in Australia is insane. My friends and I started at the tender age of 14. For me at least, alcohol led to many other things. My smoking addiction came about because of alcohol. I lost my license twice, because of alcohol. These things carried over to my 20's and I thought nothing of drinking a carton on a Friday night and riding it out till Sunday. I'm 27 now and don't drink no where near as much, but sometimes when I look back I wonder how something serious never happened. And wasn't just me and my friends as well, everyone did it. I don't know how it is in America but, over here, alcohol is part of our whole identity, so the binge drinking culture will never go away. Just don't get sucked up into it and you'll be fine I guess.

I support you in quitting alcohol for life, you should do whatever feels right for you. See for me is not much of a concern if you really do only drink moderate, there are so many other things that are not drugs that aren't completely pure and that may harm us, the water you drink, food, soda, medicine etc, nothing is completely healthy really.. I for example drink moderately, a night of drinking usually means 3 beers, I happen also to be in ultrasound school and I am one of the students that happens to have great anatomy, just about anything looks crystal clear and healthy on me. But I do understand where you are coming from, being a father and all. Great video by that way!

Great video thanks. My son is 16 and lots of his mates try to get him to drink as it makes them happy but my son's dad ( i divorced him) is an alcoholic so he knows the dangers of starting drinking at a young age and what damage it does to your brain. His ambitions are to go to a top Uni whereas his mates are now thinking smaller and smaller and settling - that's what it does to you. It makes you think you are happy and takes away ambitions. His choice but I want you to know you are not alone - there is a lot of peer pressure out there - I get it too even though I quit 17 years ago - and we are always having to make excuses why we don't drink because " I don't drink' isn't enough for people - you want to drink that's up to you - but please everyone stop peer pressuring those of us who don't drink to make yourselves feel better about your addiction.

i was just having a discussion about this the other day, that people don't seem to get the "yes this is a drug" thing. i think what it comes down to is a self reflection thing. usually people that don't want to think about it won't call alcohol or coffee, or prescription pills etc etc drugs because of any reasons they may have. but think about that... reasons they may have... i have known pot smokers who have said well at least i'm better than alcoholics, alcoholics who say well at least i'm better than potheads and cokeheads, and they say at least i'm better than methheads. it's crazy to me
@jpperron18358 жыл бұрын

@chicnflopper64608 жыл бұрын
Austin Hyatt My father smoked it for 40 years. He's now a heavy addict, and can't go 12 hours without it before having withdrawal symptoms: Shivering, paranoia, violence. It's probably not just the pot alone that's affected him like this, probably another undiagnosed condition, but it certainly made him reliant rather than letting him confront his issues. You choose what you think is right, just take into note that I wholeheartedly believe that heavy use of marijuana completely destroyed the man I looked up to, and that was only within the 18 year period that I knew him.

@slime44228 жыл бұрын
+Troy Hale That's not true. It's the fault of both. Too much can damage you, so by saying that it isn't the "fault" of the weed is just trying to push away the fact that it can be damaging. I'm for legalisation of it, even though I'd never do it, my main reason for legalisation is just for the money that could be made off it but if you say things like that you're just bullshitting. The marijuana took a part in harming his father. Not that it relieves the fault of his father, but there is 100% a fault in the Marijuana.

I'd rather wish you courage and bravery, but I can wish you luck too on the sidenote... But like alcohol, it must be used with moderation ! Now as it has been a year I hope it's better now. But you may still needa bit of those in the future, who knows ?

No more beer reviews? Maybe soda reviews as a replacement then? haha. I really just love your beer review videos.

Speaking of beer videos: Even though I don't drink beer I really like the sound the foam makes when poured and bubbles bursting etc... There are some good brands of (non-alcoholic) "must" (especially "julmust") in Sweden ("must" was once introduced as a non-alcoholic alternative to beer), which come very close to producing as good a foam as many beers do. Do you have similar non-alcoholic beverages in the US?

moderation is key I think coffee specifically caffeine is more harmful then beer or wine strictly in moderation of course you can go cold turkey and never sip alcohol again go a day without coffee or soda if you're really addicted to caffeine and you get headaches, dizzy, drowsy I will be turning 21 in may I think I will try whisky wine and rum just to see if I like them but beer is what I plan on drinking mostly

I'll occasionally have a beer or a drink when going out to eat. Other than that I only drink at parties when I get super fucked up on drugs and alcohol. Those nights only happen about once every one or two months. I've made a lot of great friends, and had many great experiences on those nights. Not to mention, the best sex EVER. I've never seen any of my friends be abusive or aggressive when high/drunk. We always have a lot of fun. I know that as a grow older and my responsibilities become more demanding, these nights will fade into just memories, and I know I'll be ok with that. I don't don't ever feel like I NEED any of the substances I use, and all of my friends and I are very conscious not to drive under the influence.

ppsayl123 I wonder if he does an alernative, like soda tasting or something. I hope so, those relaxed wibes and the drinking sounds with some eating sounds from time to time were awesome.
@ppsayl12358 жыл бұрын
Opa Pelailee Yup The relaxed tone, the munching, polite conversation, beer tasting...all very enticing. Even a non-alcoholic combination (as you mentioned) would be inviting to participate in.

I f'n hate alcohol and congenital liver diseases especially when these diseases go undetected because some people get these diseases at younger ages than the typical age range. I'm so mad that my cousin Joi passed away from an undiagnosed liver disease (PBC) in combination with her alcohol addiction. I'm not mad at her. I'm mad at the situation and circumstances. I just want her back. 😭💔

rofl Alcohol for me with Social anxiety feels like a double edged sword. It does make me more sociable but I get REALLY anxious that I'll spurt some drunken shit so I panic if I feel if I've drunk too much.

So many youtubers are just in it for fame and money, making dumb videos to please the masses. You have personality though, and attract the right people to the right kinds of videos. I think thats worth alot, keep it up.

An alcoholic relative from my mom's family had stomach cancer. He drank so much that he killed the cancerous cells, along with the sane ones though. At least that's what my relatives say, is that even possible? He's probably dead now, his liver most likely got fucked.

Also just my 2 cents but I'd love to see you do an ASMR review of a videogame. Assuming you do end up replacing the beer reviews with something else but in that same genre.
