Dear friends, thanks for coming by! Some of you thought that my ceramics are made with air dry clay/polymer clay since I didn't show the kiln loading process in my previous making-of video. Please note that the ceramic clay I am using is called stoneware, it has to be fired in the kiln at high temperatures (ranging from 1,900 F to 2,400 F) for around 9 hours. This is what makes them extremely long-lasting, durable, heat resistant, waterproof. I have always wanted to show my kiln loading process, as I have mentioned in many videos (including this one), I don't get to show the process due to various reasons. I will film it once I am able to, please stay tuned : ) I hope you enjoy this video!

@@toastybjonk Considering the time she puts into making each individual pet, $200 probably barely makes minimum wage. Although the prices are high for some of us, I think the cost of an artist's work should reflect on the quality of it and the time it took to make it. For example, on her store, her prints are only $10 because she can produce those very easily. Making money from doing art also relies heavily on demand. If someone is willing to pay a high price, than (like leanne said) why not~

Succulents definitely need drainage, too! It's okay to give them lots of water (most succs, anyway) as long as you have them planted in a well-draining substrate with a drainage hole in the planter.
@tikusblue
@tikusblue 3 жыл бұрын
since the bottom is unglazed it probably allows some amount of water absorption so for dryer plants that are watered more minimally like succulents its probably not too much of an issue. You could also add a layer of larger stones in the bottom below the soil

Some workshops will allow you to burn your work at their place for a little bit of money(I say little but it will depend how many things you have, as the burning process is still fairly expensive by itself, because you will need to use the whole oven). But that alone would only make it less expensive if you had your own place to craft your things, which a lot of people don't have anyway. We have a few ''guilds'' where they teach, or employ a few artists who manage to secure their work spot in some magical way, which is kind of better than nothing.

It makes me so joyful to see you clean often. I am not a potter and have never really worked much with clay but even the little exposure I have reminds me of all the dirty, clayed up wheels and studios I have seen!

Lots of local pottery classes come with access to a kiln, so check out your local arts centre or adult learning centre to see if they offer classes :)

I have no where I could safely use a kiln in my apartment even if I bought one but there are locally potteries that will let me use theirs, they charge per pot. I was on a 6 month course at a different studio at one point and I could use the kiln for any bits, even stuff not made in class, during that time also.

@@sidraahmad7806 my dude, the nearest one is like 2 hours away ): I would if I could. While i do have air dry clay ,I prefer the latter. I wish I could go back to uni and borrow their kilns again.

4:50 How do you dispose of that water in the bucket? I read somewhere that you shouldn't throw it in the toilet or sink because the clay might clog up your pipes, so what's the proper way of disposing it?
@Pre-Nup

If there's clay in the water, I don't see why you couldn't just pour it outside, on grass, away from any type of natural water (rivers, lakes, etc). That's just a guess though, I could be wrong!

Considering you dig the clay up from the ground, you can just dump it back in the dirt.
@amandaschwarz5745
@amandaschwarz5745 3 жыл бұрын
You let the clay settle out, gently remove the top layers of water (which may still have particles, so I'd just dump outside). The clay that settles out can be collected and used in a multitude of ways

Why would you brush with vinegar before attaching the pieces to the pot? Is it preferable to slip in some way?
