(ASMR) Malice at the Palace Scandal

Soft-spoken ramble about the NBA brawl known as Malice at the Palace. Who do you think was to blame for this incident?

I think it followed from the rule changes after the Malice at the Palace, in the 2007 Western Conference Semifinals the Suns' Stoudamire and Diaw were suspended for leaving the bench. Not joining a fight, literally just stepping away from the bench toward what was happening. The Suns lost the subsequent game and just to make things a bit crazier, Tim Donaghy was involved and wrote about the series in his book.

The bench rules were established way before Malice at the Palace, and every 90s Knicks fans should know this personally because we blew a 3-1 series lead to the Miami Heat in the 1997 Eastern Conference SF. Would've been 3-2 since we were losing Game 5 but we only needed to win either Game 6 or 7 to advance. But a lot of our guys left the bench just to gawk at the fight and they got suspended. There were so many Knicks players that they had to stagger the suspensions; some suspended in Game 6, some in Game 7. But when you don't have Ewing; game over. Frickin Tim Hardaway (yes, that one. I remember seeing this back in the day, was such a wild scene. It's pretty funny having a crazy event like this talked through calmly and somehow relaxing hahaha. The suspensions were insane here too, I think still longest in NBA history?? Plus Ron Artest wasn't exactly the most chill guy around 😂

Glad you set this incident up by bringing up their previous encounter. The Malice at the Palace was a marquee nationally televised game on ESPN (and locally televised too since I see the Detroit broadcast on KZbin) so a LOT of ppl, like myself, were watching. Dunno if they watched til the end though cuz it turned into a blowout. Division rivals. And 2004 Eastern Conference Finals rematch. Crazy watching it live because once it spilled into the stands you didn't know how far or long it would escalate to. When another fight broke out on the opposite end of the court it felt like total chaos. Totally surreal. I couldn't believe I saw that live. Sportscenter was after the game but it turned into a Malice at the Palace special. Barely covered anything else. And the NFL was midseason too but it took a backseat to this. LOL got me thinking how there was no Twitter back then. It would have exploded. Back then you'd have to call someone or text them.

Very fascinating overview of one of the most infamous incidents in 21st century sports thus far. I have to say though I really only care about it insofar as the rule changes it would spur (pun intended) likely led to Steve Nash being robbed of a title. But maybe that's a story for another video. :P

Not sure if you are a big college sports fan but i got a weird ending to a game. In 1983 Ole Miss and Mississippi State were playing in the Egg Bowl the yearly rivalry college football game. MS State was going to kick a field goal to win the game, the kicker nailed the FG dead on only for the wind to just shove the ball away at the last second. Ole Miss would win due to the wind, it was known as the "Immaculate Deflection". A reporter called it the only FG where both sides cheered the same play.
