A lot were actually done in what we would retro-actively describe as “ASMR style”. It’s one of the things on the internet, like Bob Ross archives, that started getting shared around and used for tingles before even the term ASMR was created. There’s a reason why you see this cranial nerve examination in loooooaaaaddddsss of ASMR channels, because this is one of the things that created ASMR and has become synonymous with the community.
