Omg! I don’t get the people who rave about a little life! The word I use to describe it is harrowing! I think I gave it three stars, and two of those were for how well it was written!!

my close friend listened to a little life at work and said he had to take a moment to cry to himself. i asked if he thought it was something i would be able to handle reading and he confidently said "no".

A little life made me physically sick . It’s one of the most well written books that I would never suggest to someone I love.

The worst book I've ever read is a french book we had to read in high school (says a lot about our required reading here...). It's about a guy who wants to unalive himself by jumping off a cliff, but then some strange artist stops him and they make a deal : they fake the MC's death (complete with a fake funeral) and surgically turn him into a living piece of art. It's the most disturbing thing I've ever read and I despised every line. The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of my favourite classics ! But yeah there is that one chapter where it's just a list of all of the objects Dorian has acquired over the years ? Random. It's not for everyone. I just really loved the writing and the gothic vibes. I have not read any of the others, and I can safely say I would never even poke A Little Life with a stick lol. Not interested in sad stuff either.

I feel the same about A Little Life. Way way too much sadness. I have read other books by the author that I liked.

I've been wanting to read A Little Life because of all the raves. But now I am hearing the opposite. So I think I'll skip it 😅 I am currently reading Stephen King, "The Shinning." And I am really enjoying it!

yeaaahh, it just depends on what books you like to read!! i also read the shining this month!! my first stephen king book, definitely will be reading more!!

I am not a huge fan of classics neither. And in addition, the authors of the 19th century are known for their slow narrative rhythms with literary movements that emphasize on the descriptive. It 's very interesting from a historical point of view but super boring to read! XD I thought I would die of boredom reading E. Zola or even "Une vie" by Maupassant (Don't know, the english title, sorry!). Overall, I find that G. de Maupassant, O. Wilde, A. Dumas, J. Vernes and V. Hugo are the easiest to read, especially because many of their writings are adventures or fantasy (of the time)... Jane Austen and Dickens are nice (even if Charles Dickens' books are often too sad)... For my part, I hate E. Zola. I tried again last year, but I finished the book with great difficulty. At the time when I was still reading romance, I tried (like everyone else) "50 Shades of Grey" and I stopped because it was so bad. Same for "After". Unpopular opinion n°3 and 4, I don't like Lauren Oliver. I tried "Replica", "delirium", Before i fall', but I don't like the author's pen. And Twilight is a big no, too ! But I loved "The Host".
