This year made me realize that not every game has to be a soul’s-like game to be GOTY!

Personally, I loved a lot of the more story driven games this year: 1000xResist, Mouthwashing, and To The Moon Beach Episode were all phenomenal narrative focused games, and all 3 are in my top 5 of that particular genre. Nine Sols was also excellent, as was Lorelei and the Laser Eyes. Also enjoyed some of the more mainstream titles like Rebirth, Wukong and SH2; somehow I managed to hit 50 games completed this year! Cool idea for catching up on the awards/reveals and making the video at the same time though. Merry Christmas to all watching and Nick himself ofc!

If i had to recommend 2, I'd say 1000xResist and Nine Sols! But yes, definitely unusual for me to complete so many too, but cant complain when I was able to play a lot of new great games and catch up on so many old titles I missed too. Hope you're able to get more free time in the year ahead!

I share the scepticism about Nightreign; the concept is fascinating enough that it could be a solid 10 hour game, but unless they blast it out of the park it’s hard to see how the concept scales to 50 or 500 hours. Will keep an open mind about it though.

I have my fingers crossed that this is something they really want to make, and not just a quick cash-in on Elden Ring's massive popularity. We shall see!

With mafia, Mafia 1 and 2 were basically linear with an open world (where you are always on a mission and following the story but you can technically go anywhere). Mafia 3 was open world. I'm hopeful they are going back to the original way of doing things, it worked way better in my opinion. Also I am a die hard Mafia fan. (except for Mafia 3)

I can see how that would be offputting if you watch for the awards! I think it's trending in that direction because many people care only about the announcements. I personally enjoy both aspects!

Black Myth Wukong is not a Soulslike, it is a GOW like game, with a few Soulslike mechanics, that has nothing to do with the combat and overall structure.

Combat animations are the only thing I enjoy about any of the From Software games. Everything else is pretty mediocre in my opinion.

I’m just waiting on tainted grail, wayward realms, and even maybe avowed. Not enough dungeon crawlers. I don’t like souls like or roguelikes but at least alot of them are doing dungeon vibes
