I have no problem with them adding any sport to the olympics but the problem is then taking sports out for legit no reason other then politics…..

I've been looking forward to this since I heard about it a couple years ago and I'm excited to see how it goes. (Please, NBC, give a decent option for watching events online on demand!) I don't know how much mention or space it's going to get, and the last time I was excited for a new olympic event, NBC scheduled all of one game of rugby sevens on the main network and then changed their plans day of, so it may take some doing to actually watch this without have cable subscriptions to everything in the NBC Universal family of channels.

I'm a big fan of breaking so am happy to see its inclusion, though I do have mixed feelings about the commercialisation ; there's a very good article from Huck Mag from 2021 explaining that breaking spaces and funding is dwindling in Paris yet it'll be on the world stage...goes into great detail and worth the read. That aside, it's not exactly unusual to have a diverse range of sports at the Olympics - you could get a gold for Art or tug of war in early Games, so it's in keeping with the Olympic culture, albeit in a globalised, monetized world. The format sounds good but it does feel like a competition where you would want to pay a lot of attention, especially if they are both over a day each. Go Nicka! Excited to watch it, especially on mainstream television. Any other events you're looking forward to?

I WAS looking forward to women's football and Canada defending the gold medal until we were caught cheating this morning!! I think athletics events are especially well-suited to the Olympics (let's go Andre De Grasse!) I'll also have an eye on Badminton and Rugby :)

I saw the news about the drone and my immediate thought was 'Carine is gonna mad about this' Yes, very much looking forward to the athletics, especially looking out for GB, Polish and Nigerian athletes. Toni Amusan was born in the same small town in Nigeria my dad was (I also represented Nigeria at Under 18 rugby, not to brag)! So rooting for her especially. The men's rugby has started well, keeping eyes on Dupont for France. Very much looking forward to the women's, can't look past New Zealand in terms of who is likely to get the gold. Portia Woodman-Wickliffe is a joy to watch

I did NOT expect one of the biggest memes of the Olympics to come out of breaking 😭

Seriously, breakdancing in France Olympics than karate? It is a mockery and lack of respect because breakdancing is not even an Olympic sport by history, karate is an Olympic sport, even in Brazil 2016 karate was done 😢 What do you think Carine?

When the IOC voted to drop wrestling from 2016, I stopped taking event selection so seriously! It's all politics and marketing 😅

Yes, I'd have liked to see karate again at the Olympics, but it has to be said that breaking has not taken the place of karate. We could very well have had these 2 sports together at the Paris Olympics. And karate was only present at the Games in Tokyo 2021.
@Gonzalo_Almendra5 ай бұрын
@@asmrcarineI totally agree with you, it is sad what these things have been happening since 2016, the IOC is losing respect for these things and also for mixing politics, marketing and eliminating karate and wrestling in the Olympic games 😅
@Gonzalo_Almendra5 ай бұрын
@@Rhaenar In my opinion, breakdancing is not an Olympic sport. It does not even have the history to be an Olympic sport. Even karate and wrestling have more history. The IOC is losing respect worldwide due to these issues of eliminating Olympic disciplines and mixing politics 😞

Ballroom dancing to be added in 2028 then. May as well add darts, snooker, competitive eating and worm charming to the Olympics

I like the idea of Breakdancing at the Olympics. It's like something you could put in a similar category to Rhythmic Gymnastics. Those Step Up movies were the true OGs of dance before the Tiktok world. Imitating Moose's flow was no easy task when I was younger 🤣 But if we're talking dancing competitions, a Pump It Up or DDR category at the Olympics would be lit.

I still want to be Alyson Stoner when I grow up! Never mind that she's younger than me... 😂 Those DDR pros scare me! They move so fast!!

Its 2024, not 1985 NYC. Who the hell is break dancing today? Also, nots a sport. Its dance.
@jacob89495 ай бұрын
To be fair it's both. Much like rhythmic gymnastics, figure skating and synchronised swimming, which all have dance elements.
