Many therapist start by massaging the back of legs then the back and later the head, if i may ask, is there any protocol to follow or it depends with the therapist?
@MassageTherapeutics915

I think it’s a therapist preference. I like to start supine & relax the shoulders first because most people carry most of the stress on the shoulders. I also like to work the face before I work the feet. Not the other way around. Those are my reasons

There is no massage to cure varicose veins. That is already damage to the valves of the veins. Usually they do surgery to repair the valves

I have a question. As a massage therapist, my right hand always sore, tight, painful after I massage people. Now my right hand start to feel numb and tight. No matter how much I massage myself it doesn’t help. I went to get massage and it was not helping either. I dont know what’s wrong with my right hand it always hurt after massage. When I use knuckle my knuckles hurt. When I use my elbow my elbow hurt. When I use my fingers too much my fingers get tight. Right now my right neck and shoulder tight like frozen shoulder. I really like massage and helping people and people love my massage too, but I feel like I can’t continue this job for a long term but I cant let it go too because I just graduated last year. I want to open my own business but some how I feel like it can’t happen. Right now Im studying and watch your videos to help my MBlex exam. Im a right hand. How do you help yourself to night? Do you feel tight like me when you’re massage a client? Can you do a video how massage therapist take care of themselves to not tight or sore like me? Plus, I feel bad and stress to see clients feel relieved and relaxed just a few days then their pain come back again. Sometimes they complain why massage is not last long and it cost so much too.

First, I’m really sorry you’re in pain after you work! Second, there’s so many questions I would ask you if you were my client. How many massages do you do a day, How are your body mechanics, do you do only deep tissue, have you had previous injuries, sometimes the numbness is coming from the cervical are compressing a nerve. Could it be Thorasic outlet syndrome or CTS. Have you gone to the doctor to get checked. As far as your clients complaining I ask you, do you tell them they will be healed with one massage? Massage is a process of maintaining homeostasis in the body. We don’t cure or make any claims to cure anything. Specifically arthritis. How are you advertising for your work. Massage is a lifestyle. It’s something you incorporate into your lifestyle. I’ve had clients for over 20 years! They come in for maintenance & all the benefits that go with massage therapy. I hope you don’t give up on your dream job but it does sound like you definitely need to make some changes. Maybe your posture is off. You need to start investing yourself. Are you putting your hands at 90degrees pressing on the median nerve? Are you over using your thumbs? Do you have a mentor, teacher that can help you figure this out? Best of wishes for you!

Mostly I do 2hrs per person, total 6 hrs a day. I only massage 2 to 3 days but once a month or two months for now because I don’t know what’s wrong to my hands anymore. I can’t figure out. Yes, I only do deep tissue and I use 90 degrees pressing. Sometime I did burnout myself. I try to control my pressure but I think I use to deep tissue that’s why it hard for me to balance my pressure. About body mechanics I think I did a good job to balance my weight to not hurt my back and sacrum but I do have one problem that I need to improve. That is when I use my elbow to do trigger point on the shoulder and back and glutes. I use all of the pressure or the weight from my right shoulder to my hands. I cant find a solution to help me to not use strength from my right shoulder to my hand when I do trigger point. Yes, I told my clients, friends, families that massage cant cure only help them temporary. I dont have any injury. I haven’t see Dr for my problem. I dont know if Dr can help me or give any advices. Since I graduated I don’t contact my teachers much because they seems busy. They cant help me like when I was still in school. I dont have any mentors that I can talk with. I know that I need to change something but I dont know what it is. What I have to do is massage my hand almost everyday. Thanks for the reply.

@@bigminihopper4834 I think you answered some of what I suspected. 2 hour massages is a lot even if it’s only 2-3 clients a day. All deep tissue using angles that hurt your hands & shoulder. Maybe you need to cut back for a while. Your body is telling you that something is not right. I think you might be overworking your muscles & joints. Do you soak 🛁 n epsom salt? I would also incorporate some tools. you can check out the ones I use that have really saved my hands! Massagetherapeutics915.com. I thought I had to quit working because my thumbs hurt so bad. These tools saved me. Also, are you using your whole body & push with your legs or only using upper body. Check your table height, even a little bit lower so you can push with your legs. That’s important to ground & use your body not just the hands & arms. I think you just need to make some adjustments & cut back for a while until you feel better. The expectancy of massage therapists in the field is only 7 years because they either burn out or sustain injuries like what you are describing! Please take care of yourself!

@bigminihopper4834 im not a teacher by any means. But I do know from school body mechanics will save your career if done correctly. Use your body weight not so much muscles. Like standing with feet back almost like an angled plank? And let your hands move down the back with the occasional pivot. Feet further back is important to make sure its with your own weight. Frequent carpal tunnel stretches helps a lot. And what weve done is not the most pleasant but we used ice water with our forearms and hands in for 15ish to 20 min. It was miserable for sure then take them out and put them on a towel to slowly warm up then cover with the towel. It wasnt my favorite. But it helped so much. Also chiropractic adjustments. If you pinched something it can cause carpal tunnel pain.
