It's interesting that the sea biscuits represent abundance. I grew up calling the variety we have in US waters sand dollars. I guess that's how they got that name. Very interesting to learn what all these shells are used for.

I got the name wrong they are sand rollers - sea biscuits are slightly thicker

This was absolutely wonderful!!!! Something about shells have always called to me since I was a little girl as well. The two kinds that called to me in this video are the miter shells and tiger cowries. Which is fitting as I’m currently in a spiritual change and seeking more abundance. Just lovely! Will be returning to this again and again.

Hi Sarah. The reason they’re not called Tiger cowries is because in Yoruba language, there’s actually no such word to differentiate a tiger from a leopard or panther or Jaguar. It’s just one word for a “marked cat”. So, it actually does mean Leopard shell, because it’s native meaning is literally just a shell that resembles “the Hyde of a marked cat”.
@Reikidreams9112 жыл бұрын
Oh wow thank you. I have pondered this fact for nearly 20 years! Do you know it’s name in Yoruba by any chance pls? 🙏🏻
@angelchimellis29012 жыл бұрын
@@Reikidreams911 Hi Sarah. The Yoruba word for Tiger/Patterned cat would be Ekún and a shell is Eyé. If the cowrie is whole it’s called Ekún Eyé. In ancient, pre-colonial times, the backless cowry shell was used as a form of currency and were called OWÓ (word for money) Eyé (shell). Hence why another common name for cowrie shells (the ones that are white with yellow coloration around the mouth) is the “Money Cowrie” or “Moneta Cowrie”.

Sarah are there any shells, corals or anything from the sea that you would love to add to your collection (nothing illegal or endangered)? And how do you get shells from all around the world? Friends send them or do you pick them up on holidays (when we're not in a global pandemic)? Does Oceanic Reki also use fossilized shells like ammonites and found sea animal bones, tusks or teeth?
@Reikidreams9113 жыл бұрын
Gosh there are soo many - there is a special shell which I just can’t afford that is tiny from India which represents a Goddess but I forget which one as I couldn’t afford it (£300) I put it out of my head. There are many many. I will show another video of my votive shells which represent gods and temple trumpets another time. Yes the Masters group discovered that fossils have huge healing potential so we had to write a new part to the course. They are very strong and very effective. I also use fossilised plants in Celtic Reiki In regards to collection. I have been collecting since age 6. I grew up in Bermuda so plenty of shells and corals about. Unfortunately we were cutting the coral in the 70’s before we knew the importance of the reef and it became illegal. I now hope to make amends by putting them to good use in healing and when I die they will be left to the local museum for education - it’s already in my will. I now collect from thrift shops.

It took me awhile to know what you meant by "sea biscuits" lol I don't know if it's an American thing but we call them sandollars.

I was drawn to the scallops from the beginning...is there a meaning for picking them? And I was drawn to the basket...is there a story for the basket? It looks hand woven. Thanks for this lovely video.
@Reikidreams9113 жыл бұрын
Scallops stand for a journey or quest as it was a pilgrimage shell in Santiago de Compostela and I believe many slaves graves in the southern US are adorned with them and also it represents Venus/Aphrodite to me because of the Botticelli painting. So these shells have many different cultural references. It would depend on the person choosing it and their situation. The basket was my dog’s toy basket lol

very sweet sounds to my ears.. just so you know, you can refer to the shape as vulvas because that's a more accurate referral.. calling them female parts excludes the millions of gnc people and trans men with vulvas
