Your pace and cadence was fantastic here. You weren't afraid of a small pause here and there. Instead of forced triggers and rambling, you focus on a smooth calm delivery. Another great episode.

Appreciate that feedback! After ~2.5 years of doing this, pacing/cadence is still the biggest struggle for me. Glad to hear that this one worked for you!

Love this idea, love this video. So nice (and surprising!) to see this atlas showing up on this channel too.😍 The way you pay attention to details is just so charming. Looking forward to part 2 of this video. Btw Fantastic to hear the story about j g bartholomew!

Yes, I was just as surprised when Kev contacted me and offered to send the atlas along! I hope the first half has done it justice, and has complimented his own videos well. As soon as I can get some quiet time around here (it’s spring break week, kids home from school!), I’ll get Part 2 going. Wonderful to hear from you, as always! Hope you’re keeping well.

I started watching this literally years ago, and fell asleep to the cadence of your voice. Came across this just today and had to finish. :) I love old books, and I love the original cover on this one! You have a gift for explaining details of the items or places you’re exploring in every video and though I haven’t watched your videos in far too long, it’s a delight to rediscover you…just like rediscovering a little gem of a book. ❤ I hope you’re doing well!

Hey GL, this was fantastic. I sat up watching it from beginning to end. Its funny how different a video you made with the same book that I spent hours looking at. Without giving any spoilers; I'll have to contact that eBay seller about the item description, and I didn't "not show you" the real cover as I never even thought of doing so. I thought the book would have fallen apart. This is a brilliant, brilliant video and I'm looking forward to part 2. Also, on a completely different topic for an upcoming video for you to do: ASMR How My Nails Look So Tidy.

Kev!!! So glad to see you here, and thanks again for sending this little artifact along. Getting to know it a bit better has been a wonderful project. To your point - you are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT about the book falling apart without the DIY cover. I don’t know how clear it was in the video, but the book does actually separate into two parts without that extra cover. All of the page bundles that have the maps on them have completely separated from the binding, and the front cover is no longer attached to the spine, so the cover and all the maps are not attached to the rest of the book in any way. BUT, this gave me one other idea I wanted to investigate before filming Part 2, which is why there will be a bit of a delay between the two. If it works out, it could be super cool. [ Stop dropping spoilers, Gaslamp! ]

Well it's amazing to be checking out your videos again buddy! However nowhere near as amazing seeing all of your quality work with thousands of views. I remember way back when we couldn't understand why some of your videos didn't make even 50 views. Now here you are with a minimum of 1000 on each. It's still a fraction of what you deserve but something to think on :)

Hi Gaslamp! I've found some actual evening time (that's not at least a month after the video has gone up) to watch this properly. Wow. Just wow. This was fantastic. I hadn't actually felt any tingles in quite a while. But this had me tingling pretty hard the whole time. It was just a treat, as you would say. As for the book: maybe Baumgartner Restoration would be able to help? :-)

Supernova, thanks for letting me know this! I generally assume most folks are here for things other than tingles, so it is fantastic to know that there are still some triggering moments floating around in there. And BAUMGARTNER!!! Heck yes. Have you seen the new weekly series he started? (About the book, I’m making some inquiries, but that’s all I can say for now. Not with Baumgartner, of course. But inquiries. ;-)

OH MY GOSH!!!! Look at handwritten "This book belongs to..." and it says they came from "Lewes" (pronounced "Lewis"). Now, I was assuming that was possibly Lewes, Delaware... however, the book was published in England, so I am wondering if it is Lewes, Sussex, England (about 8 miles from Brighton on the south coast.) And guess what? Lewes is where I live here in England! You mention about the temporary covering of the atlas being wallpaper, and this may give a clue as to why it was covered, which *may not* because it was in poor condition. Even in my school days (in the 1970s and '80s) it was the practice of teachers telling school children to cover their books (normally just their exercise books, though). And it was usually the case that most children would simply use wallpaper.
@GaslampASMR5 жыл бұрын
Hello there RF! Lewes, indeed! Small world, eh? I am sure that this is the Lewes in Sussex, since TheWhisperCorner sent this to me from Ireland. In fact, if you watch Kev's first video on this atlas, and look at the part where he talks about the handwritten note, he looks Lewes up in the gazetteer as part of the video (what he mutters to himself during this section is one of the funnier bits, and made me laugh out loud, actually! ;-)Very interesting point about using wallpaper to cover exercise books, though! This atlas definitely benefitted from having the extra cover, however, because it does separate into two pieces without it. Will plan a Junk Drawer video about the atlas' condition very soon. Good to see you!

Edit. Spoiler alert! :-) Great unpacking. It felt surprisingly nice to see the old cover, not a picture of it from some sight on the internet but the actual cover of just that little atlas.
@GaslampASMR5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I completely agree. It was such a surprise to see that it was still there. Looking back at Kev’s vids, I realize now that if I had paid a little closer attention to certain parts, I would have seen little glimpses that would have revealed that the cover was still there, but I’m kinda glad that I missed those the first time. It was cool doing a reveal in the vid. I may do a Junk Drawer video on the current condition of the book, as well.
