It is always fascinating hearing the varieties on "Down by the banks" the way we always played it at the daycare was "Down by the banks of the hankie pankie where the bullfrogs jumped from bank to bank saying eeps, ipes, opes, ops, jumped off the lilypad and goes ker-plop" and on 'ker-plop' is when you tried to take out someone and with each takeout the song sped up.
@emmarogers87602 жыл бұрын
That’s so fun, ours was so long by comparison- “Down by the banks of the hanky panky where the bullfrogs jumped from bank to bank saying A E I O U, micheal Jordan went to town Coca Cola shot him down, Mountain Dew shot him up, now we’re talking seven up, seven up has no caffeine now we’re talking billy Jean, billy Jean went down the street singing do a diddy diddy dum diddy do, singing do a diddy diddy dum diddy DO” and slap on the last do

Did anyone ever do the hand game where the other person was supposed to think of a number before you started, then you'd slap their hands, run a finger down each of their fingers, squeeze the individual finger segements etc. All the asking which hurt the most, tickled the most, etc narrowing down to an individual segement on one finger which you would then squeeze and look for a number in the pattern of their skin? And it was supposed to be the number they were thinking of at the beginning.

The amount of nostalgia this video made me feel is immense, thinking about all the hand games I used to play with my friends as a kid, some similar to these, some identical, with the exception of the language of course (I'm Italian 🇮🇹). I loved it, and also really enjoyed all the face touching in this, and the "Let me take my rings off so I don't hit you in the face with them." when you started playing, very thoughtful. Bringing back memories! Our bubble gum game was a fist game. Everyone would gather in a circle with both of their fists out, sing the rhyme, but on "wish" the person it landed on would say a number. Then the idk "initiator" would tap out that number, and if it landed on your fist you had to put I behind your back. Two fists out, meant you were out, and whoever was the final person was the seeker (we used it to determine hide n seek a lot, lol).

the only hand game I remember from the elementary school was the "egg on your head, running down your spine." But it wasn't the G rated game, it was an axe in your head, the blood running down. zombie breath on your neck. Knife in your back maybe? it's been a while. That, and lice checks, were my early ASMR-without-knowing-what-ASMR-was tingles

@@tigokooreman9912 aw that’s so sweet of you, thanks for asking qwq actually person that I loved and trusted with my life just cut me off her life like I was nothing and she never actually cared about me. I’m still kinda shocked and don’t fully understand what happened and why, scary feeling of derealisation. We’ve been with each other every second of life for 6 months and a half, and I got as used to this, as if you have been living in your family house since you were born, now you’re 25 and all of a sudden house just burned down with all your goods and memories, and you’re completely lost. Now I don’t have someone to talk to, someone that loves me, cares about me, would listen to me for hours knowing how that is important to me and respects my interests. I’m shaking and crying, having panic attacks and endless anxiety wondering what I’m living for and how can I live while I’m addicted to people’s opinions and communication. I don’t know how to trust others now, seems like everyone hating me or like I’m not exiting, like I’m trash. I was so scared to be alone and now I am alone, crying silently and really scared I’m really sorry that you got to read this one, and I’ll actually be surprised if you will read it. Thank you so much:(

@ross.04692 жыл бұрын
Omg! These versions of these are different from what I’ve learned when I was little! The down by the bank one was cool though mine was much shorter, it went “down by the bank by the hanky panky, where the bullfrogs jump from bank to bank, and it’s a skip, hop, diddly dop, one jumps over and the other goes pop” and who ever said pop had to slap the hand of the person who was next in the circle before they pulled away. If they got their hand slapped they were out!
@kaisura1mu2 жыл бұрын
mine was “down by the river with the hanky pank, where the bullfrogs jumped from bank to back, saying eep opp eep opp opp, skiddle diddle pumpkin pie, ask the teacher what to wear - polka dotted underwear!” and then we counted to ten

Pretty sure me and my sister had that EXACT set of toy dogs when we were younger. She was obsessed with dogs. I think I remember most of their names, too. The bernese mountain dog was named Rosie. She was married to a border Collie named Carl and had two daughters who were beagles (don't ask, I was four) who came from another set. The beagles were named Tara and Shiloh. Shiloh was my self-insert, which was pretty obvious because she shared my name. The german shepards were married. I think their names were Mallory and Sterling. Mallory was my sister's self-insert. They had two kids. Those kids were the corgies. (again, I was four) The corgies were named Carpet and Jack. The golden retriever was named Daniel. He was the single father of the two golden retriever puppies and also a third golden retriever who came from another set. Their names were Polly, Aliyah, and Lily. The dalmatian was named Pablo. He had a wife and child who came from a different set. His wife's name was Charlotte and his daughter's name was Sofie. I also had a few others from the other set. There was a sheepdog named Granny who had a grandson named Max. Max was a terrier. I think there was a mastiff named Jasper who had a dachsund for a daughter. That's all I can remember right now, but I'm sure there were more.

the two hand games that I remember the most are Ms. Susie and Boboskiwatan Tatan (I think it how it's spelled) and I always learned Ms. Susie like this: "Ms. Susie had a steamboat, the steamboat had a bell, Ms. Susie went to heaven, the steamboat went to- Hello operator, give me number nine, if you disconnect me, I'll chop off your- behind the 'fridgerator, there was a piece of glass, Ms. Susie sat apon it and broke her little- ask me no more questions, tell me no more lies, the boys are in the bathroom, zipping up their- flies are in the meadow, bees are in the park, Ms. Susie and her boyfriend are kissing in the D-A-R-K, D-A-R-K, DARK DARK DARK- is like a movie, a movie's like a show, a show is like a TV screen and that is all I Know, Know, Know

I learned it as Miss Lucy and her steamboat! The end was "the boys and girls are kissing in the D A R K D A R K dark dark dark" But then my little sister taught me how some of these rhymes have changed NOW and they're even MORE different! So I'm not even surprised anymore just tired 😂

This is amazing, and definitely a wave of nostalgia that's heartwarming! It's also interesting to hear a couple of these hand games cause I noticed a few of them have different words than to the ones I learned at my elementary school. I think out of all the hand games I know, Elevator will always be my favourite. Also, the one that you mentioned that didn't have words- from where I was taught they called it Slide, I think.
