This soft spoken history ASMR podcast explores the fascinating and atmospheric world of gothic. Together, we'll trace the origins of gothic style, in medieval French architecture, then follow it through to the Gothic Revival of the 18th and 19th centuries, and discover its impact on the bohemian Romantic movement that flourished under Lord Byron and Mary Shelley. We'll then take a look at Bram Stoker's Dracula and explore its influence on 20th and 21st century gothic - from the films of Bela Lugosi to the modern gothic subculture that continues to create its own, unique music, fashion and art.
#SoundsCurious is a youtube channel dedicated to audio adventures... as someone who experiences ASMR (and also uses audio to help me sleep), my aim with these videos is to provide you with a deeply relaxing experience that can help you to sleep, or feel rested and refreshed - as well as triggering some tingles! Balancing soft and calming vocals with informative content, my favourite topics for videos are history, culture, literature, the fine and decorative arts... and whatever else takes my fancy :-) Subscribe to the Sounds Curious channel for updates on the latest videos - and don't forget to say hello on social...

No disrespect to French whisperer, he's got good content too, but I prefer this. Your voice is rich, deep, and smooth, like if a glass of wine could talk me into a satin armchair and threaten to sacrifice my blood at the same time, but in a good way.

I never realized how much I wanted this until I saw the title. It's amusing that the person who usually narrates upper-class buildings in a posh RP accent was a goth. Brian Aldiss in "Billion Year Spree" claims "Frankenstein" was the first science-fiction novel, because it used pseudoscience rather than magic or spirits. I was one of a number of skinheads in goth/industrial clubs so I saw a lot of overlap. And darkwave bands seem to be the only ones holding up the 1980s new-wave rythms I've always liked. It''s so dark it's hard not to call it "goth", because strictly speaking I'm still not a goth and don't like the most gothic features (flowing music, vampires, 18th-century costumes, dark lyrics), but it's hard not to call what I do like "goth" because it's so emneshed in it.
@SoundsCurious
@SoundsCurious 2 жыл бұрын
Well, my thought is, if you want to identify as a goth - even if you don't like most conventional gothic features - then you should. And if you don't want to, then don't. The joy of it is, it's an inclusive enough cultural movement to embrace all of us who feel an affinity with it :) I'm glad you enjoyed the video!

Love your narration style! Aside from a few “uhm” and “eeh” you sound like an outright professional. I just wish you could interpose some pauses once in a while, where it’s absolutely quiet for a few seconds. That would intensify the ASMR effect. Looking forward to your next upload.
@SoundsCurious
@SoundsCurious 5 жыл бұрын
You might want to check out some of my early videos, which were scripted, so they are less casual in their delivery - and I think the pauses might be slightly longer, too, on some of them at least. The French Whisperer gave me early advice to ditch the scripts and speak in a less 'polished' way (because yes, I do sometimes record professional audiobooks), so that's what I've done... and with that comes the 'uhms' that occur when I'm thinking! Also, my pauses tend to be shorter when I'm speaking off the cuff - so those earlier videos might appeal to you. Thanks for the support and constructive feedback.

In the very early days there was no significant differences between the Ostrogoths and the Visigoths. They considered themselves "The Goths" and the prefixes Ostro(meaning Eastern) and Visi(meaning Western) were only added later after they had settled in different regions. The Goths were just like any other of 1000 tribes the Roman Empire faced they jus happened to come to prominence at the perfect time to fill in the gaps left behind by the Romans allowing for this specialisation, that other tribes like Batavii, Nervii or Belgii.
