You could try eating those soft peppermint candies! They have a similar texture and are usually white on the inside, so they’d look a lot like this chalk

Chalk is safe to eat (non-toxic) but poisonous in large amounts, safer to go with smarties or tums depending on your hardness preference. Edible chalk is also a thing, made of plant fibres or something. Fun fact: humans have been eating clay, mud / dirt, chalk and other minerals for centuries, even going as far as to make them into proper dishes like dirt cookies
