Man, I miss the 90s and early 2000s and VHS tapes. I was only there for the tail end of the VHS era, but I have wonderful memories of those black bricks. The sounds of the tape player, the distorted images on screen as the tape rewound, watching back F1 races and episodes of Star Trek with my dad. Wonderful stuff.

As someone who worked in a small town video store in the 90’s, yay. That store is still open today renting movies, both VHS and DVD. He has the movies he got in 1983 still for rent.
@marabuora95472 сағат бұрын
Do they still work? Many of my tapes from when I was a kid are all ruined because they're so old... And I mean tapes from the early two thousands, not the ninenties

This was so cozy and reminded me of our local video store growing up. It was a tiny little hole in the wall next to the supermarket where we shopped. It was such a treat to rent a VHS tape or an NES game. The trick was to rent it on Friday afternoon, so it wasn't due till Monday morning.

Something 90s kids know and understand, "Please be kind and rewind." You have Air Force One...that's one of my fav movies!😁 It's funny you mentioned Titanic bc I've been so intrigued with the Titanic since I was a kid and the movie came out on my birthday that year (I turned 8 that day). The only movie I've ever seen in theaters that was so long it had an intermission. When the steamy scene happened, my mom gasped and covered my eyes. 😂

I don't know if I miss video rental stores or if I just miss J.R.'s. It wasn't much more than a hole in the wall, with rough floors and simple wood shelves, packed with movies. To me, though, it was a magical place, where I could always count on finding some odd treasure. J.R. was my cousin, he owned the place and was approximately the coolest dude ever. He was younger than I am now when his heart gave out, a lasting memento from a childhood bout of strep throat.

I feel you, my brother and I had collected an entire moving box full of first edition mint comics; Spiderman (3 different versions), Superman, Conan the Barbarian, loads of others. Anyway we stayed out too late one weekend and came home to her having sent the entire box off with the garbage man. She even told us he had set it in the seat, not the back, because his son loved comics. Joke was on her years later when she found out the garbage man's son, who lived two streets over, sold them all in an auction for over $800,000. We weren't happy about it either.
