My sister had a recent experience like this! She was on her way to work and came up on a car that had lost control and flipped over on the side of a 2 lane rural highway. She said she didn’t even think, she just pulled over and immediately went over to help, as did someone else. There were two little kiddos who crawled out that looked to be about under 5 years old, both physically okay but obviously very scared, that she held and comforted until first responders came. Like you, she was super shaken up but we discussed what a testament to her character it was that she immediately jumped to action when she saw someone in need. You’re good people, and you probably made a huge difference in the life of S 👏

I cried watching this. I could feel your emotions throughout. It's devastating that nobody stopped to help. I couldn't drive past somebody in need. I really believe sometimes we are where we are meant to be at exactly the right time. Your little boy will grow up to help people too because children learn what they live don't they? That man will never forget you. When I was first driving, I rounded a corner and there was a loose horse in the road. I served and ended up embedded in a lamp post. I was so shaken, so tearful and a man stopped and got out of his car and screamed in my face that I must have been driving too fast, which was simply not true. Dozens of cars drove past looking at me sobbing on the side of the road and bleeding from a superficial cut on my head and nobody stopped. But one kind lady who lived nearby walked over the road to collect me, took me back to her house, wrapped me in a blanket and gave me sweet tea until the emergency services arrived. I've never forgotten her. Those are the true hero's. I've raised my children to help anyone in need and I think the world just needs more kind people xx

Strangely the very day you posted this, my 21 Yr old son was late home from work and it turned out he had been driving through a heavily wooded area and come across a car that had hit a tree. He stopped and helped and the man was OK but the car was a complete wreck. He stayed with him until the emergency services arrived. I am so glad he was able to help and what a coincidence that this literally happened the same day I had watched this video x

my mum has always shown bravery, that i admire greatly, stepping in and helping in situations needed. Stopping for animals that have been hit and taking them to the vet, stepping in when she witnessed a boy being physically bullied and pulling over whenever she sees a crashed car alone. For a single woman who’s only 5 foot she stands up for people and what she feels is right. The same with my grandma, who’s 86 and last year helped a teenager who was among friends but had reacted badly to substance abuse. It’s made such an impact that i often find myself being the first person to react in a bad situation and checking on people who don’t look to well. I’m sure it will have equally a big impact on your son, and that he will grow to be equally as caring and brave as you.

Unfortunately, there’s thing called bystander effect where people are less likely to help when other people are also around. Everyone automatically assumes someone will help, so they don’t help. In my opinion, it’s worsened now because everyone prefers to post it online instead of helping. I never understood it. Thank you for sharing this story with us. You’re that man’s hero. ✨✨✨

Also I think a lot of people just freeze in emergencies. That's why they advise people to be like "hey man in the green shirt, call 911" instead of just "somebody call 911!", because people are more likely to actually do something if directly told to.

For sure. My mom taught me when I was younger if something was happening to yell out for a fire because most people will respond to a fire and help with that, but assault or anything else people tend to not want to be involved.

I’ve watched this video so many times since you posted it. Yesterday, I called 911 and pulled over to help a person who was driving erratically and eventually crashed on the freeway. There were about 5 of us who stopped and I was so encouraged to know that there are kind and helpful people out there! I had you and this story in mind the whole time. I knew I couldn’t just drive by and ignore what was happening. It did not end as well as your situation did, but I will keep stopping and helping because of you. Thank you 💖

I was about 6 years old and got seperated from my parents at a very large event (like 100,000 people type deal) I did the only thing I knew how to do which was cry. I did my best to look as scared as possible in hopes that another mom/dad would see me and help. I walked around by myself for at least 20 minutes past tons of families. One lady actually looked me dead in the face, looked me up and down, amd turned away. Surprisingly a young couple (who didn't have kids) finally asked if I was lost and needed help. Everything worked out ok, but to this day I still can remember that exactly lady that completely ignored me looked like. I can understand the hesitation of not wanting to help, but as a mom it still bothers me lol

I think some of us just act on instinct and others are bystanders. Probably something to do with how we're raised, in a fearful anxiety driven family or an action oriented family. My friends say that I "run to the danger" while they run away, like you, I don't even think, I just act. A guy in my neighborhood crashed is motorcycle into a van and had a compound fracture in his leg. I immediately ran to the sound of crash and made him comfortable and told people to call 911, get a blanket, move the motorcycle out of the way etc. I'm sure you had a touch of PTSD just from the incident itself, how interesting that you and his partner share the same name! Like divine intervention.

My mom's car just broke down one Sunday, late afternoon, on the highway. Because of some DUMB STUFF we had to wait like an hour and a half for a tow truck to show up. So we were ultimately sitting there in a broken down car on the side of a busy highway in broad daylight for two hours, and TWO people stopped - one of them was a police officer who made sure we felt safe and we had a tow truck coming and told us to call 911 if we ended up needing to, and one of them was a very polite young man with broken English who asked if we needed a jumpstart or anything. We were like 15 minutes away from our apartment so it was very irritating, but also it's kind of appalling that for two hours, only two people pulled over to ask an old lady if she needed help on the side of the road. But I get it - people just don't want to get involved in something that might turn out to be dramatic and they assume someone else has it covered. We all like to think that if some emergency happened we'd jump into action and be the hero, but in reality there's some kind of wild disconnect that happens in most of our brains that's like "oh an emergency, that's so scary aaaaaaaahhh let's move along". I think there's some kind of self-preservation ancient animal instinct that's responsible for it, like how in the animal kingdom if some animal is in danger the other animals in the pack/herd/group might just be like "sucks for you" and leave the situation. I just heard the other day about some alligator that was eating a pigeon once, and there was a pigeon right next to them as it was happening and the pigeon didn't even look alarmed. I mean there's nothing a pigeon can do if an alligator is eating another pigeon, but even in the animal kingdom you've got creatures that are just like "oh, danger. I'll just... not do anything." I mean it didn't even leave, right?
@greenbeautyASMR
@greenbeautyASMR 3 жыл бұрын
So well put. I lold at the pigeon just watching as his pigeon friend was eaten 😳😂 But you’re right, there’s several reasons why people don’t intervene, some of which can be evolutionary. I’m glad that at least two ppl stopped (instead of zero). Hope your mom got the car stuff figured out, that must been unsettling sitting on the side of the hwy for two hours!!

Reminds me of one accident I witnessed a few years ago. My dad was the driver and I the passenger. I heard a loud thud of steele near us. I looked around and realized an old man had crashed right infront of us but on the side of the rode. His car was over the pavement. To my surprise he reversed back and began to continue driving forward as his car was fully damaged. One of his loose car parts began to drag across the road (my dad and I still behind) with a loud screeching noise. To my shock he once again crashed onto a lamp post. I was mortified because smoke began to rise. I quickly shouted at my dad "Stop the car! Let's help him! He crashed again!!" Believe me, my dad suddenly quickly sped off before I opened my car door to assist the man. We left the poor old man behind in smoke and all. I was deeply upset at my dad for doing such atrocious act. He claimed that he refused to get us involved because if something had gone horribly wrong, Id be the one to blame and his family might've sued me. He often discourages me to help anyone out otherwise I will get crucified. I highly disagree and regardless I still help when I must. To each their own. This possibly might give you an insight on what those bystanders are possibly thinking when refusing to help. I also hope that old man who crashed was fine. I can only hope.

What happened to you at the mall happened to me once. What happens when you come to tells alot about what caused it .. Like they will ask were you confused or not. Did you come right to? And so on. The sweating part .... says you may ha e passed a blood clot. This is how they explained it to me. I had been in a car accident many months earlier ...where I smashed my head bad. When I said it was months ago they said it could happen up to 5yrs later. Scary part is ...yes . it could kill you 5yrs later. So maybe my story might help you figure out what happened that day to you at the mall. The sweating was awful. I never felt so HOT. I was ready to tear my clothes off before it passed. Then I was like.. WTF was that?!!
