Laura hesitated before leaning down, her hair cascading over his chest as she pressed her ear to the puncture site. "She listened," Laura whispered, her voice barely audible. "She waited for his heart to stop. That’s why we found her hair here." When Laura sat back, she adjusted her skirt once more, smoothing it over her thighs as she climbed off the bed. "She left him like this," Laura said, her tone quiet but firm. "Completely vulnerable. Utterly at her mercy." Evelyn took one last photograph before setting her camera down. "This wasn’t just a murder," she said grimly. "This was her masterpiece." Laura nodded, her gaze lingering on the body. "And he was her unwitting canvas."
