Hi guys! Very sorry this video is up so late. Had some internet issues today and had to re-upload. Thanks for your patience, and I sincerely hope you enjoy the video! 😊

I'm always blown away by how these older games could look with mods

There are many games that have been upgraded to look like very modern titles. Using the Construction Set for Oblivion also surprises me in how quickly I can make believable and beautiful terrain or the exteriors of cities. The tough part comes from detailing, quests and the like.

I never played much Skyrim but I played an absurd amount of Oblivion so these videos are so perfect for me. Just as relaxing as the Skyrim wanders but with an extra dose of nostalgia and familiarity. Thank you!

Yes more Oblivion! I have been patiently waiting for this, and I'm really hoping you also take us back to Morrowind. I just started my first ever playthrough and I'm enjoying it quite well without any mods and I must say it's still got such an amazing look and atmosphere. Someday I'll actually sit down and take the time to learn how to properly mod the game so I can get it looking as good as yours!
@theASMRnerd4 жыл бұрын
There'll definitely be more Morrowind! In fact, I've been streaming it on Twitch quite a bit, and I'll probably play it again tonight!

What a coincidence! Modding Oblivion is certainly a journey haha
@ruubenrajasoo13964 жыл бұрын
Why is it so difficult to mod Oblivion!? Haha
@willl6764 жыл бұрын
@@ruubenrajasoo1396 A mix of things really. For one, I'd say that in several years of experience modding games using the Creation Engine, Oblivion certainly is the most touchy out of them all, since it doesn't handle resource intensive situations really well. Install heavy mods like Better Cities or Unique Landscapes and then drop some 60 other mods on top of it and you'll quickly reach the game's RAM usage limit. And secondly I'd say it's the issues regarding the Steam version of the game. A bit of a lengthy backstory is necessary, so bear with me. As you may know, many mods for Oblivion require OBSE (Oblivion Script Extender) which allow for many new functions (and thus an entirely new arsenal) for modders to use, extending the capabilities of Bethesda's scripting engine and allowing for many incredible mods that otherwise wouldn't be possible. Then you have mod managers, such as Wrye Bash, Vortex or Mod Organizer 2 (my preferred mod manager), that allow users not only to install mods in a safer and more convenient manner but effectively make the use of large amounts of mods possible. This is where Steam enters into play. Steam has a bunch of processes running on the background making sure its numerous moving pieces (such as the Steam Overlay) are running and working as intended in the games made available on their platform. This usually works flawlessly but with Oblivion it interferes with the way OBSE injects its necessary libraries into the game and, in the specific case of Mod Organizer 2, with the way it hooks itself onto the game allowing Oblivion to recognize all the mods you have installed via your mod manager. This hook.dll library is especially necessary with MO2, since all mods are installed on a virtual folder completely separate from the game's files (which is amazingly handy, since it means that if you screw up your installation of any mod you can just go and remove the folder, instead of having to parse through a jumble of files or completely reinstall the game), however as mentioned, it means that the manager requires this library to work in order to have the game recognize the mods you have installed. In order to get this to work I had to use one of Mod Organizer's handy tools, that manually forces the OBSE libraries to load in Oblivion's executables, except this wasn't enough to get the game to recognize my mods. So I had to use yet another workaround by having Mod Organizer add Steam as an executable that I can run from the mod manager, with the following line of arguments added "-applaunch 22330". This effectively means that once MO2 opens Steam it will also automatically run Oblivion at the same time before Steam has the chance to properly run its processes that interfere with OBSE and the mod manager (the code 22330 is Steam's store code for the product). So yeah, kind of complicated as you can realize.

Haha yes, I believe that's the "Sound of Cyrodiil" mod. It adds a whole bunch of ambient sounds to the game to make it feel more alive, and most are very good, but a few stick out like a sore thumb, such as all the shouting in the Imperial City :P

@Crynaotlod Better quests huh? How so? Just more meaningful? I will admit, as much as I love Skyrim, I don't love many quests and I just love the journey and the wandering. I bought and downloaded Oblivion. But I just ended up playing Skyrim today instead of starting it. 😝
@ryansimpson22414 жыл бұрын
I've never played Oblivion so forgive my lack of knowledge but what exactly did you mean by aliens? Are you talking about the Dwemer because we know of them but no one has seen them in Tamriel in centuries? Or like aliens like we see in pop culture and media?

Haha I knew people would mis-hear it. I was saying "Ayleids", but it sounds a lot like "aliens". The Ayleids were a race of elves that ruled over Cyrodiil in the ancient past, and their ruins are scattered about the game.

The lack of life in these games (compared to Witcher 3 for instance) is what always let the Elder Scrolls games down. Even Skyrim was a relatively lifeless world
@theASMRnerd3 жыл бұрын
Interesting take! In what way do you mean lifeless? The older ES games can feel a bit lifeless, but that's mostly to do with technological limitations I think. I always felt like Skyrim was quite alive, and mods can definitely help in that regard too.
