Your commentary on Alaska’s map location makes me laugh. I think it should help explain why we in the US have trouble grasping geography. We cover up the countries around us with insets of our non-contiguous states and then don’t teach how to read a map. It is also why we struggle to grasp the size of Alaska.
@MS-uj5ui2 жыл бұрын
I was taught both geography and how to read a map. Most people were. It’s the remembering part and the fact that it’s not reinforced at all by parents that is the issue. My mom and stepdad were both in the military, and both of my dads liked to hunt. It’s mostly parents not teaching their kids any useful skills at all and expecting the schools to do it and somehow apply it without their help.
@ASMRctica2 жыл бұрын
I guess most US maps are designed like this for practical reasons, but in this particular situation, solving a puzzle, if felt a bit odd to look for Alaska in the southwest instead of nortwest 😁
@ItMeSinamenRoll2 жыл бұрын
@@ASMRctica yes, it is odd. I’ve seen some more recently that put Alaska and Hawaii in the Gulf of Mexico, which is even stranger.

Bro what? I’ve never had one problem with this shit. I just think America is lazy, our country needs some sort of problem to make life tougher. And not infatuation, like having to walk places.
@ItMeSinamenRoll2 жыл бұрын
@@nomorecomply4044 so many people don’t know where Alaska or Hawaii is because of these little boxes. It’s not that we don’t have real problems, it’s that the real problems we have are education-related.

The shapes of this puzzle are funny. The don’t look like the real shapes of the states, but they also don’t look like puzzle pieces. Just kind of lumpy areas around the state’s borders. I think it makes the puzzle too easy compared to normal pieces, but it doesn’t teach how to recognize the state by size and shape (I had a similar puzzle as a kid that had the pieces shaped like the states that I liked a lot)

Having Alaska down in the corner is the reason why many people are confused when someone says they are going to “drive” to Alaska.😂
@MmeAdmin2 жыл бұрын
Kind of a disservice the map makers did for anyone who build this. That each puzzle could be the shape of a state but likely isn't. It's similar to having a bunch of words coloured differently than they read (ie "orange" string is coloured yellow and "blue" string is coloured purple, etc). In the same vein, each state shape could be the shape of a give puzzle piece which lowers the usefulness of identifying boundaries. Maybe you have some gifts to ignore the physicality of the puzzle, but not everyone does.
@ASMRctica2 жыл бұрын
Hey, Thanks for the interesting thoughts :) Maybe it's difficult to create a puzzle that follows borders exactly. For example the narrow pan handles an features like that would probably make the pieces more difficult to handle. I've seen puzzles of Japan that follows the prefectures more exactly, and those puzzles looks really nice.
