Only cause I know from my dad Ac isn't included in most inspections unless you ask. It's honestly considered a luxury so it doesn't HAVE to be working when you move in the way electric or plumbing have to, which is why most properties will not offer to inspect it before move in, especially if within your lease you're responsible for maintenance It sucks they'd hide that in your lease and not be up front bc a filter is under $100 (depends on the unit, they're usually less) but repairing an ac unit bc the air going thru it isn't filtered will cost thousands of dollars They leave it up to you for maintenance bc the idea is that you schedule it at your convenience rather than them sending a stranger to your home, also you'd know quicker if your ac is having a problem (like in this situation) so it would be rather impossible for the property managers to keep up with your system in terms of problems If you think this fits them: they might've kept it in the dl in the hopes that y'all would take the l for it Always be skeptical Y'all already pay rent which is marked up for their profit, so they need to maintain their building Now you know next time to specifically ask about the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) system
