You know, everybody stereotypes predators as violent, predators fight for territory or to protect their young and kill to eat; non-predators fight for the same reasons, and kill for fun, out of annoyance, or out of irrational fear.

Yea lol I've seen some herbivores just kill for the fun of it. Cows, horses, elephants, moose, buffalo. They weren't threatened at all and just killed a weaker and far more harmless animal. Bulls are ridiculously aggressive sometimes 😂 i honestly dont believe beings that haven't moved past the incredibly primitive mindset of "predator and prey" would develop an advanced civilization beyond tribal gatherers. Herbivores could for sure but one that views themselves as prey would die out quickly. Humans arent naturally predators, we became predators. We are both. Aussies know this 😂 no predators other than a croc that you couldn't beat in a fight or fight off. But a kangaroo will mess your ass up 😂 but all it takes it to not watch where you're putting your feet and bam, you just got bit by an eastern brown snake at your doorstep and didnt feel it, 40 mins later you're dead. 😅 when/if humans ever become space faring adventurers, aussies should be the ones cataloging creatures of other planets, a BUNCH of us will die but that's the way it goes 😂 steve irwin in space would be an awesome show 😂🎉

my only issue is that the author keeps referring to railguns as energy weapons. They do take a lot of energy to fire, but railguns shoot a solid slug of metal using electric currents to create magnetic fields, which in turn propel the projectile.

@Wwillswords Жыл бұрын
@@nvfury13thats a plasma weapon..... not a rail gun as it wouldn't use rails to accelerate the plasma like a proper rail gun maybe a coil gun could do both?
@allster0crowly Жыл бұрын
@@Wwillswords it is possible for a railgun to shoot both energy or solid projectiles in the case of how it is described and a cooling period it is likely a particle based railgun meaning it gathers matter and fires it at a superfast and superheated rate, this type of gun while within the scope of railgun is more along the lines of a energy cannon but because it uses matter or anti matter and condenses it before firing and needs to cool down before firing again it can be classified as a railgun.

It's kinda funny because 'herbivore' and 'carnivore' aren't absolutes, they're generalizations on a species *preferred* diet. Many "herbivores" eat meat and vice versa. Everything is an omnivore, if hungry enough. I find it hard to believe there's hundreds of space faring species that are all strictly herbivorous, what was their evolutionary pressure to develop the intelligence to reach ftl travel?

The story telling and structure is fantastic, I reach the end of each chapter chomping at the bit to find out what will happen next. That said, I do find the foundational precept that herbivores would be more pacifistic and collaborative than carnivores lacking and ironically anthropomorphizing. Hippos and cape buffalo are some of the most dangerous animals on the planet, and a number of carnivores have shown interspecies cooperation. I'm thinking specifically of crows and wolves, as well as coyotes and badgers. Still, as far as a narrative, top notch.
@JohnDoe-yk3ji Жыл бұрын
My head Canon for stories like this one specifically is that omnivores are rare but since they happen to exist on our planet, there is blurring of rules that other planets evolutionary psychologists have made. And that our assumption that the lines are blurred is an Earth bias, not a Human bias. Like if in 10k planets, there are only herbivores and carnivores, and only 1 in 10k picks up omnivorous mutations and then those lead to sentience down the line, then I can understand it. I personally think that it's probably gonna be super common for the dominant species to be omnivorous, and have some kind of predator and prey duality in their evolutionary history. Just because I think that having an omnivorous digestive system increases the caloric intake available for mutations favoring intelligence.

Honestly, if I were in this world I'd probably ask for a list of all the Arxur genocides and get them all tattooed on my skin. After all, I don't have money to build a monument, I can't volunteer anyone else's land or money to build one, I have only myself, so my own body would have to make do. If I was capable of fighting I think I'd volunteer for it too. It would be very fitting for someone who's a walking memorial to their victims to be killing the Arxur.

As somebody with a background in biology, I feel like there's some pretty big misconceptions here. There are plenty of herbivore species with binocular vision. This actually has more to do with the environment then just feeding behavior. Second, the fact that no planet has a concept of social carnivores I find difficult to believe. If you have animals that form herds, social instinct exists and will be adapted by predators. I get with the author is going for but it seems like none of the alien races have any concept of even a basic understanding of ecology.

Its hard for a bro to have a chance to be sad around other dudes, yeah. The hold-it-in mentality is constantly reinforced by the world as a whole. Showing emotions, they say they want them to be shown, that its ok, but that's always a lie. You can see it in their eyes after or even during that vulnerability... their opinion definitly goes down after that. No one is ever honest least of all with their feelings and sadly that won't change any time soon. Moment of super real problems aside; I love this story!

The human I talked to was named Buck. He said he was from a continent called "America", in the northern part. He talked at great length about something called a Constitution and Inaliable Rights. "Man I tell ya. I saw that footage! Scary stuff. I seen videos on the internet talking about this day comin. Heck, all God fearing creatures just wanna be left alone, free from Tyranny of Predators." For the most part, he was a fairly good natured person.. For a predator. He seemed very concerned about something called the ATF and IRS. I wasn't sure what those were, but the way he spoke about them was as if they were even more predatory than he was. "You tell me how Tia right a man can't defend himself and his property in the way he sees fit. Taxes is nothin but theft, I tell ya! Here we are going to space to help you God fearing people out, but here at home I can't have a barrel under 9 inches on a rifle less I wanna risk my life! You tell ME how it's just TAXES if theys can send Po Lease to my property to arrest me for keeping ALL the results of the sweat of my labor." It was strange, but after a while, I saw myself agreeing with him. Though I didn't understand wholey what he was talking about, I felt myself pulled to agree with his sentiment. Aren't we ALL entitled to the results of our labor? Why should anyone be penalized for how they choose to protect themselves? We ourselves had almost annihilated his world because we felt a threat from them. "Its a shame you're all vegans up there. We got some good barbecue down here, I know for sure you'd enjoy it. I wouldn't want to offend, though, or make you go against your beliefs. Time was in this country people respected people, like the Lord said to do, and let live and all that. But I'm sure we could find someone knows how to make some good tofu. You seem like good people, we definitely need to go rafting down the crick, maybe shootin" Then suddenly he stopped replying. I read about a month later he had been arrest by someone called the Dee Eee Aye? Something about a common recreational drug called Mheth. It seems on his world there's always a bigger predator.. And I decided to spread his message about America and the Constitution on the Internet, to see how my people felt about it.
