At the Aircraft Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Aspen announced a new low-priced EFI, the E5. It's based on the company's Evolution series PFD, but it's non-certified and can be paired with TruTrak's new non-certified autopilot.

Looks like a great system. I’m so glad that the FAA has allowed technology like this to be deployed and light aircraft

That guy has mastered the fine art of saying absolutely nothing in as many words as possible. Except, everyone can see it.

I have an EDF1000 on my plane, with the basic setup and it works fine. ...but actually, I'm planning to downgrade it to mechanical instruments or just leave it covered with the checklist. Happens that the backup battery is out of date and there is no available spare on the market. the only option is sent the instrument to factory to install a new battery. (and for sure, being outside USA, it will cost half of the instrument value) then... I have a cute "INOPERATIVE" label on the EDF screen.

Wow. No details. Screen resolution, frames per second, viewing angles, feature list, autopilot compatibility etc. This is as little info as possible.

Yes but garmin won't put certain aircraft on there AML, we have 5 airplanes"medium/heavy twins" that we were looking to put in the G5 as a standby, not on the AML so no go

You said how much the interface box is ($49), but how much is the product you are showing us?

"A class of aircraft that are on the lower end." Did anyone else find that condescending?

I kept skipping ahead saying “HOW MUCH?” So if he means the thing cosots $5k that is competitive with a pair of G5s.

If its non certified, how is it legal to fly with? I am thinking of upgrading my 1973 bonanza to some glass. Will this work with my original auto pilot? I also have to get ads b compliant. I am kind of confused by all the new stuff coming out and what it will actually do as far as compliance. If I did add a g5 or this aspen, I would probably keep my vacuum attitude indicator in place of my turn coordinator, giving me three levels of redundancy, as I already have a small electric attitude indicator.

Too much cash. Garmin already does this with their G5, for half the price. Don't forget Dynon as well, they probably have the most options in this fledgling field and they are doing it for very little(relatively speaking, this is Aviation of course...)cash. Aspen is l;ate to the game with too little product.

This is the equivalent of two G5's and is priced comparably. Not saying it's better or worse, but to have the same real estate and features displayed at the same time, you'd need 2 Garmin units.
