If you want the same sound thickness with updated software go with a pioneer toriaz. It's no longer supported but it has more features and the same sound engine as the ASR. It's cheap and powerful. The old MPCs are so slow and antiquated. Go with the ASR over the mpc. But I would go with either a pioneer toriaz because it has Dave Smith filters which sound incredible or an isla sp2400. Or you can get the reissue of the sp1200. ASRs are old and need alot of maintenance. It's literally a 20 year old machine. The sp1200 reissue has the best sounding engine. But for high quality sound the pioneer toriaz is untouchable because dave Smith designed the output filters. ASR is dope but expect repairs. It also doesn't have a USB or any new interface. You can get one added but it's still hard to move sound back and forth from your daw. There are too many new Machines with incredible sound to go back to 20 year old machines.

ASR-10 all day, every dam day, and twice on a Sunday! (Not that the 4000 isn't dope, but come on man, the ASR is top 3, SP1200, MPC 3000, ASR-10, absolute God tier)

I definitely love the Asr 10 it’s the sequencer for me that could be better. Always used Mpc’s and am used to their sequencers.

@FaTTrAk Double the bpm to make the ASR seq loop tighter so it don't glitch on the loop around, this also gives more possible quantize positions to get a loose feel, also use the fact you can rechop for free ram to chop different spaces before 2 versions of a drum hit for swing on the 2nd looser copy. Or play the second hit on the swing in live no quantize after quantifying the 1st ones. Or use the 1/16 Triplet trick (this goes as far back as the SP1200). I know you'll probably still use the MP and it is an amazing sequencer, just dropping this here incase some kid in the future gets their hands on only an ASR-10 an has no bread for an external sequencer and keeps reading the sequencer is trash, I'm not saying it's amazing but it is 100% useable (if you have no other option) with some trail, error, hard work. It's possible to make it work. PEACE!

Used both in the beat process Asr for samples and chops and the 4k for sequencing. They both are dope and different for sure. Together the sound is amazing

I’m with you on the mpc however still like chopping on the Asr 10 and it’s sound quality. The sequencer is hella different for me. I may need 10,000 more hours to master that. For now the mpc has the best sequencer
